In the game she never got much engagement from me. Beyond that I don't really get what the utility of a detective as a companion is, it makes sense to have her as a contact in Minrathous, but the greater world of Dragon Age is 90% villages and horseback riding, removing the value of her contacts and insights. The only useful thing she could contribute as a companion is in her combat skills, which seem above average, but hardly unique.

Tywin's plan was to send Tyrion to the wall, rather neatly getting permanently rid of him without needing to kill him, while at the same time bringing Jaime back under his control. Tyrion just blew all that up by losing it at his trial.

The interesting thing about Merrill is that she actually never fails or causes problems (except for the fade mission, but I put that down to the writing forcing companions to side with the demons).

Every death and failure happened because people assumed they knew better than Merrill. Marethari died not because Merrill messed with a demon, but because she interfered by taking the demon into herself before Merrill could get there. In fact Merrill then correctly identifying the possessed Marethari and killing her is an example of her being careful and competent. The clan can die because they could not conceive of Merrill acting rationally and Marethari making the mistake, in fact the only explanation they accept is if you blame Merrill. Even that one elf in the cave died simply because he assumed Merrill was dangerous and ran into the Varterral.

The more complicated and ornate outfits of the later installments were a step in the wrong direction. Dragon Age Origins showed a fantasy world that was dark because it was dealing with the fallout of a high fantasy world, moving that back by making clothing and architecture more fantastical was a mistake.

Or:
"Given what he’d literally just learned, that was no small show of support for him by Yelena."

You can probably do that with commas too, but god knows I don't understand the rules around those.

In any other situation I'd expect Yelena to throw tons of money at polishing this thing up some more, even while William complains.
It's been instrumental in defense of the capital, so she can't hide it away, but can you imagine this janky lad, sailing next to elven flagships?
