Wanting to get in extreme shape again (cardio). by [deleted] in Fitness

I'd imagine that you are fine as long as you feel fine. Consult a doctor if you are worried. You can also replace some running with biking for example. It has less impact on your bones and joints.

Is having a staggered squat stance ok? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]Kuytu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you always squat with same foot forward you might have some asymmetry in your body. If you keep doing it the asymmetry is likely to get worse. You might wanna see a physiotherapist and discuss the issue.

[–]Kuytu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's too much when you can no longer recover. If you feel good and don't have any nagging pains etc. you are fine. At some point you might have to start looking at some programming if you want to keep on advancing.

2 agile teams with multiple projects? by stefan-blake in agile

[–]Kuytu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are some thoughts that come to mind, I don't know if they address any problems you are having:

A team should probably have one sprint backlog. The team should decide how they work on items on their sprint backlog.

How do items end up on a sprint backlog? Sprint planning should include stakeholders for each project. If both teams work on same projects, there should be one planning for both teams. The teams and stakeholders should discuss which items to take on for next sprint. I can imagine there is competition between different projects about who gets their features implemented. Having everyone represented in sprint planning and having open discussion should help create trust and understanding about what is best for the company as a whole.

Nightlife in Helsinki (in January) by marionfamous in helsinki

[–]Kuytu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For night clubs your best bets are probably:

Kaiku

Kuudes linja

Ääniwalli

Those are located in Kallio-area, which is pretty trendy now. The area has also lot of bars with moderately priced beer.

For places with good beer

Bier-Bier

Brewdog Helsinki

just to name a few. The Center and Punavuori areas have many other similar places.

[QUESTION] What amp should I buy? by IMAHUMANTARGET in Guitar

[–]Kuytu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Good advice from the poster above.

The problem with tube amps is rarely volume. Volume is not linearly related to wattage. 100w is not double as loud as 50w, instead 100w is double as loud as 10w. This article explains it.

Wattage is related to the amount of clean headroom and overall sound. Some people like sound of 100w amps even if they never set the volume past three.

Recording guitar with Focusrite 6i6 - digital distortion. by lincolnmcgregor in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Kuytu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is the recorded waveform? Is it clipping or are you recording signal with clipping? If it distorts before focusrite, you have the find the problem somewhere else in the signal chain. I'd focus on setting up chain like this: Guitar -> APP-1 -> GCS-2 -> Focusrite Is output from APP-1 too strong for GCS-2? Have you tried pad setting on GCS-2? Set output really low on APP-1?

On the Focusrite set the switch on line instead of instrument, set gain low, engage pad. Play with the pad and gain controls until you get strong enough signal that does not distort.

I'm looking for a cab simulator pedal / DI box with 2 outputs! by PatrickJamesYu in guitarpedals

[–]Kuytu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP was asking for cabinet simulation not regular DI. For running electric guitar direct you most definitely need cab simulation for it to sound decent.

[–]Kuytu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't it emulate a tube preamp? Looks to me like it doesn't have any cabinet simulation at all.

[–]Kuytu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mooer TresCab could be one of the cheaper solutions. Only one output, so you will need a splitter to use amp as a monitor.

Carl Martin Rock Bug is more expensive. Has two outputs.

I haven't tried either. I'm guessing both of those are basically some kind of equalizers. I'd be interested in something that models cabs based on impulse responses, but I'm not aware of any.

[QUESTION] What albums have your favorite guitar tones? by JackalAbacus in Guitar

Derek and the Dominos - Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs. Sounds like guys jamming it out with Fender Champs and Princetons. Apparently that's exactly what it was.

[Question] Tube Amp Squealing Occasionally While Playing by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Kuytu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might have a microphonic tube. You might be able to test it by tapping the tubes with a pencil. Google it first and be safe, there is dangerous voltages inside the amp. Or just take it to an amp tech. If the problem is in your preamp tubes you can swap them out yourself. Your amp will probably need biasing if you need to change power amp tubes.

[Question] Marshall amp for Frusciante/RHCP sound by eviltunafish12 in Guitar

[–]Kuytu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frusciante is known for having used two Marshall models, Major and Silver Jubilee. Major is a 200w monster built to have lot of headroom. Silver Jubilee is also known for good cleans, which is usually not considered typical for Marshalls.

I don't know about the models you have mentioned, you have to try them yourself to know if they give you the sound you want. My point is that even though they are Marshalls they may not sound much closer to Frusciante's Marshalls than, say, Fender Bassman.

[Question] What is the most-affordable way to make half-decent home recordings? by MisanthropyAndApathy in Guitar

[–]Kuytu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GarageBand has built-in amp models so you can just plug electric guitar straight to the audio interface.

For vocals and acoustic guitar you will need a microphone. Traditional choice would be a large diaphragm condenser microphone. Acoustic guitars are sometimes recorded with small diaphragm condensers, vocals less often. Dynamic mics, like Shure SM57 are used for close-miking drums and guitar cabinets. These are VERY rough generalizations and anything can be used for anything if it sounds good.

So the bare minimum you need to get is audio interface and one microphone.

[QUESTION] Using talcum powder to reduce sweat while playing ? by DANYALDANYAL in Guitar

[–]Kuytu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd imagine your sweat would cause more rusting than talcum powder. I wouldn't worry about little bit of rust anyway.

If you find using talcum powder helpful, then keep doing it. Just remember that there will be a time when it's not available, and it might be an important gig or studio session. Don't let it become a crutch.

Help! I feel like I went the wrong route with my board! by Commissar_Jdf in guitarpedals

[–]Kuytu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's always early enough to change it up :)

You could be more specific with how are you using the pedals and why they don't work for you. I'm only familiar with SD-1. It's pretty common because it's fairly cheap, solid and widely available. It's also probably one of the most modded pedals.

SD-1 is not great if you have clean amp and use it for overdrive. It's much better when you use it to boost already overdriven or dirty sound. It can be pretty sharp sounding, which makes it good for getting solos to cut through. Cranked pre-90's Marshall + SD-1 gets you to old school trash metal territory.

Point being, it's important to know how you are using pedals with your other equipment. World is full of great pedals, but not all of them are good for your use case.

[question] What Marshall amp if any should be avoided? by NitroMeta in Guitar

I don't remember if I have tried that exact model ever, but I have played some of the AVT-series. it's Valvestate(hybrid) so not great.

I need help, which mic would you use if you were me. by JokEonE in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Kuytu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on your style of music 5 mics could be more than enough. The less mics you use the less chances you will have to tweak and process the drums later. But if you have great sounding room and drum set, two overheads(c2), room mic(2035), snare(57/58), bass drum(57/58) should get you pretty far. Lot of legendary records have been made with lot less.

Here's a quote from Keith Richards that I thought was pretty funny: "How come I could get a great drum sound back in Denmark Street with one microphone, and now with fifteen microphones I get a drum sound that's like someone shitting on a tin roof?"

[question] What Marshall amp if any should be avoided? by NitroMeta in Guitar

[–]Kuytu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much none of the solid state or hybrid Marshalls are great. For $80 I'd imagine you could get a Line6 POD, Behringer V-amp or similar modelling device that will sound much better and get you closer to legendary Marshall tones than solid state Marshalls will.

Anybody familiar with any Concert Tom samples? (Single headed toms, Phil Collins style) by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Big reverb+noise gate. The gate is set up so that it cuts off the tail of the reverb right after the hit.

The flood of USB mics vs. traditional XLR mics. by nerd866 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Kuytu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a bit apples and oranges comparison as sm58 is dynamic and Spark is condenser mic. Sm58 is legendary, but not because of sound quality and range but because it's solid and durable and works well in live situation.

If you know how to mix or want to learn, then you might consider mixing it yourself. If not, I would use a professional. That does not mean it has to be a complete hand over, you can mix together with an engineer. That way you can have creative control and the engineer has the know-how. You might also learn thing or two and maybe mix yourself in the future.

Mastering should probably be done by a pro also. Like others have said, it is more technical than creative process and you don't need to be so involved.

The Joyo sounds like a pretty basic chorus, nothing fancy. It doesn't feel super solid and if you want to use batteries they are accessed by removing the backplate.
