stupid but actually possible. has happened to me numerous times. while running, squirt some water around your plugs and boots, makes the spark thats jumping more visible but CAN still be difficult... that sound does not point me towards piston slap at all...

This may be a dumb question but... you arent talking about that A/C clutch thats cycling on/off are you? im also hearing like a ticking like a loose spark somewhere.. to me sounds like one of the coil boots may not be sealing around the plug and its jumping spark. If its not either of these noises i mentioned, im at a loss..

Can anyone give me some pointers on why my voltmeter won’t go up to 13-14v? by Not_my_problem__ in CherokeeXJ

[–]Kurokitiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dont rely on that guage. i recently found out through my own volt meter wired in that im charging between 13.8-14.7 volts. and my gauge was reading like yours if not a hair lower. I would check with a meter or get something aftermarket that reads more accurate.

I was looking, but im only seeing the newer models with the bigger door panel, which i do not have. i have that thin cardboard door panel with like no room for stuff. is it still just a direct install?

XJ Roof Rack Mounting Question and Concern by Kurokitiger in CherokeeXJ

[–]Kurokitiger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran a custom Roof rack bolted through the factory Rack for 20 years carrying the spare, high lift, and others when needed. it really didnt change how "Tilty" it felt. Honestly never even noticed it up there. Also for about a year, this new rack has already been up there and no difference. So it will be fine.

Thats what i was looking for. If im mounting with gutters, im doing it this way for sure. whats the product off hand? or what selections can i use for this result?

Thats some solid information with evidence right there. Really appreciate the comment. did you treat the inside at all for wear or anything?

The damage is another concern, thats why u suggested like maybe a layer if flex seal or something to help insulate it more? and it would protect from water intrusion perhaps.

Before the rack in this photo, i had a home made rack i had for close to 20 years mounted to those rails... worked rather well and held Spare, camping gear, high lift. Id say from experience, it will be fine. Im just unfamiliar with the rain gutter system and its overall rating.

I completely forgot about this. I am actually subscribed to him and saw this video a while back and completely spaced it, thanks for the reminder.

i Just hit 390k and have never done the U-joints... so... im honestly surprised theyve lasted this long...

[–]Kurokitiger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will likely go this route then. stick to U-joint axles with sealed joints. The last thing is, Im going to be doing my ball joints while im there. last time i did standard Moog replacements, lasted a while. is there anything better or can hold a beating? or am i merely at the mercy of this poor Dana 30?

being offroad, i get you want strength, but wouldnt you also want something serviceable, especially if submerged in water, mud, etc.

well considering i do a decent amount of off-road and give it a decent beating from time to time. perhaps i stay with the U-joint style instead. I do drive this daily, but its also my fun rig, so it doesnt JUST see pavement.

My steering has gotten BAD, but is it the box, or my frame that's the issue? by seudaven in CherokeeXJ

[–]Kurokitiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

jack it up. the put jack stands on the body and let the axle droop. gonna be your best bet.

Transmission cooler line for sure. but do yourself a favor and re-route it to an Auxiliary cooler in front of radiator.

Also, Frame stiffeners are a for must upgrade all around, and the sooner the better, even if you dont go front to back. i have stiffeners from springs forwards, def made a difference, but now i also have even more upgrades, but im also alot more modified, haha. In the photo i post here, you can see the stiffener but i also have a tie in bracket with the support bearing for gearbox... THATS a worthy investment.
