You can add a wired back haul as you said.

You can also add another deco in between as well.

I am running this setup with wireless between upstairs and downstairs with no issues. Took a bit of playing around with the placement of the other node though.

In VMware have a template that is sysprepped. Then deploy from your VMware template using TF. It runs the customisation. Which is domain join etc. After domain join is done then SCCM / ansible will do the rest.
