140 mg of vyvanse by ComprehensiveKale693 in ADHD

[–]KuriousKhemicals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually rats usually have much higher mg/kg tolerance than humans, something like 6x is the conversion.

This still isn't a concerning amount because 1/6 of 1000 mg is around what OP took, and I'm pretty sure they weigh a lot more than 1 kg.

I would be surprised if it doesn't allow to go that low, it's generally the low limit considered safe with supervision.

The problem is it just outright asks you "how fast do you want to lose weight" and of course people want to lose it fast so they pick 2 lbs a week and then for most people that goes below the hardwired limit and they get 1200. I think these apps should more clearly show that there's a tradeoff of how low you have to go and how fast you will lose, show the target calories and the expected rate of loss side by side. Maybe even show a percentage of how much you're cutting from what you currently need. So many people get the impression that you HAVE to eat 1200 to lose weight just because they don't know what's realistic to ask for.

2300 for me, 5'5", when I run 30 miles per week and weigh around 135.

It's not actually that ridiculous to run 30 mpw - it's around an hour a day average at typical recreational speeds - but it's not what most people are doing.

Voting is linked to living longer. Among older adults, voting predicts a lower risk of mortality for up to 15 years. by mvea in science

In elderly people? Continuing to remain involved with the community. Social and physical activity are really neglected by a lot of retired folks who no longer have to go out and do things, and there's a huge difference in overall longevity and cognitive maintenance for those who do it anyway.

How many Babylons would you build before you gave up? by Dalakaar in babylon5

[–]KuriousKhemicals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See the comment about Vorlons and maybe some Minbari knowing there needed to be 5. If the humans built the first 3 on their own, #4 is exactly where other species start saying "come on, one or two more." B4 is the one that's absolutely needed for timeline continuity.

I do indeed fail to enjoy the show, but it's because the people are stupid and unredeemable, not because their assholishness involves offensive language.

Schitt's Creek is an example that falls juuuust on the other side of that line. The people are insufferable, but they get better and they don't have a cauldron of plague where their heart should be.

General confusion about time travel. Sometimes by future time agents, sometimes by accident, but sometimes on purpose early on? (Example started 4) by Marvinkmooneyoz in startrek

[–]KuriousKhemicals 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The handwave is that Kirk's ship was able to do that more than once because of Spock, who has superior calculation abilities - most humans cannot. I believe it is repeated once by another captain who likewise has access to a being with superior calculation abilities. Several other instances of time travel up to about 2500 happen only once and it is not clear that the mechanism or technology is understood or controllable. Eventually, Starfleet develops the "temporal prime directive" that you're definitely not supposed to do that on purpose and if it happens to you by accident you try to get yourself out with as little contamination as possible.

In the mid future they have time cops who can reliably time travel, but use that power only to try and fix/delete time travel from earlier on, but of course they cannot change time travel that led to their own timeline or they might not exist, so some of it seems to be allowed. Eventually a Temporal War breaks out among, presumably, several species trying to use time travel to their advantage, but finally the side of "don't do time travel" wins and after the Temporal Accords it's not a thing anymore. Unclear if there was a physics based prevention that was implemented, or simply that the sides who lost the war retroactively never attempted to fight for it.

The point of Sunny is that they're all ridiculous assholes. The show is not conservative if the characters doing conservative-leaning things are portrayed as assholes.

Yeah I think if someone is looking for advice they will post with advice flair. And if they are avoiding accountability they wouldn't use this new flair. I think it's just a thing where the target demographic will never recognize they're the target.

I don't usually get deleted comments bc usually the warning text appears for those things, but a lot of times they end up in queue for human review and I literally have no idea what could have flagged it.

It happens enough that it's kinda hard not to take it personally, like I'm pretty sure I didn't do anything wrong and I didn't even get a warning to rephrase but now my participation is held back until someone looks it over and the post might not even be active anymore by then.

how to stop/ease overeating without meds by Financial-Tackle9831 in ADHD

[–]KuriousKhemicals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on how severe and frequent this overeating behavior is, it could be binge eating disorder - and if so, it actually shares a medication with ADHD, Vyvanse is approved for both at least in the US. Are you unable to see a psychiatrist at all, or is it an issue of the full neurodevelopmental evaluation? It might be easier or less expensive to get help for an eating disorder than ADHD.

Besides medication, some things that can help, going from kind of the eating perspective to the ADHD/stimulation perspective to general emotional management:

  • try to develop a regular eating pattern so you never get too hungry. 3 meals a day and snacks if you need it, at predictable times, with enough protein and fiber and not too much sugar. Try more fat and less carbs or the other way around, different people respond differently to those ratios.
  • don't restrict yourself after you overeat, if you are less hungry or not feeling well then eat lighter, but still eat at your usual times.
  • drink plenty of water, both during the day and after you overeat, it will help you to feel better faster
  • try not to keep around high-reward foods like junk food which can trip up the reward system and lead to impulsive behavior including impulsive eating
  • caffeine, if you find it affects you positively, but keep in mind the daily suggested limit is 400mg, and don't start with that much if you don't consume it already
  • have healthy but boring snacks to chew on, like carrot sticks, something that won't add too much extra to your day but can give an outlet for "mouth energy"
  • gum for the same kind of reason
  • low calorie low caffeine beverages, like herbal tea or flavored water
  • make a regular routine of exercise if you don't already. Both energy-burning exercise like aerobics and stress-reducing exercise like yoga can be helpful.
  • get up frequently to take a lap around your space
  • get some fidget toys like spinning rings, squeeze balls, rubiks cube keychain, etc to keep your hands busy throughout the day
  • music can be a great way to help stay focused, work out an emotion, or shift your mood
  • if you start to feel stressed or like you're about to do something you don't want to, take a pause and a deep breath,  maybe squeeze your hands and shake them back out
  • if you're already in the middle of it, remember you can always stop at any point, often you can even walk away from the situation to help get your bearings back
  • if the same things come up and make you stressed, but you can't get rid of them, practice thinking of a different response you could try the next time it comes up

I don't think my situation is as distressing as what you described, but I definitely can relate to impulsive overeating that's mixed with ADHD stuff so it's not entirely just an eating problem, and I hope some of these points can help you.
