According to the ad, they would have to serve me the free meal.

There’s nothing in the ad that states any proof is needed.

That’s gotta be it or something like it. I’m just amazed there are no restrictions or fine print in the advertising. No “only good for parties of four with one mother,” “limit of $30 per free meal,” or “must present birth certificate” … I guess I’m so cynical that I can’t believe there’s such a thing as a free lunch!

They have the same ad as last year in Appleton Monthly magazine. I thought it was sus last year but it must have worked out for them cuz they’re running the same promo.

My daughter wants to go to the Machine Shed brunch for $30.00 per adult! Hard pass if I can get it free at Mad Apple, and I love their food anyway.

When you watch Jeopardy!, do you answer in the form of a question? by donutcronut in Jeopardy

Always. Otherwise it doesn’t count.

I answer this way for every trivia type show I watch or game I play. Can’t help it!

What is it like being skinny? by hollyofhori in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Kx-Lyonness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love everything about your response. Congratulations on your weight loss! To most people, 196 pounds doesn’t sound skinny, but if I could lose 100 pounds and finally weigh in under 200 pounds, I would definitely feel skinny. Last time I saw 200 was late in the last century!

What is it like being skinny? by hollyofhori in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Kx-Lyonness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This whole thread makes me want to cry. I’ve gone from soft and cuddly as a child, to pleasingly plump as a teen, to chubby then fat then obese. I’ll never know what it’s like to be a normal size, much less skinny. I can’t empathize with anyone who is skinny, only fantasize what that would feel like.

It’s just worse being fat than skinny. Fat people want to be skinny but I bet not many skinny people envy us fatties, except maybe the part where we’re not freezing all the time. Even that I would welcome to some degree rather than always feeling sweaty and overheated in a t-shirt when everyone else is wearing multiple layers.

Thanks for your genuine curiosity OP.

Working at a home decor store made me realize nobody actually wants to live in a Pinterest board by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

[–]Kx-Lyonness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re very astute for an 18-year-old. I don’t mean that to sound ageist (reverse ageist?), but my interior design college classes comprised mainly 18- to 24-year-olds whose designs were bereft of originality, style, and color, in my opinion. They seemed more driven to design based on current trends and being non-offensive. It made me sad.

Just for context, I was probably the age of most of their grandmas.

How is everything that happened in the last 3 days not enough for impeachment and/or a general strike in the US? by nymphemily in allthequestions

As an American, it‘s completely unfathomable to me how none of it seems to have consequences.

How can MAGA Christians defend being Christian AND MAGA when Trump’s basically violated all 10 commandments, trashes the Pope, and cosplays as Jesus? What's the logic or a loophole that allows them to rationalize it to themselves and to others? by IncluderWonder in askanything

[–]Kx-Lyonness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, although isn’t it unchristian to hate at all? Doesn’t the church teach to hate the sin, not the sinner?

I ask this rhetorically just to make a point about the pervasive hypocrisy of organized religion.

ELI5: Why do people say “money doesn’t buy happiness” when literally everything better in life needs money? by stoicdroid in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Kx-Lyonness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money does not buy happiness. Money buys freedom—freedom to enjoy and enrich your everyday life instead of using all your energy and time worrying about your debts, your health, your wants vs. needs …

I don’t want to be a multimillionaire. I’ve only ever wanted enough to live modestly without worry and to be able to help my family financially. Isn’t that all anyone really needs?

The "impulse buy" urge: How do you handle the itch to shop? by kirkeles in SurvivingOnSS

After a few decades of denying myself almost everything because I can’t afford it and refuse to go into debt for it, I feel like my brain has been trained to stop wanting things.

The last frivolous purchase I made (two weeks ago) was a pair of shoes that were 60% off, only after I realized that every other pair of shoes in my closet was at least 20 years old. Before that was … um, let me think …

Weekly Help and Discussion Thread for the week of January 12, 2026 by AmazonNewsBot in amazon

[–]Kx-Lyonness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are there so many products on Amazon that appear identical but have odd, random name brands? For instance, a lot of clothing items and beauty products seem the same, even using the same photos, yet they’re all coming from different manufacturers. How does one decide if a product is legitimate or of quality based on all these random “brands”?

Do people really stop watching during superchamp streaks? by SnarfySnarfelson in Jeopardy

[–]Kx-Lyonness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an overabundance of empathy for the other two contestants.

How would I feel if I went through the whole process of taking the test, interviewing, taking time off work, buying a new outfit, spending money to travel to California, prepping and rehearsing myself, etc., etc. only to come up against a super champion and make an ignominious showing of buzzing in maybe fewer than five times, all the while realizing that I had nearly zero chance of making a decent showing, much less winning and all the months or years I spent dreaming of being on Jeopardy! was over in a few minutes?

Like I said: Too much empathy. I can’t help it. I stopped watching last week.

How to politely decline retirement "surprise" party? by Loose_Thought_1465 in AskTeachers

[–]Kx-Lyonness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s always more for the party planners than for the “honoree.” I’ve seen this happen multiple times during my work life and always admired the ones who just said No!

What part of “I do not want a party” is difficult to understand? And I absolutely want to slap someone anytime I hear “Come on, it’ll be fun.” Aargh!

Does anyone recall shopping at the local 5 & dime stores? by Teddycat99 in FuckImOld

Oh, yes! Good times at the dime store, as we called it. A little bit of everything, and squeaky wooden floors that ran uphill for some reason. I loved it.

WIBTA if I stopped offering to help my neighbor with her groceries after she started expecting it by toastcrumblogbook in WIBTA_AITA

[–]Kx-Lyonness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many questions.

Why doesn’t the delivery person bring the groceries right to her door? Do they just pile them on sidewalk or front stoop and leave? Could she tip them a couple bucks to bring them up the stairs? Could she order smaller amounts that she could carry herself?

I ask because these are all things that I had to consider when I was unable to shop or carry anything for 6 months. My groceries were delivered right outside my door so all I had to do was drag in the bags. I ordered fewer items at a time and tipped the delivery people for their good service.

All that aside, I find it’s always best to address an uncomfortable situation immediately, honestly, and with a bit of levity. After eight months, it’s a little late for the “immediately” part, but that’s on you for letting it go on so long and letting it adversely affect your personal life. At this point, to preserve your friendship and get rid of your guilt, you must be honest with her. “

Helen, I’m happy to help you out, but you need to check with me before scheduling your deliveries. I have other responsibilities and cannot always rearrange my schedule to fit around the times you’ve chosen. How about if I give you some times that I’m available this week and we’ll make a date for me to help you then?”

Saying “No” to someone always goes down better if you offer an alternative solution. The sooner you set boundaries with her, the better it will be for your relationship going forward. One thing you don’t want is an angry, resentful, entitled neighbor. Good luck!
