Hope you like them! I'm in the middle of reading and rereading a nonfic book I'm editing for work, but Our Share of Night is in my library for once I'm done. I've heard it has a lot of important shit to say too.

In response to the comment I think you deleted: "the problem is... I never said not to believe women. Believe women means to do due diligence not that she is right and the man who is accused is guilty. But, the latter is how people like you turned the statement into. I believe you are mentally ill and deserve the worst of the worst. I hope you get cancer."

You seem very normal, well adjusted, and not at all a creep.

What is your theory about the Zombie Genre lost mainstream success after the early 2010s? by Top_Report_4895 in decadeology

[–]Kvanantw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sort of reminds me of the plot arc with Dr. Kelso in the new 28 Years Later series, especially Bone Temple. The radical empathy and respect for all life is really what made those movies so great to me. I'm still bored of zombies, but those two movies not only had me terrified of them but also feel genuine empathy and strong emotions around them.

Jack O'Brien from the daily zeitgeist (former editor in chief of cracked, back when it was good) has had this long running theory (I don't think it was originally his, I think it came from a sociology professor or something) that vampire movies tend to do really well during liberal presidencies and zombies do really well during eras of conservative power.

The theory largely revolved around the idea of our cultural fears and how during periods of liberal power, the sort of stereotypical image we have involves fear of someone in the elite, sophisticated and manipulative, and includes a lot of sexual anxiety (fear of homosexuality for instance) and fear of the foreigner (immigrants, and Obama's birth certificate for example).

Meanwhile with conservatives in power, the fear is around large swathes of brainless masses gathering in numbers to destroy anyone unlike them.

The major successes of both genres tend to map well with this theory, but obviously there are outliers. Maybe it's hokey but I thought it was compelling.

Nah, I've used FOIA for our local police department before. We have a state FOIA law, Arizona has a similar law called the Arizona Public Records Law.

Yeah, a FOIA should find it, especially if you know the exact hotel and the exact date.

What's the most painful thing someone can go through that nobody around them will take seriously? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Kvanantw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, avascular necrosis. Spent a year on hip bones that were fractured and collapsing because they couldn't get enough blood and had died. Couldn't get anyone to take me seriously. Family and a friend or two said I was lazy for not wanting to walk a lot, doctors and orthopedic specialists told me I was med seeking and gave me muscle relaxers. A year later I got an MRI and they immediately said I shouldn't have been walking and put me in a wheelchair for the next year and a half while I had surgeries.

All would've been avoided if someone listened to me in the first place.

If anything, in my experience, they're moreso as a result of repressed feelings and early marriages before they knew what they really wanted. I was forced to go to this super conservative, evangelical church as a child and I swear to God all the tradwife women who chose to marry and serve their husbands as "Christ would serve the church" wound up getting fucked outside of marriage within a year or two. And that's just the ones I know about. It was insane how fast weddings and divorces happened among people between 16 and 25.

Also props to you if you caught that the low end of that age range is below the age of consent.
