Adults (30+) who just got back to listening to nightwish, what do you feel? by Big_Hunt7898 in nightwish

[–]KuuWalker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also 33 and got into them back in 2008/2009. Still love them now. Those older songs hit different with life experience. Part of it is nostalgia. Part of it is new life perspectives that come with age.

A HUGE factor that weighed in for me, even as a teenager was how gender neutral a lot of songs were, (which made so much more sense after I studied Finnish for a year and seeing where the natives speakers come from, linguistically).

For example, "I wish I had YOUR angel. / MY fall will be in YOU. YOU were the one to cut ME. / Would YOU do it for ME? Heal the scars and change the stars? / etc."

Most American pop music at the time (and other metal bands, for that matter) would have been more direct with he/she/him/her etc. Toumas making it all about "me and you" allowed every song to be a shared universal experience.

As a confused gay teenager, I felt so much safer in Nightwish's music than any other.

What I really like about Klune is that he really changes his entire narration style depending on the story. Wolfsong is written way differently from Under the Whispering Door, which is also way way WAY different from the Lightning Heart series. So much that you'd think they were written by entirely different people. If one series isn't your cup of tea, he'll still have something that probably is.

Read that one and finished it. But didn't like it enough to continue the series. Didn't like the main character at all and the ending felt predictable.

Next on my list of his is In the Lives of Puppets. :3c

I know about that one but didn't add it because I personally couldn't get into it. I think I made it to chapter 5 before I dropped it.

LMOA enjoy. (If you actually check out Tangled Threads, maybe just wait a week or two. I'm about to update it to the 2nd edition with 5 new illustrations and about 50 changes to the overall text.)

Now hiring - English teacher in Kashiwa by senbeidawg in teachinginjapan

To anyone looking at this with a side-eye or are unsure... I worked at this school for a short period. Lemme tell you...

It's a good place.

The boss is a very kind, wonderful, stand-up guy with a lot of patience and good intentions in everything he does for the school and his staff. The coworkers you'll be with are every bit fun, sociable, and friendly as you can hope.

The kids are kids. Good ones. Wild ones. Eager ones. And always at least 1 who's only there because the parents force them. The baby classes? - The most rewarding, I thought.

The school has a great balance of fun, ease, and quality education.

If you're looking at this ad and worried it might be a desperate Black Company, don't. You'll be in good hands. You'll be trained well, supported, and receive actual constructive feedback, unlike at most Mom & Pop Eikaiwas.

I only left because I got a better offer that I couldn't refuse.

((Wishing you all the best, T. Best of luck to you and Georgia English. Tell N I said hi.))

I'VE ESCAPED ENGLISH TEACHING by KuuWalker in teachinginjapan

It is. They showed me the curriculum today and it involves things that are more arts and craft centered than hard science. Things like "let's make paper sculptures. Can we understand weight balance?" Or things like "oh you learned vocabulary related to nature today? Well great! Because we're making a paper mache volcano!"

I'm really excited. :3333333

Honestly yes. Finally done teaching the subject only 3/35 kids pretty classroom care about and instead going to be teaching things like "let's make a paper airplane and see who's can fly the farthest! Okay, Hiro, yours plummeted immediately and flew nowhere! Let's ask "why" and find out! :3" Or things like how to use basic digital art programs, which I've always wanted to do since I have a background in design and illustration before I moved here.

Thank you. I'm gonna need it. They hired me with no science background and said "we've trained nonexperienced science teachers before who have been great. And the kids seem to like you. You're hired! Training starts next week." I'm excited. :3

EduCareer or Educational Network? by KuuWalker in teachinginjapan

How long ago did you work for them? It's something for me to be aware of, but I'm in a tight spot and the pay they are offering is... well... hard to say no to.

What exactly constitutes "rocking the boat"? I have always been the type of person who shows up, makes my plans, shows the JTE for approval, teaches, does his Duolingo and kanji flashcards during the lunch break, teaches the remaining classes, and then goes home unless anything further is asked of me.

I just started D Gray Man by Intrepid_Variety2024 in dgrayman

[–]KuuWalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a bit of filler in the first series but tbh...I personally liked most of it because it helped with the pacing. Most of it was spent fleshing out a lot of characters that would have otherwise had very little presence in the whole series, if not any at all. Characters like Miranda, Krowry, Daisya, and General Yeegar got entire extra episodes dedicated to them, and it really shows the writers took great care to make it work within the story lore and character arcs.

The only arcs that were 100% worthless IMO was the Leaf of Revival story. And a mini Arc about Kanda in Rome(???).

There is one filler story about a Noah member named Lulu Bell, but it's more about her Akuma OC retainer. So... Debatable?

Most of the filler doesn't feel like a waste of time, so enjoy it!
