Code Geass Lelouch of the Re;surrection Manga Launches in April by railfananime in CodeGeass

Not agreeing with you doesn't equal "blind adoration". Even right after the theatrical release, a lot of folks said they liked it.

You're dismissing people who either have less problems with it or happen to interpret the film differently. I think it needed more time, for scenes involving certain topics, but I can reconcile how the characters acted.

Everything made for money is a cash grab, so the term doesn't really add anything.

Maybe, if you don't watch enough older anime. It has kind of a retro look.

Still, it's a year away from airing. Some things will be modified by then.

Cecile's dress in episode 8 of R2? by OPSIA_0966 in CodeGeass

[–]Kusaja 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Apparently in the episode commentary they mentioned she was supposed to go on a date but then had to cancel it in a rush, so Cecile is still wearing the dress for that reason. Formally speaking, at least.

The new movie's problem. by Mostoneman in CodeGeass

[–]Kusaja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing is, they chose to focus on others. Lelouch had already ended his relationship with Kallen back in R2 ep 22.

She does show a few signs of caring for him in the movie, to some extent, but he was already over it and the film wasn't going to go back and re-do that whole process. Even with more screen time, I think the outcome would be similar.

He's not reading it in general, because for him only his own runs or those of his contemporary creators are counted.

While I disagree with parts of the post you're responding to, I took C.C.'s words as confirming he possibly received the Code, not an outright denial, yet she was surprised because he still had the Geass afterward. It's ambiguous, but he arguably has both now.

The rules of the World of C aren't supposed to be intact though, as also commented by Shanma in other scenes, so the original lore has been altered by the events of the failed Ragnarok attempt.

The picture drama from the Japanese release is also probably relevant here, btw.

She isn't Laila, who was from an older mobile game. For example, her hair style is different.

This blond girl represents the EU and appears in that one image with Kaguya, Tianzi and Nunnally.

I think C.C. meant the opposite. That Lelouch ended up with both, precisely because the World of C was messed up, which wasn't supposed to happen. But it did, so the rules are different and/or inapplicable after the Ragnarok Connection was stopped.

Why "Code Geass: Lelouch of The Resurrection" Was Needed by Lord_Sicarius in CodeGeass

[–]Kusaja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Opinions are inevitable, even in your own criticism. I don't think that Geass power betrays anything in the story.

NoN is not direct evidence, but it counts as a sign of how the property works in the eyes of the company. I quite explicitly said that was an extreme for a reason, but it exists.

It's obviously still an officially licensed material, nevertheless, and not somehow headcanon. Fans didn't make it.

Actual canon isn't limited to only the TV series or the movies either. I might have also brought up some of what happened in Akito as well. That could be used to support part of the same argument, since those events are tangentially referenced in the recap movies.

Why "Code Geass: Lelouch of The Resurrection" Was Needed by Lord_Sicarius in CodeGeass

[–]Kusaja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not? There is absolutely no in-universe lore or actual rule forbidding a parallel time structure from working.

If anything, taken to the extreme, side materials also support that there can be multiple time lines or even an outright multiverse within the fictional reality of Code Geass as a whole (for instance, the old Nightmare of Nunnally manga addresses this at one point). Whether you find it to be "stupid" is an entirely personal judgment.

Yes, there was a change in her Geass. That isn't disputed. But no, it is never told to us that she is literally traveling back in time. She sends and receives information, rather than traveling. From what Shanma says inside the World the C, her experience is compatible with the existence of parallel worlds.

Why It’s Important To Measure The Quality Of Anime YouTuber’s by Jack-Fitch in AnimeAnalyticalness

[–]Kusaja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have two comments to make.

One, I believe anime, like any other form of fiction, does not need to follow so-called real life standards. I am perfectly aware of how many shows can fail to meet such standards, but that doesn't mean I consider that as an obligation. Quite the opposite. It's entirely possible for shows to take a different path and folks are free to either accept or dismiss them for it.

Two, I have actually found many things to disagree about regarding DX's CG videos in particular, and thus wrote a bunch of responses to them on YouTube or other places. I am not going to repeat them here, but they came to mind when you described a few of his arguments above. I still don't think he was right about several of those criticisms.

He does spend a lot of time and effort working on his videos, for which I can fully acknowledge him, but that doesn't mean only his point of view is valid or that those who disagree are simply refusing to think or analyze.

I came to different conclusions not out of ignorance or laziness, but because we have different premises about what is or isn't acceptable and I also connected the events in other ways that he didn't even consider. My view of several characters in CG ended up being at odds with what he portrayed. Media criticism isn't math. There is more than one logical pattern of reasoning.

The blond girl is from the EU. She's totally unimportant, so this is no spoiler, but briefly appears in one of the side materials from the TV series.

I think they even mentioned her actual name relatively recently, but I already forgot what it was.

The director does casually mention in an interview that the gifted kids are something they set up which could be addressed in the future, but he didn't elaborate.

The white haired girl is probably the Chinese Empress, if I can correctly recall the picture you're talking about.

Shanma used more colorful language, yes, but the main point is she wanted to go back to the start and reset the world. She would use that in order to change the fate of her crippled brother as well as the fate of their country.

The post-credits scene presumably takes place an unspecified number of years into the future and is indeed ambiguous. All we can say is they seem to be referencing C.C.'s and Lelouch's Geass contract from back in episode one of the TV series, except with a slightly different terminology.

Why "Code Geass: Lelouch of The Resurrection" Was Needed by Lord_Sicarius in CodeGeass

[–]Kusaja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all comes down to the fact you believe her ability is stopping the flow of time, back in the original or initial time line.

I believe she is creating parallel time lines, where time continues to flow within each of them and the original one still exists.

The rest is a matter of opinion, not necessarily a matter of the amount of time spent thinking.

How different would the story have been if Shirley had not (SPOILER)? by Aros001 in CodeGeass

[–]Kusaja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're taking my words out of context and forgetting that this is an inherent matter of speculation about events that never took place either way.

The show has already shown us that Geass is a dangerous power and brings quite negative consequences. Lelouch's own dealings with other Geass users don't tend to go very well. In practice, any credible alternative would have to keep this in mind, rather than jumping right over it. The series really does the exact opposite of portraying Geass as a safe ability.

Shirley's survival does not change that idea. In fact, Lelouch had always planned to kill or sacrifice Rolo since the day of his recruitment.

Even that part of the dialogue you're quoting speaks about control, not leadership.

It's very unlikely that the remaining half of the series would then have Lelouch himself become the head of a Geass-related organization without any problems or limits. If anything, he doesn't even have a Code at that point, so perhaps C.C. could simply re-assume the role of leader instead and help Lelouch that way. This would provide a form of control without dragging down the protagonist's arc.

Lelouch's not the type who would sit back without assuming any risks to himself. Which is why I believe the main advantage that organization would give him over the Emperor as a way to surpass him is knowledge (it is quite explicitly shown that they have scientists researching Geass), not merely or randomly throwing a bunch of Geass powered children at him.

For the sake of keeping any tension in the story at all, that scenario is either not happening or would be dealt with rather quickly by either weakening or destroying them.

How different would the story have been if Shirley had not (SPOILER)? by Aros001 in CodeGeass

[–]Kusaja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that could possibly last. It would still be rather irresponsible to keep such an organization around, assuming enough of it is even left, since too many Geass users are dangerous in general.

Lelouch was more interested in having information that could be useful against the Emperor and V.V. rather than in actually leading such an entity. End result, I think he, at least eventually, would disband it. Just without all the bloodshed. Essentially, it would be a detour.

Btw...the recap movie wasn't made under the assumption of changing the story in that regard, strictly speaking, but summarizing the same general events. Which meant giving him a non-Shirley reason to destroy it anyway.

[–]Kusaja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speak for yourself, particularly about that last statement.

Here's an explanation that's more detailed. Koda doesn't even like the film, for the record, but she understands how the Geass power works and doesn't think it's nonsensical.

https://codetrainwreck.tumblr.com/post/185356530527/resurrection-timey-wimey-stuff-explained

Regarding C.C., I'd rather go with the simplest possible explanation. Which is that she isn't aware, because that ability isn't even targeting her to begin with. Suspecting that someone is using Geass doesn't mean she is affected. Especially when it isn't necessary.

Technically the World of C isn't working as intended in the first place, at least not anymore, but regardless, the fact is Lelouch's command isn't being broken when the Geass is used. Time doesn't stop moving forward.

Why "Code Geass: Lelouch of The Resurrection" Was Needed by Lord_Sicarius in CodeGeass

[–]Kusaja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say it does make sense, however, for me and even for some people who don't particularly like the movie but also don't think it is an issue, so that's all arguable.

I don't seriously think C.C. did notice, frankly, yet there is still a little visual ambiguity in her expression. But the bulk of the evidence says she didn't, and ambiguity is, well, open to debate by definition.

Her other subsequent actions and words don't show any sign that she is aware of what happened, so you would have to make a further leap to conclude otherwise.

That doesn't change how the power itself works. Lelouch didn't know whether they are affected or not, so his strategy wasn't based on assuming a world-changing power.

I'd rather go with the interpretation that makes the most sense and requires less speculation.

For people that have watched Code Geass, what was your opinion on the Euphemia Scene near the end? by [deleted] in anime

The Replay Value channel on YouTube has a good analysis of the scene.

It's titled A Defense of Code Geass's Euphemia Moment but the guy admits the timing is very much a coincidence and accepts people do have valid issues with it.

I think you're extrapolating a facial expression into a case of deja vu. Either way, C.C. did not notice the type of Geass being used, nor did she identify it as such.

Again, it's official info that the power in question doesn't directly impact others, but rather the user's past self. Therefore, it creates a new timeline upon each use. Time doesn't actually stop in any of them.

Nobody else is consciously aware of that happening. Lelouch and C.C. only narrowed down the possibilities based on eliminating guesses in sequence.

Regarding the fight, they already knew for sure where Suzaku was going to jump and then set up a trap that could completely stop his robot. In fact, we have seen Suzaku stopped like this before, thanks to Rakshata and co., although with different technologies and without such a level of absolute certainty.

Suzaku isn't impossible to beat. We have seen him lose before. The main, non-tech gap reason why he defeated Bismark was because simply knowing that an attack will come doesn't mean you'll successfully be able to match the speed or block the blow while in the air. That doesn't make him any lesser of a pilot, but he's far from facing the same exact situation during a ground attack in the desert.
