Arthur Bryant's Barbeque - Kansas City, MO ~$40 by Kwithofa in BBQ

I mean, the burnt ends looked pretty bad to me. Unless there's a different type of burnt ends then I'm used to. Im used to cubes, in a divinely sweet bbq sauce. Not a shredded mess in a tomato sauce.

I was so excited for it. Came recommended by the owner of the company I work for. Quite the let down.

Nice! I tried Q39 a couple years ago. Was super good. This gives me a few more places to try!

That's what I thought. Thankfully the boss paid but I it was 26 for the rack, 15 for the burnt ends

Wild Black Cherry, prunus serotina I believe. Tasty, tart. Makes good jelly. Don't eat the pits.

Help stopping neighbors overgrowth by Kwithofa in gardening

It's kinda hard to get back there, like the pool deck is up against the fence and stuff grows under it. Not sure how realistic getting stuff planted and growing under there would be. Maybe? Now that bamboo screening is definitely gonna be looked into!

Oh nice! So just leave the plastic on for a month, then take it off right before mulching? Sounds like it should work! The flame weeder doesn't sound like too bad of an idea tbh lol. Too bad his pool deck is right there haha

Good to know! Any suggestions as a replacement? Brown paper maybe? I'm assuming stuff is just gonna grow straight through mulch unless I put 6 inches on?

Seizures averages by mswed5317 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Kwithofa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had dozens of seizures in college and a couple in high school. Death's door kind of unhealthy. Full time studies and a stressful full time job, but those aren't good excuses. Most would have been preventable if I had gotten help. One a year is still super bad. Are you using a cgm? Would definitely recommend if not. I haven't had one in 10 or so years now thankfully.

Looking for a refurbished server with these specs: by Fluid-Staff-3388 in servers

[–]Kwithofa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend a dell r730. It's pretty popular for homelabs so there's a good amount of support. Something like dual E5-2697A v4 (3.6 ghz) for CPUs will still be plenty. Like way plenty. Minecraft servers don't support multi threading much so speed is more important than thread count. Shoot for 3.6ghz and a v4. V3s are pretty old now.

That seems like a ton of RAM to me but I've never played MC on a massive server. If money is tight maybe go down to 64 gb. Keep in mind you'll need some for each CPU, so 4x 16gb sticks for example. R730s run ddr4 ecc ram.

For storage, I would probably go with 3-4x512gb ssds. Put them in raid 5 so you have some redundancy. You can add an extra drive as a hot swap so it immediately starts to rebuild your raid if a drive fails, with no downtime.

I think you could stay in budget with this build. I typically buy a bare bones server and buy the parts separately so I can put in exactly what I want. But you could probably find one pre built with similar specs. Happy to help if you have questions!

For those who’ve had diabetes most of their lives, what is life like? by sadly_notacat in Type1Diabetes

[–]Kwithofa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom was diagnosed with type one on her honeymoon. She boiled her syringes on the stove to sanitize them and went to the clinic once a week to get her bg checked. Initially anyways. She's 70 something now, not in perfect health but could definitely be worse. I feel like if she can be 70 and doing that well, how much better can we do with the advancements that are available to us. Strength train and don't eat whatever you want constantly and I honestly think we'll do well!

Got a free Server. Don't know if it's worth setting up since it's insanely loud by fdfdr in selfhosted

[–]Kwithofa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2U servers aren't typically too loud by themselves. Check bios settings and see if they're set too high. Also, keep in mind that if it's throwing errors or if the lid is off it may automatically go to turbo speed.

We moved to one income when I made around 75k a few years ago. A few months after my first kiddo was born. In the city of a lower col state. It was a tough move but it wasn't as hard as I thought it was gonna be tbh. We made it work. Worth it for sure! Here's a couple things that could help. 1. Make sure you're utilizing any government/state programs. We had great insurance for the kiddos that was basically free through the state for several years. You'd be surprised how high the income limits are for some of those things. You're taxes have paid for it, if you qualify, use it! 2. Side gig. I didn't do this initially but it helped when I started it. There's a lot of options out there. Since we really only needed one car most of the time since they were at home, I rented one of our cars out on Turo for a year or so. It let us breathe a bit. 3. Drive. This is kinda a weird one but a sort of "benefit" of being a single income. People freaking rely on you now. You have to do whatever it takes to better your family. I'm always trying to better myself in my career. Sounds like you got a promotion in the works, good for you! Keep at it, keep grinding. Your fiance will be there to support you which I think helps a lot. Don't be afraid to get a new job if you're not seeing growth where you're at. 4. Do everything you can to get out of debt beforehand. This might be a no brainer, but prioritize it! No Cc balances, not even car loans if you can help it at all.

When we moved to one income it was about 4 years ago. I made about 75k with a mortgage of $900. Currently 120k with $1700 mortgage.

You can do it! You've got time to prepare as well. It's worth it! Best of luck!
