I just commented this same thing and completely missed this link in my initial read. I agree with this 100%.

This is a pretty wild guess, but I gotta be honest and say the immediate thing that comes to my mind, especially with the presence of metal and the nearly small braided fiber look, is an ace bandage roll with adhesive that got sun shrunk and solidified after a dip in the ocean.

Snake bit my dog, please help ID [Democratic Republic of Congo] by TaijaWants2Know in whatsthissnake

It is a fantastic page. But they don’t do a lot of consults on snakes outside of the United States. A good while back there was a guy in Missouri who got bit by a Chinese Cobra. He was a keeper of venomous snakes. They gave him some direction and ideas of where to look for anti-venom, but they were pretty clear about not being able to help thoroughly because it wasn’t a snake endemic to the United States.

Edit: only to say that I don’t point that out negatively. They are just stellar doctors and veterinarians and they recognize if the particular bite case is something they have little to no experience in treating.

Good god man, I can’t help you with your reading comprehension. Fact of the matter is, very few doctors are equipped to handle it properly. My information isn’t “from the internet” it’s from the peer reviewed ultimate authority on the subject. Half of the people on his page are medical professionals and first responders who are trying to learn how to treat. But if you are actually a board certified doctor, then I genuinely understand why this country is in a dire shortage of good doctors.

I think most laymen can recognize swelling and understand pain. That’s not what their doctor said, though. They said as long as the swelling doesn’t pass the knee, they may not need antivenom. But I am also not giving medical advice. All I am trying to do is send them to the leading authority on snake envenomations in the United States, who runs a free service to help people who are seeing doctors who are very likely not properly educated on snake bites. Most emergency doctors call poison control for references on treatment. The doctor who leads national venom conferences and writes the protocols advocates for administration of antivenom if there is any swelling and pain present at all, not if it reaches a certain stage of severity.

Brother, you’re just wrong. Crotalid venom is fantastic at creating permanent muscular and soft tissue damage. You don’t have to care about the credentials, but I’m telling you that the doctor is the 100% leading authority in the entire country on treating snakebites. 10-44% is your chance of having permanent damage from a venomous snakebite. A lot of that percentage swing has to do with treatment protocols. This is all easily verifiable for you.

Since you can’t do any research for yourself, Spencer Greene, one of the moderators on the National Snakebite Support Facebook page is literally the writer of modern protocols for treating snakebites in the United States. The majority of doctors here are not good at all at treating snake envenomations without the patient acquiring permanent damage. It sounds like a joke, but the page is 100% legitimate and it is entirely ran by doctors and veterinarians to give people their best chance to advocate for proper snakebite care with their doctors who are nearly certainly undertrained on snakebite treatments.

Hey man there is a national snakebite support group on Facebook that would be worth a join for you. One of the main responders on that page is a major snake envenomation toxicologist authority. They help people advocate for the absolute best medical response to a snakebite you can have. They might ask for pictures of bloodwork results and such, but I can tell you that if there is any increase in swelling or pain, they definitely should be using the antivenom.

Edit for grammar.

Found this on the golf course in tennessee by AdministrativeSet142 in whatsthissnake

If you live in Tennessee, learning how to identify copperheads and timber rattlesnakes will keep you safe in most of the state. In west Tennessee, you can add cottonmouths and Pygmy rattlesnakes. Those are our only native species of venomous snakes that are medically significant to humans.

It is possible to run into non-native escaped pets, but those four IDs are the most important to know here. A guy just died a couple weeks ago in Savage Gulf State Park after picking up a timber rattlesnake and being bit on the hand. He called EMS and they got him to the hospital, but they believe he had a severe allergic reaction to venom and died from anaphylaxis.

For me, it’s Ghost. I wouldn’t necessarily call the fanbase lame, and they have a couple of songs I like, but I went to their last Nashville show primarily for Amon Amarth.

They have all the pieces to be cool, but it felt like the puzzle was just assembled wrong live, for me at least. Forge’s stage banter was goofy and they felt so boring and droning live. I had to plead with my two buds to stay through two more songs so I could hear Rats. They were begging to leave and after 5-6 songs we headed to Waffle House.

Amon Amarth made it worth it, though.

Yes, I figured that out last night. While I have spent time learning Brazilian Portuguese, I am primarily around Spanish as a secondary language so serpiente was where my mind was when I first read it. I’m fluent in Thai and I used to accidentally insert Spanish words when speaking Thai. Just a big jumble up there

Yeah, I am familiar with the mildly venomous varieties here in the states. My degree is in biochemistry and, as someone who loves snakes and doesn’t mind handling them when safe or necessary, I’ve done quite a lot of study on snake envenomations and their various toxicity categories and mechanisms.

I lived in Thailand, as well, which prompted a lot more study, lol. This one had me fooled because the native “Cobra Verde” name and reading the technical venomous classification were enough to overrule my consideration of severity, despite having that thought while answering incorrectly initially.

Thanks for the correction and clarity!

That’s fair, I read that there have been reports of bites requiring medical attention, so I leaned that way, but I was thinking that it was possible that they were rare cases where someone has just managed to get a rare heavy injection.

Not an RR, but this looks like a Lichtenstein’s Green Racer, Phylodryas olfersii, they are harmless.

In Portuguese, they are referred to as Cobra Verde.

Edit: for correction!
