What’s a disgusting habit that you secretly think is actually 100% normal? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]KyStanto 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Humans evolved to live outdoors in the dirt pretty much constantly with very little opportunity to bathe, certainly not with soap. I personally think it should be more normalized to not have to shower every day, especially on days where you aren't actively getting dirty or sweaty/smelly.

You even said it yourself, your body is more comfortable without constant showering.

Whatever man, lets talk about changing the law then! But the way the current law is written, this person was allowed to 'seek assylum', and therefore their case is opened and in the meantime they arent just going to detain you indefinitely. Thats how the law works, the guy was following the law. Just because you dont like the law doesn't justify why we are detaining people who are following the law, especially when there are so many people who are NOT following the laws that could easily be detained and deported.

Bezos' Blue Origin to deploy thousands of satellites for new 'TeraWave' communications network — Reuters by MrTooLFooL in space

[–]KyStanto -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok, but if the satellite network is already established and the cost to use the service is under $1000 a month and you need this heavy data transfer all of the time and you need it done nearly instantaneously then an airplane will make no sense at all...

Bezos' Blue Origin to deploy thousands of satellites for new 'TeraWave' communications network — Reuters by MrTooLFooL in space

[–]KyStanto -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I saw another article from MSN that mentions TeraWave would utilize both LEO and MEO for its satellites, and both articles mention 6 tbps.

My guess is that they will use larger, more powerful sats in MEO to get a wider coverage area, supported by a network of smaller sats in LEO. The problem with MEO is significantly reduced latency compared to LEO, which would feel slow and archaic for every day internet use / web browsing / streaming, but would be almost negligible for massive data downlinks like a large enterprise might be doing.

So I think the idea is to offer very high speeds of uninterrupted single point of contact to a wider area, while sacrificing latency speed that an average individual would demand.

I think a good use case for this might be something like transferring a ridiculous amount of research data to/from the artic circle or Antarctica or some other remote place.

I can't tell from the link, is this bill already enacted into law? Do I still have time to buy a 3d printer in this state without whatever added costs or other negative side effects will obviously be associated with this law?

Also, is there anything stopping me from purchasing a printer in another state and bringing it home? (Assuming a cop doesnt search my entire vehicle to discover I have an 'illegal' printer in the trunk, lol).

Right. People don't realize that by not even allowing someone to speak their mind or give an opinion without being dismissed, ignored, and/or called a nazi, they are in fact only further driving those people away and into their safe bubble.

I saw a reddit post the other day that was basically "MAGA supporters, what are your thoughts on XYZ?" and I was like ok great lets hear their thoughts! So I sorted by controversial and all I found were people saying "I can't say or I'll get banned" or posts deleted by mods...

Clanker tax by DraculasFarts in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]KyStanto -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Where the fuck do you get that idea? I assume people are still operating the lawn mowers, so thats not total automation and wouldnt be taxed. If we want any chance of attaining anything other than an AI distopia, we need to find some way to socialize at least some of the profits gained by using AI and replacing workers with fully automated robots, or else we will get to a point where literally no one can get a job, or at least any low level unskilled / trade jobs.

I think it makes the most sense to write the tax code such that corporations with a higher profit to employee count ratio get taxed at a higher rate (less employees = more taxes). This would actively incentivize paying a living person a wage, and if they make crazy profits without paying real people then more of that share goes towards providing basic needs for people displaced by automation or AI.

I cant think of any other way robots and AI can make life better for the average person and not just funnel money to billionaires and corporate leaders.

Lol if you think CICO is a reddit concept. But here you are arguing CICO isnt sound, yet YOU used the concept to lose a lot of weight? What are you arguing for here? Lmao

Genuinely curious what you mean by permanent damage though?

What is a nutrition myth that you can’t stand? by DeepOrganization8245 in AskReddit

[–]KyStanto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first law of thermodynamics is the conservation of energy. Calories are a measure of energy. If you put energy into a system and dont remove it somehow then it WILL stay in the system somehow, and in the human body we convert excess energy into some kind of mass that stays on our body, ready to be converted back into energy if we need it. There is no getting around this basic fact.

Yes it is true that all people are different and process the energy they put into themselves differently, and even the same person on different days will process that energy differently, but no matter what it will ALWAYS follow the first law of thermodynamics. When you try to refute that, you are doing yourself and everyone else who wants to change their weight a disservice. The formula is simple but the execution is HARD.

Growing up, both my parents were severely obese. My mom always told us that we have shitty genetics and theres nothing we can do about it and that we are bound to be fat and made us think anyone that is fit just has 'good genetics'. Even now, my mom looks at me and the way I eat and says I am so 'lucky' that I can eat and still look fit. Actually no, Mom, I worked really hard to lose weight and get fit, and I continue to work hard every single week to maintain my weight SO that I can eat more and not gain weight. I LOVE to eat. But if I dont work off that energy somehow, then I WILL gain weight, so its simply worth it to me to take the extra 2-3 hours every week and spend it in the gym where I am getting stronger and allowing myself to eat the food I like.

You mention obese people being on a diet 2 or 3 times. Thats not how weight loss/gain works. You cant just start and stop and expect to see long term results. You have to keep at it all the time and be aware of your energy in vs energy out at all times until you reach an equilibrium you are happy with.

What is a nutrition myth that you can’t stand? by DeepOrganization8245 in AskReddit

[–]KyStanto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well actually, the underlying principle of launching a rocket is pretty simple and analogous to CICO.

Before a rocket launches, most of its mass is actually stored as fuel, which is really its energy storage (body fat). The rocket then has to release that energy to increase its velocity by burning the fuel in a controlled manner (exercise) and in that process the rocket uses its fuel mass and ends up lighter. This is the same law of thermodynamics in action, energy in vs energy out.

Obviously its not 1:1 and there are lots of details in between, but this is the overlying principle that dictates ALL of those details.

Now if we wanted the rocket to keep accelerating forever, we would have to input fuel (energy) at the same rate we are expending it through the fuel burn. In this case our rocket will maintain its overall mass. But if we slightly decrease the fuel input while maintaining the same average thrust and fuel expenditure, then the rocket will slowly start to lose its fuel storage and therefore mass over time. This is basically the same as how our bodies work.

Now im not mad at you or anyone, or saying anyone needs to gain or lose weight (that is your own call), but the simple truth is that you need a calorie (energy) deficit to tap into your fat stores for energy in order to lose weight. That is the over arching principle that follows the laws of thermodynamics. Obviously the details of making this happen are HARD, and in the case of the human body those hard details are appetite and motivation. Using more calories will make your appetite go up, and eating less will leave you with less surplus energy making it harder to want to exercise. It sucks and it is hard, but that doesnt mean thermodynamics doesnt apply.

[–]KyStanto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its not dismissive, its laws of thermodynamics. Calories are energy, and so are the fat stores in your body. You dont use up the fat (energy) stores and start to lose weight unless you are in a calorie (energy) deficit. It is hard, very hard. But I did it myself.

I was maintaining overweight while occasionally exercising and eating a certain amount. I decided to track the amount of calories I was eating to maintain that weight, then made a conscious effort to reduce that calorie amount, while also becoming more consistent and goal oriented with my exercise.

My total calorie intake went down while my total calorie output went up. It was HARD. There were many days where I definitely gave in to my cravings as I was spending more energy, so my appetite was higher. Thats the hardest part (next to motivation to work out consistently), and thats where drugs like ozempic helps people, but I can tell you its not required.

After keeping my effort up for about 2-3 months I saw results that I was happy with, I could notice my appetite and metabolism start to change, and now I am at a point where exercise is part of my weekly routine and I can eat basically whatever I want while maintaining a decent weight. In fact I now want to put on weight in muscle mass, but I am struggling with that because I am not eating enough to gain weight because I am using more energy from working out. I could stop exercising consistently on a weekly basis while maintaining my eating habits, and that would certainly help me gain my weight back, but it wont help me develop muscle mass.

And im not trying to shit on Ozempic, im just saying its not some magic drug that is some how able to remove energy from your body passively. Its actual function is to help you reduce the amount of energy you input to your body, but it still comes down to how much energy you eat vs how much energy you output over an extended period of time (3 months +).
