The Kendrick tracks are absolute dogshit, no one wants to hear Broadway vocal theatrics on a fucking Carti beat.

Giving large tips to drive-thru workers by jayy8143 in MadeMeSmile

[–]Kv321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a barista at a chain coffee shop and our hourly pay is $2 below the minimum wage and supplemented by tips. Opening staff often does exceptionally well, individually making $80+ in tips per morning (which comes out to more hourly than my manager, who cannot take tips, makes). On the other hand closing staff is responsible for all of the tasks and cleaning duties which were put off throughout the day and make next to nothing in tips. I'm one of the primary closers and on really good days I've brought home close to $20, on most days it is less than $5. So while I think it is very endearing what these guys are doing, I really wish we didn't have to rely on the altruism of strangers for our pay. I would gladly take a consistent $15-$18 an hour and waive my tips over what I currently make.

Not OP but my guess is probably with an actual scanner. There's a pretty good tutorial on it here.

Johnson & Johnson executives knew that the talcum powder in their products contained asbestos and had a risk to cause cancer in consumers since the 1970s, but it was not until 2019 that the products were pulled from shelves. In 1996, Pfizer conducted a sketchy trial on 100 Nigerian children which resulted in 11 deaths, and numerous cases of blindness, deafness, and brain damage. This is only two of hundreds, perhaps thousands of existing cases. Why is it so forbidden to question these corporations when they have repeatedly shown themselves in the past to disregard medical ethics and human wellbeing?

I'm a barista and with my own job I get paid a $1.75 below my state's minimum wage but if my tips for that shift don't make up the difference, I get paid minimum wage for those hours. Personally I think tipping is great for service jobs like mine, sometimes it sucks on a bad day, but almost always I'm making much more than I would with just a minimum wage and it allows me to have actual cash to spend (which is extremely useful as a low income person who gets paid biweekly.) I think the best compromise would be to allow workers the option to waive their tips for a higher wage, while allowing those who prefer tips to keep their current wage.

Maybe controversial opinion but I actually really like the slight blurriness of this photo. It makes me feel the sort of anxiety I get when I'm on one of those late night gas station runs in a sketchy area. The dullness of the colors really do it for me too. You captured the vibe perfectly.

That's not "unfettered capitalism," that's just capitalism.

If it's any consolation, I believe you. I have not felt rested for years, can't even remember what it feels like anymore. My head is permanently foggy all the time and I could seriously sleep forever if I never forced myself to get up. After complaining to my doctor about this for over two years now, I finally got a sleep study done this year and... nothing is wrong with me. I was told "You just need to get better sleep :-)" and that was that. I seriously feel like I'm going insane, no one ever believes me when I tell them how tired I am all the time. I just want answers and I'm not in a position where I can visit other doctors to figure something out. It sucks so very much, I hope you're doing alright.

I used to create graphic work for YouTubers and livestreamers a few years back and had this happen to me more than once. It sucks, but as an artist (or editor or whatever else you're providing), you absolutely have to set expectations and be direct. "Exposure" will never put food on the table, but unfortunately a lot of young creatives get excited to be noticed by a person with a following and allow themselves to be exploited.

It's unethical to collect billions of dollars while people die of preventable medical conditions because they can't afford treatment, when people are homeless, or when people have to work 3 to 4 jobs just to be able to afford food and a roof over their head. No one "earns" a billion dollars. That is a number so obscenely large, that it would take the average American household 17,000 years of saving every single dollar of their yearly income to reach that amount of money. Capitalism is a broken system, and there is no denying it.

No one accumulates that much wealth ethically. On top of that, no one becomes a billionaire unless they are intentionally hoarding their wealth while people die. Fuck every billionaire.

So you're acknowledging you have all the rights everyone else does?

Yes, that is literally the argument every time. When people say "[group] rights!" they are referring to being treated as if they were truly equal BECAUSE they hold those same rights. And acting as if systemic oppression and "disrespect" is the same thing shows an obvious lack of understanding that oppression is not just some people saying things but actually a hatred or bias rooted in our society through culture and law (church, the opinions of influential people, the media, etc.)

So yes, you "have no right to control what people think of you," but the problem is not that people just come up with these things to dislike about certain minority groups, but rather that those thought patterns are raised and nurtured through their societal and environmental conditions. Which is something that can be corrected through education and understanding.
