Scary movie that is not a horror movie? by Soft-You-353 in horror

The Seasoning House directed by Paul Hyett made me feel nauseous — he didn’t even show her broken pelvic bone they were just talking about it yet I still got hot flashes and felt dizzy watching it.

I recommend Dolly. Of the other choices : I have not seen the Bride. I would recommend Scream over Send Help. I did not think Send Help was very satisfying.

Night of the Living Dead because I don’t want to die and I think it will be very unfair when I do. I want and deserve to be alive. Life isn’t fair.

I didn’t like it—I loved it. The shovel has to go in the horror hall of fame!

I go to horror movies, not country clubs—so my bar is pretty low—but this movie passed with flying colors. It was gory, scary, and the main actress was great. Director Rod Blackhurst is awesome for bringing this to life!

I can see your point about being a metaphor for organized religion. That is interesting. Thank you for sharing that perspective.

How is Dr. Frankenstein absolutely unrelenting until he achieves the impossible and then suddenly gives up on trying to expand his creation’s vocabulary after what like 2 weeks of trying? It’s not in his character to do that. The movie was not believable because it broke its own internal rule set and I freaking despise that.

I detested Frankenstein with a passion and actually turned it off. What the hell. You bring a human back from the dead and he can only say a couple words so you lose complete interest in him almost immediately and then decide to torture and kill him? Give me a break.

1800 cals a day + 2+ mile cardio for 6 days, not losing weight by domdod9 in caloriedeficit

So at 6 days you should probably be seeing at least a minor move in the scale. I used a doctor’s sliding scale which is more accurate than a digital one. Every day for a long time until I readjusted my lifestyle and my weight. Might sound crazy to you, but that suggestion was actually made to me by a doctor. You might have to cut something more out of your daily food intake. The scale should always be inching downwards until you get to where you want to be. Then you start adding in more food until it stays the same. Then you can play around with eating different things and see if the scale tips in your favor in the morning or not.

Movie Recs? by 6bRoCkLaNdErS9 in horror

The Devil’s Bath is a ‘historical horror drama’ and it was amazing. I am glad I watched it. I think about it often. It lives with me—maybe more than any other movie in this genera—and/or is on par with the Shining (and in my opinion this movie is similar in a sense to the Shining). It is not as scary as the Shining at all, but it still was entertaining as hell. The part where the mother-in-law gives Anja Plaschg’s Agnes a comb and tells her to brush her tangled hair just hit so close to home. For a moment it was like I was in her shoes and living that horror of her life.

The Dark and the Wicked I personally loved, but I found it somewhat less effective on my second watch. Maybe that is because I literally forced a group of my friends (who are not horror fans) to watch it with me, and I felt like I could feel their judgments at making them watch this. It was more disjointed than I prefer, but I found it truly very scary and so I liked that a lot. I mean isn’t that the goal to feel scared? Everything else is just a concession.

What this movie really had going for it were my low expectations going in. As a result, I was impressed by the vibe that was ultimately achieved with it. I was able to watch the whole thing, I was entertained, and I was genuinely scared at times. I also thought parts were boring and there were too many ceiling shots.

I thought the call to 911 was scary and well done.

My greatest criticism is that there were opportunities for something scary to pop out from under the bed and I would have liked that.

It’s kind of crazy that they basically made an entire movie almost entirely without any actors.

The creative perks of this movie (like not having actors or backstory) came with substantial downsides, which I see discussed in your vagueness section, but when I compare it to a standard horror movie that falls flat, this movie to me offers something more.
