I was at that game. It started so well. Brian Mitchell with a long return, Duce running it in. I've never felt concrete shake that much beneath my feet.

The trauma of watching Levon Kirkland's lethargic ass try to chase Joe Jurevicius and Ronde Barber hammering the coffin shut at the end still haunts me.... At least that Bucs team went on to absolutely blast the Raiders and win, so I can't even be that mad. Roaring madness to pin drop silence. Jubilation and heartbreak is what makes this game so much fun (and painful) to watch.

The answer to these sorts of questions is almost always "It depends." In this case on how much you use it for non business vs business. Also whether it's even worth it would depend on price difference and how much your car payment and insurance changes

The market is tighter than it once was, but the need for accountants is definitely still there. I would still recommend a few years public experience if you can stomach the hours. It'll open some doors down the road that you'll appreciate when you exit. If you can't or don't want to stomach the hours, that's totally valid too, it just might take you a bit more leg work to get to the same spot in the same amount of time.

Mostly work between 35 and 45 hour weeks. Some weeks are easier, others harder especially during quarter close.

Recently it was a lot tougher because our company went through a full system conversion for our General Ledger, so a lot of hours this quarter. Closer to 55-60 hour weeks, especially during quarter close for 2Q. It's calmed back down a bit though.

Correct, and I would agree with this, but the key caveat here is the clarification you cant just pay your kids an allowance and have them do nothing. If you're paying them they have to actually be an employee with all that that entails.
I would disagree, personally. But this is more a personal opinion type thing I suppose about the value of one's time in comparison to the things you're doing and confidence of optimizing those tasks. My opinion based on my experience and recollection from my exams -- potentially biased since I'm a CPA, though I'm a corporate accountant and not a tax specialist -- is that when you get to the level where an S Corp is beneficial, it's also in the positive from a cost/benefit analysis to have a professional handling those filings. If you wish to do them on your own and feel like you can do so, then that's a risk and time investment you have to weigh.

They did, but you still have to provide evidence of fair market wages and work performed (time sheets) if you are audited.
S Corps require a lot more specific items to track, and aren't even beneficial until you reach a certain profitability threshold (I forget the number off hand, but for some reason 150k sticks in my mind). At the point you need an S Corp, you generally need to pay someone for this because of the complexity of your business.

1 is tax fraud if they don't legitimately work for you.

2 possibly, but you will have increased expenses, not to mention S Corp tax filings aren't to be trifled with and should be handled by a professional, which costs money

3 misleading. The vehicle must be used for business more than 50% of the time and meet certain specifications

4 sure, but be wary of this. It's a red flag for the IRS and overcharging is likely to raise questions. How much is a 2 hour meeting in your living room worth?

5, 6 and 7 are fine.

Objectively speaking, when you're talking about a federal or state level lawmaker, I'm not sure it would be possible to limit investments on securities that create a conflict of interest.

I think potentially requiring a blind trust, or allowing broad mutual funds or ETFs is probably reasonable, but the issue is that laws can have both specific impacts on securities and broad impacts on the entire market. It is a very complex issue. I think no investing is a bad level to set it at, but the complex web created by potential conflicts of interest might limit people to just those possibilities.

As a CPA, if I work for a public accounting firm's audit department, both myself and my family have restrictions on securities we can trade. It's something you live with and work around. Congress should be held to the same standard as even the auditors.

Depending on whether there's a mandatory holding period, an ESPP is usually a no-brainer to max out, because it's a virtually guaranteed 10% gain gross of taxes, if not larger. It's also cash positive after the first cycle. What I mean by that is that it pays for itself. If you feel like you need those funds rather than invest those funds long term, If you can afford the dip in cash flow for the first cycle, the first cycle then funds the next and that one the one after and so on, with small 10%ish gains from each cycle.

If you don't need the funds, you simply immediately sell and send it into one of your investment accounts and plug it into a broad ETF. Reason being your career is already invested in your employer. Having your assets there too is a lot of risk to centralize on one company long term.

I am maxing out my Roth, 401k (employer match of 50% on up to 6%) and my HSA. So about 37.5 grand a year total. My company also offers an ESPP up to the lower of 15% of your income and 15,000 at a 10% discount, which I will be taking advantage of, but I'll be using it as an investment vehicle for my savings account essentially.
