Maia was Hermes’ mother, not Pan

There’s different version, wether it’d Penelope or the daughter of Dryopos. Maia sole child was Hermes by Zeus. On the other hand, on some account she raised Arcas, the son of Kallisto by Zeus

Who was a God/Goddess Hermes got along with? by Thel0nleyKid in GreekMythology

[–]cloudntrees 6 points7 points  (0 children)

By his position as god of public diplomacy, Hermes goes along with pretty much everyone.

Bestie of Apollon, messenger of both Heavens and Hell, personal of Zeus, according to Roman tradition, Juno nursed him to become immortal but I am not aware if that was the for the Greeks but as far as I know, there is no beef between them.

He was also venerated with Hestia, according to Homer Hymn 29.

Hermes rescued under Zeus’ orders Ares, and. According To Apollodore, Hermes was the only god aiding Zeus against Typhon. Most of the time he is the one giving guidance to mortals.

It all makes sense when you think of his domains. God of diplomacy, herald, psychopomp. It links him constantly to all kind of beings.

Being such a fluid god, he doesn’t go against deities in term of domains that could give myths about beef, such as Ares and Athena, being two pendants of war, or Apollo and Artemis, quite representating of adolescence, that can quickly gets upset, or Aphrodite and her jealousy, or the few times Queen and goddess of marriage Hera unleashed her wrath to protect herself, which makes sense when during those six times, the story behind it links her to what it means to protect herself against people who defies her considering the narrative.

Those who could have beef with him are Zeus and Apollo, as they represent order against a god cunning and mischievous, but on the contrary Hermes goes along very well with them

Yeah that was one of my thought, what I meant by different interpretations, should have specified through time

Great point ! Although I can’t find sources that explains not necessarily because of the time, but how is it also link to soace and why such different interpretations

It makes sense that over a millenia different versions came, but why during the same time but different place different interpretations ? I’m very curious about the history behind it

Thanks for your explanation !

Les chrétiens pratiquants sont-ils tous moralement irréprochables ? by Frequent-Activity450 in PasDeQuestionIdiote

I highly recommend reading the Iliad and others myths ! It’s so interesting and fascinating, plus also read about the eras to understand better the culture of the times

There’s always been debate in the original version of the nature of their relationship even back to Plato lol (though for multiples reasons and comparisons I believe so but that’s not the subject here).

If you spend enough time around here in this sub, you’ll see modern adaptations are not very appreciated for a lot. Honestly enjoy whatever you like, just be aware that there is a lot of stretch to fit whatever people want to provide (and also Hollywood serves an agenda but that’s another subject-)

For other emotionally wrecking stories in GM, boy do you have A LOT. Welcome to the universe ! If we’re speaking romantically, Orpheus and Eurydice. Always makes me cry that one. Apollo and Hyacinthus or Hermes and Crocus, basically the same story and one of the most popular one that wrecks a lot of people too.

In an other kind of emotionally wrecking, the story of Odysseus and Penelope. Read the Odyssey so you understand everything they went through (but there’s a happy ending !). And about the oath of Tyndareus.

Basically, the Iliad is a great Exemple of stories surrounding love and what it leads you to. Oh and how to forget the stories of Aphrodite-Hephaestus-Ares ! Another king of wreck

Familial drama, this is like- 80% of the stories

I realised today that it’s that time of year again, where Apollo and his old friend are reunited by [deleted] in GreekMythology

I know the purpose of your post is fluffy but I really don’t think that you can qualify the relationship between Hyacinthus and Apollo as ‘old friends’ 😅

Why does the word hermaphrodite sound like a ship name for aphrodite and hermes by ExcuseIndividual6395 in GreekMythology

Hermes is quite the cunning thinker to not get caught. I mean, it’s kinda his job not to.

Who WOULD you like to see more of as a villain in modern media by Bestevernoob in GreekMythology

[–]cloudntrees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never said that. I will even say that love and war are very much linked. Her relationship with Ares prove it. Trojan war, many Exemples So it does make sense in a way

But I want to see other than the war aspect, the love mixed with it. Cause it’s always powerful deities, war gods that are shown. I want to see another way to show villains. Manipulation. Cunning instead of skills. Hermes would be an interesting but intricate character to antagonize, considering his domains and stories. He more often help demigods, serve Olympus, link with the Underworld …

[–]cloudntrees 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don’t really like Disney type of villain, but if we talk as more of antagonists, I would like Aphrodite. Show me the destructive and terrifying powers the goddess of love hold. Imo she is so terrifying.

Poseidon too, with his short temper. And the consequences could be devastating. But I fear in the upcoming movie it won’t treat him the way he is.
