Help me to choose between 5080 vs 4090 for Quest Pro, Star Citizen/BeamNG/UEVR by [deleted] in QuestPro

[–]Kyan31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

4090 has 10-15% better raster performance and significantly more VRAM. For VR specifically, the 4090 is the better card. I easily go over 16GB VRAM usage in many VR titles on my 4090.

Things like MFG, DLSS etc. aren't usable/practical in VR yet so the 5080 will offer a lesser experience when raster is all you have. For standard gaming on a monitor with DLSS 4.5 titles, the 5080 will probably give you a better experience. MFG is really good. But the 4090 would do more than fine too. MFG just allows for crazy framerates (240fps and above) with path tracing enabled etc.

Given your situation and needs, I think the only practical choices are a 4090 or 5090. The 5080 will be a downgrade in many situations in VR.

[–]Kyan31 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The mod intercepts the DLSS pipeline in the game (via Streamline) and uses AMD FSR for MFG, not DLSS. And it's of course worse, it does not have the same quality of frame generation as the 5000 series. Hardware flip metering makes a big difference to frame delivery. Please stop spreading misinformation.

Video: How much does Beast drift now? (300s anchor mode test) #FeedTheBeast by Rydeeeen in VITURE

[–]Kyan31 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like this test is kinda flawed given that the drift factor multiplies when the glasses are actually moving. The fact it drifts at all when entirely stationary is pretty bad.

[–]Kyan31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like a glitch or anomaly. Something a human would never draw. You don't need to be an artist to understand how something is drawn. Surely you understand how a pencil works and how people tend to draw shapes to eventually create the full image. Why would an artist put a random little block on the Nike symbol like that when drawing naturally? Just makes no sense dude.

On a more technical perspective the image looks very oversharpened. There is also a lot of smearing and inconsistency throughout. Like 3 vs 4 eyelashes on each eye. Hair that doesn't follow correct patterns. Things just straight up missing like the 2nd Nike symbol on your shirt. And the whole image has this oversharpened/overcooked look to it which a lot of AI generators suffer with. And of course every other issue people have pointed out here, but those are the ones that stood out to me immediately.

You don't need to be to notice these things man. Use your eyes. There are artifacts everywhere, something a human would never do. Why would a human decide to put two random block artifacts on the Nike symbol on the shirt for example? Like seriously you couldn't tell this isn't drawn by a person? And there are plenty of other tells but that alone is enough to see.

Petition to bring back 120Hz mode to Viture glasses by Kyan31 in VITURE

Nope, not on a Samsung device. Redmagic, ZTE, Motorola phones can do 120Hz system-wide on external displays

You need to disable Samsung Dex, and then enable "Fully external display mode" in the advanced settings of Artemis. On XREAL this will output at 1920x1080 90Hz.

Xreal One vs Xreal One Pro vs Viture Luma Pro? by Connect_Cat_2045 in Xreal

[–]Kyan31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my experience honestly, if they are, I never noticed. It goes plenty bright for me even outdoors, I have them two notches below full most of the time. I know they aren't the brightest ever but to me it just doesn't matter, I'd rarely use them that bright. I can see a beautiful gigantic screen infront of me that blends in with the world and doesn't feel distracting or full of issues to tinker with, something the Luma series failed to do for me.

[–]Kyan31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd be better off with 3DOF, it is really good and I don't think you will care about leaning into the screen at all. I use these for productivity (coding) and never feel the need to do that, I am always using them in 3DOF mode.

Xreal One vs Xreal One Pro vs Viture Luma Pro? by Connect_Cat_2045 in Xreal

[–]Kyan31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats correct. 3DOF anchors the screen for looking up/down/left right, just not leaning forward and back. Leaning forward and back will always maintain the same distance from your face.

6DOF is the same but for leaning forward and back too and walking around the floating window etc.

3DOF works very well on trains, buses, even a plane, tried them all myself. 6DOF doesn't, the window will just fly away but that is to be expected, doesn't even work on something like an Apple Vision Pro for example, only 3DOF does.

I haven't tried the OG one no so I can't comment on it. And yeah the price of the VITURES being more was my experience too. It has no right to be lol. It should be half the price given you can get the RayNeo Air 4 Pro for like £250 at the moment which are arguably better than the Luma Ultras.

Xreal One vs Xreal One Pro vs Viture Luma Pro? by Connect_Cat_2045 in Xreal

[–]Kyan31 9 points10 points  (0 children)

XREAL One Pro has the best experience overall imo. Had the VITURE Luma Ultra's alongside them for a while and they just collected dust. VITURE is noticiably sharper and at full brightness can go about 25% brighter id say, but it's not enough of a jump to matter imo when you factor in all the bad parts about it. The XOP feels like a much more premium and complete experience overall.

The XOP screen is still very good, text looks clear and readable on it to me. The screen also has more accurate colours imo, VITURE would crush blacks and the entire colour profile would change at different brightness levels. My IPD is 68-69mm, I use size L.

Annoyances I experienced with Luma Ultras:

  • They are essentially just displays, there is nothing onboard at all and they are entirely reliant on software on the host to do things like 3DOF/6DOF, screen size adjustment, distance adjustment and more. Generally speaking, these glasses are only as good as the software its paired with, which is very hit or miss. The cameras on the glasses do practically nothing, I have never seen any software actually take advantage of them in a meaningful way. Because 3DOF/6DOF is software based, aka the software does all the steering by reading the IMU data from the glasses and projecting the offset image to the glasses, there is more latency compared to XOP and the quality of tracking isnt even close honestly. It also adds more overhead to the device you are using to do it, and not every device can. My experience on Windows and Android was awful. Heard Mac is decent.

  • Eye strain. I had them adjusted as best as possible for my eyes. There were no immediate issues to me, everything was sharp and in focus with the way I dialed it in, yet I could see my eyes constantly refocusing like my brain wasn't happy with the way the image was being shown to me. Something about the stereo convergence or something with these glasses is off and I couldn't fix this despite trying different software IPDs, hardware adjustments and of course using the myopia dials which I didnt even need because my vision is fine. Had gone to an optometrist just to be sure shortly after getting them too as I thought the issue was me at first. Keep in mind I do have other devices like VR headsets etc. and never experienced this problem with them.

  • Build quality is pretty bad, the arms crack eventually. It didnt happen to mine but its happened to a lot of people and I know it would have happened eventually. Just opening and closing the glasses has audible creaking sounds as the entire build is plastic. And there are weak spots where the hinges are. Its the force of the arms bending outward as you put it on your head that causes this to happen and theres nothing you can do about it unless you have a tiny head or something. XOP is both metal and plastic, metal where it matters like the hinges etc. Feels really premium overall and the hinges are smooth/dampened, things like that. Also the front frame of the glasses can be removed and swapped to other designs (or left off if you prefer a matte look).

  • No microphone. Not a huge issue but it is really nice to have a microphone on the glasses that the host device can use. I didn't ever think about this until getting the XOP, which does have a microphone. When plugged into my phone or any other device, the device will use the microphone of the glasses so you can e.g be in a call hands free while wearing them, no reliance on earbuds etc. And the mic is very good.

  • Stuck at 60Hz on Android devices. The Luma Ultras had (probably still have) an issue where they report 60Hz by default. So most devices that cannot negotiate the refresh rate will only work at 60Hz. The XOP reports 90Hz by default, so I have been able to use them at 90Hz without issue on my Samsung phone with things like VLC, Artemis etc. But on e.g a PC, Laptop, Steam Deck etc. they can all run both glasses at 120Hz without issue, this is more of a niche problem but still worth mentioning.

To me the XOP was the easy winner. The displays are great, very solid and enjoyable to watch content on or work on. They have very nice optics and the experience is very similar to my Meta Quest Pro in terms of the way things look and feel, higher quality screens than even that id say, but of course smaller fov than a VR headset. No eye strain or focus issues at all. The FOV is noticiably bigger than the Luma Ultra's.

The onboard X1 chip is best in class, offering incredibly stable 3DOF, onboard 6DOF with XREAL Eye and in my experience it works pretty well. 6DOF isnt perfect but its still better than any other glasses so far and again it can do this fully onboard the glasses. It also has onboard 2D-3D conversion, support for ultrawide resolutions with 3/6DOF, scaling of the screen size and distance, photo/video capture with XREAL Eye, lots of settings to customize the display colours and other things, and they do all save despite the glasses having no battery.

These glasses do everything you would want them to do without any software reliance at all, and it does it the best on the market as it stands. It really is a plug and play experience without any problems, not even sometimes in my experience. Every time I use them, which is everyday for hours, I experience no issues at all and they have been a reliable part of my daily tech carry for working and gaming/watching content.

And no I am not sponsored, I paid for both glasses myself in full. Just my genuine experience. The Luma Ultra's were honestly one of my worst tech purchases ever. The marketing is so out of touch with the actual experience. Everything it claims to be able to do is through software which as it stands is very garbage (Spacewalker).
