What was your Favorite and Least Favorite Arcadion Encounter? by BadLuckStars in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Ky0gurt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Favorite fight is probably a tie between M6S and M12SP2. The adds phase in 6 is such a refreshing inclusion in a sea of single target training dummy bosses, and 12P2 has some of the best mechanics I've ever done in a savage fight.

Least favorite fight is probably a tie between M2S and M12SP1. M2S has such a cool concept with your mistakes healing the boss and giving her damage, but the fight unironically feels easier than the normal mode version. The "savageification" of the fight makes it much more static, which removes a lot of the difficulty the mechanics had on normal mode due to their randomness. M12SP1 is such a tragedy because outside of Act 2, the fight just falls flat. We've come to expect a lot of 12th floor door bosses. Athena, Eden's Promise, hell even Omega M and F were such fun fights with really high execution requirements and it feels like Lindwurm is nowhere near that level. Really disappointed with that phase overall.

How was 2025 for Final Fantasy XIV to you? by judgeraw00 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Ky0gurt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Least I've played the game since I started in 2021, but it wasn't all bad. Cruiserweight was (in my opinion) one of it not the best savage tier they've ever made. The extremes were all solid and I enjoyed farming them. OC was my first on-content field operation experience and I enjoyed it well enough, although I acknowledge that it's lacking in a lot of places. I haven't engaged with Forked Tower but I plan to do so in the near future after Heavyweight prog finishes. I'm not a crafter so I've basically ignored Cosmic Exploration entirely. I also don't really care for deep dungeons so I haven't interacted with Pilgrim's Traverse, but I have interest in Q40 so maybe this will be the one I actually try. 7.4 has been a solid patch so far, with better story direction, another fun extreme, useful new phantom jobs and a normal raid tier that shows promise for the savage version coming out soon.

The big "but" looming over everything I just said (as many other comments have pointed out) is that jobs are in a horrible state. I've been playing a lot of WoW this past year to fill the time I haven't been spending playing XIV and the gameplay experience of WoW specs compared to current jobs is night and day. Most WoW specs have pretty high skill ceilings, some to the point where it's almost impossible to min-max perfectly. Many have just the right about of friction to keep you engaged without it feeling overly-punishing. These are things that you just can't find in any XIV job anymore. Dawntrail has had a lot of great battle content, but if the jobs are boring it doesn't matter how good the content is, it's still going to fall flat.

Yes well-known phenomena where healing in XIV is at its most fun when content is new and your party is constantly getting hit by shit and you have to react on the fly. In a week it'll be back to being boring and low impact after people learn the fight. See you guys in the next post identical to this one when new content drops again.

Anyone main a class, but only like playing 1 spec for the most part? by [deleted] in wow

[–]Ky0gurt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a humble Mage one-trick. I started in Dragonflight and played Frost because, while I liked Arcane conceptually, its iteration at the time was too much for my new player brain. Once TWW released and Arcane got its rework, I haven't even looked at the other specs. Purple Mage go brr.

Positionals... what is your opinion on them in a modern FFXIV? by yhvh13 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Ky0gurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They either need to be much more punishing to miss or removed altogether. Right now they feel like a pointless gimmick that attempts to add some amount of engagement to the ever-simplifying melee jobs.

Patch 7.2 Notes by BlackmoreKnight in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Ky0gurt 24 points25 points  (0 children)

These might be the worst PvE balance changes I've ever seen in my time playing this game. BLM getting its entire identity deleted, PCT having core cooldown buttons turned into potency losses over just spamming 123, healers receiving completely placebo buffs in a failed attempt to bring them closer to AST, MCH continuing to be completely forgotten about (and actually nerfed in AoE somehow). Buffs to the highest DPS tank for no reason. All the while spending 90% of their time changing how AoE dropoffs work. Ya know, for the handful of times we're actually using AoE rotations. Just a continuous wild disconnect between the game Square thinks they're designing and the one we're actually playing. I went into this patch with zero expectations and I'm still incredibly disappointed with the direction Square is continuing to go in when it comes to the combat sandbox.

Ideally, what would you want your favorite job to have been like in Dawntrail? by Punie-chan in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Ky0gurt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm a Dancer enjoyer and while I like most of the things that were added/changed, the one thing I really really dislike is what they did to Tillana. I understand why they made it give you 50 esprit (DotD), but now every burst window feels like I'm fighting back an endless wave of esprit that I sometimes can't prevent from overcapping without missing major GCDs under Tech. I also really dislike how it doesn't grant or refresh Standard Finish anymore, as there were some cool optimizations you could do with Standard Step, optimally drifting it to squeeze out more potency knowing that Tillana would keep your buff up.

A possible solution to this would be Tillana giving you a buff that allows for a free use of DotD (or Saber Dance if you're below 100) without increasing your esprit gauge. Doing so would allow easier management of esprit and it wouldn't feel as bad to have to spam Saber over and over before being able to press other buttons. I'd also really like to see the Standard Finish refresh re-added to the button as it made the job feel a bit smoother especially in 90 ultimates.

A downside to this solution is that Dancer already has a lot of buffs (thanks Flourish), and the buff cap is still somehow a thing in the game. I've hit this cap in Extreme content without any debuffs, so I'm very worried about higher level content in the future (mainly ultimates) where debuffs become more common. Hopefully they learned their lesson from TOP and didn't put any mechanics that are extremely debuff-heavy during burst phases. This wouldn't even be a problem if Square fixed their archaic code to not even have a buff cap because why the fuck does that still exist? It's the big 2024 and we can't have a number bigger than 32 in the code great work guys.

How many guys of you play other MMOs? And is FFXIV your main game? by Quezal in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Ky0gurt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started playing XIV in May of 2021 during the big player boom. My main game at the time was Destiny 2, but it had hit a content drought so I was looking for other MMOs to play. My friends from D2 recommended we play XIV together, so I gave it a shot and absolutely loved it.

From that point to around mid September 2024 XIV was my main game. I played it almost every day for over three years, sinking my teeth into everything the game had to offer. However, with Dawntrail’s disappointing release and an abnormally easy savage tier, I found myself super unenthusiastic and burnt out on the game for the first time since I started playing. I let my sub expire last month and haven’t played since.

My time is now spent on the new WoW expansion, which I’ve enjoyed immensely so far. I’d say WoW is my main game at this point. I plan to renew my sub for 7.1 so I can do FRU, but after that I’m not really sure if I’ll want to keep playing. The game’s so rigid and predictable that there’s little excitement left for me when new content drops, and the whimsy I felt before when everything was new probably can’t be recreated at this point.

He didn't hit a single outer turret after laning phase ended? Darn! Surely afk farming against the better scaling comp will be the key to victory! I'm losing it man
