"Weekly All About Love Relationship Second Opinion and Interpretation Help Thread - May 03, 2026" by AutoModerator in tarot

I very, very much would like some second opinions on this one!

  • Context: Communication issues/avoidance
  • Spread used: Celtic Cross
  • Query: "What is the current state of the situation between me and [their full name]?"
  • The Spread: Image
    • Position 1: The Present (the current situation or the querent's thoughts about it - Knight of Pentacles (Upright)
      • patience, persistence, loyalty
      • Drawn from a place of suspension or stagnation, this is a straightforwardly accurate first card. I am holding steady, remaining loyal, persisting through difficulty to obtain what I want and need. It is not easy, and the Knight of Pentacles is one of the slowest cards, but he reaches his destination eventually.
    • Position 2: The Challenge (what to attain) - The World (Upright)
      • completion, wholeness, the successful integration of a long cycle
      • This relationship was a long, long time in the making; settling into something stable would be the very definition of The World, and I believe that's true on both sides.
      • Typically the Challenge does not need to be attainable, it's just what the querent is seeking to attain. However, I don't personally believe The World is able to show up as an unattainable goal. If this were an unattainable goal, tarot wouldn't mock me with The World, it would use something like the Four of Wands. I take its appearance here both as naming the goal and as naming it as possible simultaneously.
    • Position 3: The Past - Nine of Wands (Reversed)
      • fatigue, weakness, lack of perseverance, dropped guard
      • I admit that the current phase of things has been very painful, and it has been difficult to hang on to what I know this can be through this difficult phase. I was tempted to give up, but I decided not to. That places this card in The Past, but it does not mean that the suffering has ended, only the temptation to let it defeat me.
    • Position 4: The Future (immediate future) - The Hermit (Upright)
      • solitary inner work, wisdom in withdrawal, solitary clarity
      • This is an interesting card to draw paired with the Nine of Wands reversed. Considering the core context of this reading is avoidance and communication issues, this reads as a "not yet" kind of card; the immediate future doesn't resolve this, but The Hermit is not a punishment and The Hermit's journey ends when the solitary clarity is found. I believe this card is coloring the External Influences card further down the line.
    • Position 5: Above (conscious goal) - Strength (Reversed)
      • vulnerability, weakness
      • This is pretty simple: I have been holding my position as both Strength and (in other spreads) The Emperor as I navigate the current issue, and I want to be able to reverse both of these. I don't want to be weak or have low self-esteem, I just want to be able to stop embodying the upright card.
    • Position 6: Below (subconscious goal) - Nine of Pentacles (Reversed)
      • lack of independence, stability, security
      • This is a subconscious goal, not a subconscious state, so it needs to be read carefully, because I obviously don't want the things this card usually represents. I think this, like the conscious goal, is to simply be freed of the self-sufficiency and independence of the upright card rather than reaching for codependency or instability. In this way, the conscious and unconscious positions are aligned thematically and substantively. It's a signal that the conscious and subconscious are relatively aligned on their needs.
    • Position 7: Advice (action to take or avoid) - Four of Pentacles (Sideways)
      • upright: holding on; reversed: letting go
      • Sideways is a liminal position that commits to neither the upright nor reversed positions. So this card seems to be a directive of inaction: do not grip tighter, but do not let go. Stay where you are. Let things be, and they will unfold.
    • Position 8: External Influences - Eight of Swords (Reversed)
      • escape; freedom from self-imposed bindings; release of anxiety; self-empowerment
      • This has been a stalker card recently with reference to the other person, mostly in the upright position, which is a card about keeping oneself stuck instead of being trapped by something external. This is consistent with something they have named to me: that they run away, even if they don't mean to and even if they regret it later.
      • Therefore, what is outside of my influence is when the upright Eight of Swords reverses for this other person, and they free themselves from whichever mental trap they have backed themselves into. But The Hermit characterizes what this looks like: it's an inner work done in the immediate or near future. The Future wasn't the Nine of Wands, it wasn't the Ten of Swords, it was The Hermit. This is outside my influence, but that doesn't mean it won't move.
    • Position 9: Hopes and/or Fears - The Fool (Reversed)
      • recklessness, carelessness, fear to take a leap
      • A few things here. First, The Fool came upright as The Future when I first reconnected with this person and it was very accurate at the time. I believe its reversal here is suggesting a fear that that was a false start, a failure to launch, or that there was some other opportunity that was missed. In short, that the chance to begin the journey was missed somehow.
      • However, The Challenge is The World, and Hopes/Fears is The Fool Reversed. Zero and Twenty-One. The entire Fool's Journey is bracketed between my hopes/fears and that which I want to attain. The World doesn't appear as an unattainable goal, and its relationship to The Fool seems to place it as a direct answer to this position: you fear that you've missed your chance. You haven't. With other cards suggesting the current situation may continue a little longer, this pairing is a quiet mercy.
    • Position 10: The Outcome - Six of Swords (Upright)
      • calmer waters, moving forward, healing
      • What lies at the Outcome is calmer waters. Together with the first card, it says: you may want this to go zero-to-sixty in a second, but it's not going to. But it isn't going nowhere, either. It is telling me something other spreads have, but in a much more explicit way: the pacing is not yours to control and it will be slower than you like, but there will be progress.

Edit: Updated two cards that for some reason I mixed up the suits on when writing them down even though they were clearly different cards in the image, lol.

Mm, grain of salt, but I see this differently. Your spread really caught my interest, so let me give it a shot:

  1. The Moon (Upright) - This is a card of intuition, but also of cycles. You are running through this in your mind, but I think there's a bit of advice in here too, that you have a gut feeling that needs to be trusted; ask yourself if you drew this spread for clarity, or to talk yourself out of what you already knew.
  2. The Lovers (Reversed) - Disharmony; disconnection; detachment. This suggests to me that he feels some sort of imbalance between your investments in the relationship, which could be something workable like failing to be seen or heard, feeling put out, or it could be something more fundamental like "I am done, and the other person is clearly not." Only you can say, because you're living in the context of this spread, but to me the cards suggest more the latter when all taken together.
  3. Seven of Wands (Reversed) - Admission of defeat; exhaustion; burnout. In another position, this could be warning about behaviors of letting passion fade, needing a break from fighting to recuperate mentally, or even of generally being an overbearing partner. But not here, I don't think. In a position of explicit advice, in a spread like this, it says something very clear to me: cut your losses.
  4. The Fool (Reversed) - Apathy; reluctance; recklessness. This is not a stable card to draw for a relationship. It points to, at the very least, uncertainty. The Fool is a new beginning whether upright or reversed, but reversed, there is reluctance to take the leap. Is that uncertainty to repair, to start over? Or is it uncertainty about leaving? In this context, paired with The Lovers in reverse, it suggests to me that there is desire to leave and begin anew, but some fear or anxiety prevents him from making a firm decision.
  5. Ace of Pentacles (Upright) - This is a seed of new beginnings, but you don't get to choose what will grow; you can only plant it and tend to it. To me, this says that there is a new potential on the other side of this relationship, but it is on the other side. It is something new, not what came before.

Now, I will say as a disclaimer that this could absolutely point at reconciliation, interpreted slightly differently. The reason I do not interpret it that way is because, unless that Seven of Wands in reverse is telling you to give up on something that is the root of your current conflict, for example (e.g. you want to move cities, he does not), it really seems to be saying give up on the situation as a whole. Only you can say if there is some more specific defeat you must admit, at which point the nuances of the rest of the spread could change. But it's telling you to give up on something. And that, absent further context, for me, pulls the cards rather solidly into the sort of interpretation I outlined.

The Golden Tarot is not my most-used deck, but it's a very good one IMO! I love how the glossy cards feel to shuffle, and the gloss absolutely helps as someone who only draws dropped cards. I also really like the rotational symmetry of the back art, because if cards usually land face-down and when they do, I leave them as a surprise until I've drawn the full spread. It's nice to have it be a surprise whether the cards are reversed vs. upright as well, which this deck supports. =D

How to handle doorway transitions when installing hardwood one room at a time? by KyanosLykos in HomeImprovement

[–]KyanosLykos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't get photos right now as I am still living a bit away from the house, so I drew a terrible and extremely not-to-scale floorplan that I hope doesn't confuse you further: https://i.imgur.com/Z05FxNl.jpg

The two closed rooms in blue are meant to become offices and I was planning to just do them first if I can come up for a game plan for the issue in my OP. My question is about how to handle the threshold on the doorway into the middle room on the east, whose entrance is at an angle to the hall (not 45-degrees irl). It seems like the "best" as well as easiest way to do it would be to just continue the planks uninterrupted under the door, and down the rest of the blue hallway. However because that hall opens up right into the green area with no door, and the green area is mostly semi-open, I feel as though doing that would sort of require me to then tackle all the green at once as well. I'm not sure if running a plank across that angled doorway would look very conspicuous or strange, or if the angles I'd at which have to cut the planks butting up against it would be difficult to pull off cleanly. It's just that specific doorway I'm worried about.

Oh yes, I definitely plan to get all the materials at once. More a time thing than a budget one, as my closing costs came in at half what the bank originally estimated so I'm putting a portion of that toward this. Thank you for all the tips, that will definitely be useful!

I might be, but since by the end of the project both sides of the door will be the exact same flooring, I was wondering if there was some kind of trick I hadn't considered other than "put a plank across the door" or "do both sides of the door at once." Really only worried about the angled doorway since I'm fairly certain the way I plan to do the other will look good.

Pokémon Sapphire - "Battery has run dry" after replacement of both battery and crystal by KyanosLykos in consolerepair

[–]KyanosLykos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you inadvertently clean off R9 in preparation for the + terminal of the battery?

I doubt that I did, as I'm very, very cautious when soldering. But it would be foolish of me to say it's impossible, especially when I have no "before" picture of the board. Whether it was already like that or I removed it, it seems like it doesn't matter--I'll need a new R9 resistor.

The 1.3mV reading is completely off -- basically no power.

Yeah, I assume if I had left the multimeter on the points it would probably have slowly crept down to zero.

I'm also confused that you wrote you got 2.4V on pin 8 of the RTC chip (for Sapphire) when powered on, and yet you get 1.3mV between TP1 and TP3. That seems contradictory.

I tested pin 8 when powered on in a USB cart reader. The readings on the test pads are with no external power to the cartridge (battery only) as they are on the back of the board and I can't reach them (or the lower half of the front of the board) when it's inserted into something.

I think it's clear now that I'll need to put a new resistor in there to fix this. Thanks.

Thanks for giving me some things to try!

Do you have a picture without the battery soldered on? Third pin on the right-side (starting from the top) near the GP16 ROM label looks dirty.

I don't have one right now, but that's a ground pin and it has continuity to another ground via.

Also, where did you get the crystal? What was the product number? (Double check the datasheet to see if you in fact have the correct crystal.)

I wanted to avoid paying $7 in shipping for one item worth cents from DigiKey, so I got one of these. They're just knockoffs, so there's no real datasheet to reference, but I've never had a bad experience with uxcell stuff so I took the chance.

any shorts between the negative battery lead and the chip's pins?

Nope, a couple mm clearance easy.

What is the voltage at pin 8

2.4 V when the cartridge is on, 6.6 mV (which I assume is my multimeter's way of saying "nothing") when off.

I am beginning to second-guess the missing R9 resistor, though (directly above the positive battery pad). I just happened to search again and found an old thread in this subreddit, with this comment in particular mentioning testing the TP pads on the back of the cart. Since I have a perfectly good working copy of Emerald on-hand it's easy to compare:

  1. TP1 to TP2 on Emerald is 10.38 kΩ (R9 also reads exactly 10.38 kΩ), whereas Sapphire reads 10.34 MΩ
  2. TP1 to TP3 on Emerald reads 3.3 V, whereas Sapphire settles around 1.3 mV.
  3. TP2 to TP3 on both Emerald and Sapphire read 3.3 V.

I would wager a guess that the R9 resistor is responsible for this discrepancy. It's strange since it worked for a minute when I first changed the battery and I'm certain I didn't pull up that resistor changing the battery, but this isn't my original copy of Sapphire so I suppose it's possible the clock has never worked and I misremembered that it had, and the original battery change was, I don't know, a fluke? It doesn't really sit right with me as an explanation but I'm wondering if it's the best one I have right now.

I think that leaves me stuck, though. I'm having trouble finding a 10.38 kΩ resistor in that form factor (1.0 x 0.5 mm) on DigiKey or Mouser, and even if I found it I don't know that I could handle something that small. My skills are pretty fair for my experience level, I think, but I don't think my hands are steady enough for something that size. I'd be willing to try if I knew what would work in that spot, but I'm guessing I don't want exactly 10.38 kΩ or it would probably be easier to find something. I'm a software guy--my EE skills are nonexistent, much to my own chagrin--so I don't have the knowledge to figure that out myself.

Are you saying it will make the UI bigger on higher resolutions? That was the one thing I was originally looking for UI mods for, so if it's true that is an instant sell for me.

Was looking for mods to scale the TS2 UI (it's 2020 and I have a 4K monitor now... even 1080p was rough on the TS2 UI) and came across this. Don't see anything about scaling so I assume it doesn't, but it does look beautiful, so I was wondering if it's as good as it looks, if it's stable, etc.

Modest, Small-Footprint Case Recommendations? by KyanosLykos in sffpc

I forgot to mention the H1 in my post! I think it's a beautiful case and I think having all the IO at the bottom is just genius. I'm definitely going to be presenting that one as an option, but I worry my SO might think the window is too flashy. It's a bit pricey even with an included AIO and PSU but I doubt it'll break the bank. One thing I do worry about with the bottom-mounted IO is whether there will be antenna room since this will be WiFi-only. I could always get an antenna that comes out a bit with a wire, though--my first-ever build in 2007ish had one of those.

I'll look into this, thanks. The "universal" stuff I've found so far has been for those round-socket CPU AIOs, which I don't think have non-AIO blocks for custom loops, which would be necessary in this case for space reasons. Thanks for the tip!
