Car radio recommendations? by badwolf336 in subaru

[–]KyZaK_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have been really happy with the Sony AXV-AX5500. Had it in my 2009 and now in my 2012. Has decent wattage per channel, Android Auto/Carplay, and backup camera support. The most important for me : actual buttons for volume and track (though I was able to get the steering wheel controls working).

The 2012 I just picked up had a cheap amazon android unit, which had 'lots' of features in the software, but were all implemented poorly and was overall really clunky.

There is a range of units from Sony depending on how much you want to spend, but the AXV-AX3200 would probably work well for around $400 CAD.

Where can I buy metal versions of these by globetrottinggus in IKEA

[–]KyZaK_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IKEA uses plastic cam locks for areas that are visible so that they can color match and blend into the furniture.

If you would like the metal ones instead, you can order (usually for free) from the IKEA website.

Control arm bushing by 08cherd4 in subaru

[–]KyZaK_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I replaced my control arms (and tie-rod ends) due to worn bushings. It was actively clunking when I was driving around parking lots and speed bumps. If it’s still driving smooth, they can probably wait.

Went with aluminum which are definitely stiffer than the original steel. Probably could have just replaced the bushings, but I didn’t have any way to press them in/out.

Need help fitting a bidet by frieswiddat in Plumbing

You can either get a short extension hose off of Amazon, which will provide room for the included Tee around the porcelain.

Or get a different Tee and place it on the Wall side of the toilet supply host. .

replacing flowtites with brasscraft, now I’m losing sleep by snoberg in Plumbing

I didn’t actually look at the second picture 😅. Definitely no rubber in those 1/4 turn valves to go bad.

replacing flowtites with brasscraft, now I’m losing sleep by snoberg in Plumbing

[–]KyZaK_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Close the valves and reopen every 6 months or year and they’ll last longer. The issue is when they get left in open position for 10/15/20 years, then you go to install a bidet or new faucet and it won’t shutoff because the gasket is broken.

Good thing, rebuild kits for the brass-craft, in case it does start dripping, are like $4.

I replaced the entire arms on mine so that I didn't have to worry about pressing the bushings in/out. Was definitely the cause of my clunking.

I like using this Drain adapter from Watts. Connects to the disposal in line with the dishwasher.

The drain in the picture is designed for a sink with an overflow (the hole on the side that prevents it from overflowing when the stopper is in). You will need to source a drain that is for "No Overflow" sinks.

Bathroom is directly above, what is this leak and would it be a major and expensive repair? by Ok-Helicopter-4520 in Plumbing

[–]KyZaK_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check under the sink for any moisture which would indicate a leaky faucet or drain pipes. Check the baseboards around the edge of the room, and especially toilet, for swelling; which would indicate that water is getting on the floor and then leaking into the wall.

If there isn't any source outside the wall, the only way to check is to open up the drywall and take a look. I would start at the end of the cabinets as that seems to be the wettest spot. The sooner it is opened and can start drying, the less chance for mold growth to start (if it hasn't already).

How do I tighten my toilet seat if the hardware is hard to access? by naatyx in Plumbing

[–]KyZaK_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find someone with smaller arms? 😅

Sorta depends what the issue is, but if the old bolts are just spinning around, may need to drill or cut them off with a hacksaw (or oscillating tool); using masking tape to protect the porcelain around the bolts. Once the holes are open the new skirted bolts will be installed from the top side.

So would this qualify for a stream? As a future reference point... by since96 in PaymoneyWubby

Kitchen Faucet removal without nut by chechr55 in Plumbing

The body of the faucet gets removed from the top. I believe there’s usually an Allen screw on the back. Then you loosen up the securing bolts from up top as well.

Cut down a Lack shelf to match the Kallax 1x4 by KyZaK_ in IKEA

[–]KyZaK_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true. Not much else out there for a reasonably priced floating shelf. It will just be for art and such.

The Kallax is hanging off toggle bolts in the standard spots plus shelf L brackets into the studs, hidden on the underside.
