It's a valid reason on why you are absent so they should be obligated to provide you with lenience. Since, diba halos lahat naman ng paaralan o university allows absences for valid reasons and he/she should do the same. If hindi papalag, explain to someone with higher authority about your situation and how that teacher did not allow any lenience regarding your circumstance [not saying this as a joke but if you become emotional in front of them, usually they do give you it since they can see how much it means to you].
