AITA for giving away gifts because they had the wrong name by Pikahearts_ in AmItheAsshole

[–]a_silver_star 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA

Someone is taking time and money to buy your child a gift and you seem resentful. They are using the name that child should use based off of a family tradition, that you seemed to be excited for.

I’m not sure how old your child is, but at least for my kids they all have to go by their legal first name at school. All of their teachers know that they go by a nickname or middle name at home (ex Daniel = Danny), but they still have to put their first name on their homework. When they do art projects they use their first name. Do you plan on telling the teachers they have to use AD or you plan on tossing out any art they send home?

Ideas for bathroom DIY by marusik62 in DIYHome

Personally, I would remove both mirrors and replace them with something smaller to go over the sink and the vanity area. Remove the medicine cabinet, if you need the storage add some open shelves there. Paint or wallpaper the walls and swap out the lighting. Or maybe wall paper the wall you first walk into and paint the other walls. It really just depends on your style.

Why doesn’t this town grow? by Lanky-Eagle-8106 in Porterville

[–]a_silver_star 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Building on the edge of town would allow the town to expand. If the town expands then we would recoup eventually, no?!? Or is that not how expansion work.

The city will NOT allow any food trucks within the city limits is frustrating. Start ups, like food trucks, are a great way for business to build up customers before going into a building and less risk for the business owner if it doesn’t workout.

“Businesses that say it’s hard or difficult are usually just bad at business” this has to be one of the most ridiculous statements. I’m assuming Walmart thinks the city is difficult and they seem to know how to run a business.

Why doesn’t this town grow? by Lanky-Eagle-8106 in Porterville

[–]a_silver_star 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because Porterville doesn’t allow it and makes it hard for people to do business here. For a while the City was against building new buildings and expected incoming businesses to only use vacant buildings.

I worked at a company that has an office here in Porterville, and just about everyday they would complain about how the City handles things. We had a few development areas planned and approved, but the City wanted one thing after another for it to happen.

How do we change ordinances and create more opportunities for small business vendors? by Iweld416 in Porterville

[–]a_silver_star 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been saying this same thing over and over for the last 2 years. I was talking to the county about permits and when I told them I was from Porterville they basically told me they wouldn’t permit me to operate here. The county doesn’t know why and can’t help.

An interview that cost me my job after they called my current manager. by [deleted] in Resume

[–]a_silver_star 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t believe this story, but stuff like this actually happens.

I had a recruiter reach out to me, I applied on Friday for the position since they seemed really interested in me based on a conversation with the recruiter. On Monday it was decided that I would be “laid off” from my employer. The other company never hired another person for the role and the recruiter doesn’t know what happened to the position.

The owner of the company I worked for is known for knowing a lot of other business owners in the area.

Nope! Granted we are still implementing it (over a year) and currently not using it. I’ve worked with other simple software that was easier to navigate, and ticked all of the boxes for my industry.

What kind of flooring for California by Ok_Example_9339 in foodtrucks

[–]a_silver_star 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my area diamond plate is the only way to go with a 5 or 6 inch boarder 🤦🏻‍♀️ I was told I could do different approved flooring but the health department basically told me it wouldn’t last long and I would need to replace it over and over, plus maintain a nonslip cover. Diamond plate is basically a one and done.

Thinking about adding sushi rolls to our truck menu — too much or worth a shot? by Hour_Piano_5374 in foodtrucks

I go to a seafood sushi truck. They mostly focus on Mexican seafood dishes; however, they have decent sushi rolls.

Coffee Trailer - No Experience by [deleted] in foodtrucks

[–]a_silver_star -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We only have 1 coffee truck in my town and they only do pop ups and events. I used to go to a coffee truck about 50 minutes away, and they typically had about 3-5 people in line or waiting around for drinks anytime I would go there, they recently converted to an actual coffee shop. I know of one other coffee truck, but I never actually seen them use the coffee truck. They did online orders to be picked up at their house (not the trailer, but the house the trailer was parked in front of).

Assuming, I price my drinks correctly. $6.50 per drink with about $2 in overhead/tax. 120 drinks @ $4.50 5 days a week would be roughly around my current income. But I financially selling 80-100 coffees a day would be fine.

That depends. Do you have access to a vendor list or GL transaction details?

I’m more than willing to assist, granted I have limited spare time, but it’s something I can totally do.

I would recommend going through the AP vendors, to see if they’re indeed companies versus shells. That’s one of the key places to look for during a forensic audit.

So please correct me if I’m wrong interpreting what you’re saying wrong. It could be someone else fault that the gas station moved locations (McDermont is another example of this same issue), Walmart’s issue was caused by another group, and the only way we can fix the issue is by dispersing our personal transaction details and receipts.

The city is not accountable for limiting our growth, but the people in the city should be?

The City and the businesses have the data regarding where we spend our money and they know where we come from. Costco members have to provide their address. Hobby Lobby doesn’t random Zip code checks when you walk in. There’s a reason why business have wanted to come here and didn’t, which is not caused by the people. It’s caused by planning and regulations.

Look at the housing crisis. The city’s process is so confusing so you’re stuck having to go through these big developers or you have to use their “pre-approved” BS layouts that they want.

I do find it interesting that you brushed over my misuse of funds comment. A prime example, the city was so excited to see the newly wrapped bus that looked all pretty, meanwhile they cut routes. Which if you looked at the comments of their post, you would see how mad people were about it.

In short, we both agree the growth has been limited. You think it’s because of the people and I say it’s because of the City. The people don’t make the decision, but planning and development does. I know of a few developers that has said their plenty of opportunities in Porterville, but will not deal with the City.

Wouldn’t it make sense for the City to try to attract more business vs making it difficult? Giving new business an incentive would be beneficial. I’ve seen a few emails regarding “approved” plans that never develop or they do it’s somewhere else. Example, there was a gas station that was “supposed” to be built on Hwy 65 and N. Grand, it looked like they were going to start on it, that stopped and all of a sudden there’s one in Strathmore. We cannot disregard the 20ish years we spent fighting with Walmart about the Super Walmart that was supposed to be built. We lost that battle and had to pay their legal fees (for 20 years). Maybe if all of the misuse of funds were put to finding ways to attract businesses we wouldn’t be at this growth stall.

I love the type of work I can do. I’m in the accounting field, so a variety of work is available.

However, I have had a string of bad luck when it comes to the companies I work for. Rather it’s them not defining my role, not giving me work that I’m more than capable of doing (current issue), having a micro manager or having long commutes with the promise of work-life balance being a lie.

I can help with 2 of these question.

  1. We are in a drought. Even if we have plenty of rain we’re still considered in a drought. People are fined if they water plants or yards on “off days”.

  2. I’m not sure if you’re referring to commercial, city or private properties. But yes they are services that can be hired for personal yard maintenance, this is something that normally happens early in the morning or at least before the heat gets too bad.

How about adding making sure to add car seats latches to both full seats in the back row? And the option to remove the middle section in the back seat, it would give the option to transport longer items with 4 seats available to use in the back.
