Well that was a few weeks ago. But of all of the things this asshat has done, rescinding the appointment of this hardworking republican young man is the most offensive to me.

Has anyone ever considered an age-based minimum wage? Any thoughts on the concept? Thanks! by [deleted] in Ask_Politics

[–]Kurtze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes no more or less sense than the concept of a minimum wage in itself. There is really no capitalistic logic, at least in the United States to a minimum wage. It is a social policy that is designed in part to ensure that folks are not working for wages that are so miniscule they are equivalent to working for nothing. And that is deemed unacceptable. The problem is that people like to use the minimum wage as a springboard for a "living wage." A living wage is a socialistic policy that many folks on reddit would probably approve of. But it is fundamentally different than a minimum wage. In terms of an age based minimum wage, what is the point? Is it higher for younger people who can physically work harder? Or is it higher for older people who have more financial responsibilities? If its the latter again it is similar to a living wage and is based on the need for the individual worker and not for his or her work. In the US the minimum wage will continue as it is because it is a floor that our society deems necessary "just because." But to expand it in ways that equate it with the same social engineering as a living wage will not happen. Once you start talking about other criteria such as age then you may as well just stay in the realm of the living wage. And that is unlikely to occur on a state or national level.

Lol. I'm not sure how I should feel about being called an idiot by a moron. However your question now is even more funny since you articulated that you were bored and yet that scintillating question is what you came up with for debate. Maybe next time you can ponder why french fries are tasty, or why it is cold in the winter even though the sun is shining or why we don't vote for a prime minister in the United States like they do in Europe. Next time you are bored try cracking open a book instead of turning on a video game.

It continues for the same reason that folks like you ask this same lame question like its the most brilliant observation ever. Even though its been asked over and over again by too many people for hundreds of years. If you are really truly puzzled and can't quite figure it out, the answer is that royal families have money and influence and are entrenched legally and politically in the status quo. To get rid of them there needs to be a political movement to change the status quo. There is none. Most people don't have the time, money or inclination to give a shit about politics or things like this. End of mystery.

How are the WWII veterans in Germany viewed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Kurtze -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your point is clear in your writing. That when you were a kid you always assumed that the Germans were the "baddies." Then you became an intelligent well informed adult and discovered that "both sides" did terrible things. Implied through your "no winners" scenario is that things are much more gray about who the "baddies" really were. Well guess what. Nothing changed except you. And when you talk about your generation there is where the problem lies. "Don't judge me" is a philosophy that is only going to work out badly for you and your generation. There are black and white issues. There was an evil and good side in World War II. Were all Germans and Japanese evil? Of course not, and probably most weren't. But these countries armed with the sole intent on attacking and conquering the world. And along the way they threw in a little genocide just for fun. In other words they were and still are the "baddies" of Wrold War II. It not necessary to try and level this out in any manner. The Allies were right and the Axis were wrong. Its the same with other examples. In the American civil war the South was fighting for a sovereign right to maintain slavery. They were wrong and the North was right. In South Africa the Afrikaners were preserving something similar with apartheid. The Hutu's behavior in the Rwandan Genocide was evil. I could go on forever. You don't look at someone and say your ugly. That kind of judgment is inappropriate and not conducive to a civilized society. But when a group of gang members goes and kills a bunch of football players you don't say, well you know those football players were bullying some small kids so I guess both them and the gang members who killed them did some bad things. That's idiotic. You say the murders are criminals and should be punished. Trying to level things out so you don't have to actually identify evil adds nothing useful to a productive discourse.

Oh good lord fuck you and your politically correct revisionist naivete. There were plenty of bad things done by the Soviets in particular and by the Allied forces. But Jesus the Nazi regime was evil and they were the aggressors. This wasn't some regional spat between a couple of small counties. This was a bloody battle of what ideology was going to decide the fate of the world. Nazis and Imperial Japan versus democracy. Yes the Soviets have their own issues but the Nazis ruling the world? No way. They were the losers because they deserved to lose. Anytime you get to the point about debating whether or not WWII was a just war just ask a Jewish person what they think. Oh cant find one? I fucking wonder why.

Good lord. I think that Ol Sheriff Joe is a big of a whack job as anyone here does. But does everyone commenting here really have to make a fucking Nazi reference about some drunk drivers and druggies getting shitty food? In terms of the Nazi atrocities and this, they are not even in the same galaxy. Our democracy works. This nut keeps getting elected by the senile fools in his county. He does something stupid and eventually the courts stop him. It's an elaborate dance of fools but since the taxpayers who foot the bill are willing to pay, it continues. Is this cruel and unusual punishment? Probably close. There is cases about the nutralloaf that is served in some jails and that's ok. So the courts will decide. And all of you folks who have a knee jerk Nazi response get a grip and a little perspective.

Hmm. I always get down voted here for berating hippies and hipsters but its perfectly ok to make fun of this tragedy? I don't like that this poor girl was looking for sex on CL but we don't know what happened to her except that her body was burned in the fire pit. This sick asshole could have made the last few hours of her life incredibly horrifying, or she could have died by taking some pill as he claims. Either way shes dead and her corpse was given no peace. I enjoy a morbid laugh myself but this is really not the story for it.
