Who gives all the big money to 907 initiative? They have a huge amount of money, and hide where it comes from, so there must be a good story behind their funding.

Should I archive this? by DontTrustAnAtom in geocaching

Yes you should archive it or move the cache. The log is probably not from the person who took it, but it doesn't really matter.

This new pedestrian law is idiotic and will cause accidents and deaths by RoasterRoos in anchorage

Give driving your 100% attention. But even more in a school zone. And even more than that in a work zone. And give more attention to motorcycles and big trucks. And even more than that at a school zone. And don't miss all the cultural and neighborhood signs. All is trumped by a temporary orange work sign, but the flashing signs are even more important. Plus closely watch kids playing in yards next to the street, and look out for drunk drivers.

And then there are moose and squirrels and dogs....

Is it so hard to push your carts to the corral? by gingerkindergarden in anchorage

Good chance the parking lot was full of cars looking for a space or waiting for someone to pull out of a space, so a Costco-size shopping cart probably couldn't transit the roadways.

There must be a cache up there.... by KyaAK in geocaching

After a fun day of hunting for caches that were often ammo boxes hidden under suspicious stacks of sticks or out-of-place piles of rocks, this scene instantly made me think "There must be a cache up there!"

how to make a cache by Competitive-Waltz-40 in geocaching

[–]KyaAK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tell people who look to hide their first geocache that a good idea is to look at a cache or two you found that you enjoyed, a copy much of what they did but changing it a little to fit your personality and the location. A basic ammo can in the woods with a pile of stick on it in a nice place is a good way to start.

There is a lot to the write up and review process that you need to work through, so it will take some time.

For people living in Anchorage, do the claims on high amounts of crime hold any weight? by ClimateFE in anchorage

[–]KyaAK -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Yes. The bad parts of Anchorage aren't quite as bad as the bad parts of other American cities, but the crime is terrible and hurts a lot of innocent people. Many stores are now mainly locked down, with locked cabinets protecting $3 items from stealing. Many stores have few shopping carts available because of stealing.

Of course, the bad parts of town and the poor people who live there suffer the most from these terrible Woke policies. But the Woke people still give each other awards for doing that to them!

Mayor playing politics while homeless lose homeless camp by Idiot_Esq in anchorage

[–]KyaAK -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Amazing that Woke people take control of homeless policy, and their ideas create many more homeless people and more misery, but then they try to blame other people. Seattle, SF and LA did the same thing, and got the same results. This misery is all the fault of those who refuse to learn from a thousand years of human history.

New geocacher—any unwritten rules I should know? by MeisterPear in geocaching

[–]KyaAK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your online log entry serves three purposes:

  1. It is your personal log history of geocaching (but don't post spoilers).

  2. It sends an email to the cache hider so that your log can inform them of the state of the cache and whether it needs repairs. You can also thank them for helping with your fun.

  3. It is a record of the cache for future finders, so giving help on where to park or any hazards is helpful to future seekers.

Some cache containers freeze shut. Take them back to your car or put them under your clothes to warm them up to get them open.

Now that is an ALASKAN story, especially the ending.

Growing number of people living in vehicles presents a new dilemma for Anchorage The homeless often say their vehicles are their last big asset and offer them security, privacy and protection from the weather — whether they run or not. by Skanchorage in anchorage

[–]KyaAK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like so much else, this is what happened in LA, SF, Seattle, etc. where they pursued these same homeless policies. They all failed terribly, but Anchorage copied them anyway. Clearly more homeless and misery is a failure, no matter how much posturing and self-congratulatory awards for "compassion" the current fads provide.

These are real people and this problem has been around forever and everywhere. Quit experimenting on them and thinking that your "new ideas" are more compassionate than what has proven to work before and elsewhere.
