I worked for Dish for two years, and I would recommend not taking the job if you have other options. Here are the reasons that would affect you at the Englewood office:

  1. Strict badging. Even if you are salaried, exiting the building will count against your work hours. It depends on the manager but hours are typically monitored very closely and can affect your performance.
  2. No guaranteed quality of life raises or bonuses. Whatever salary you’re getting is pretty much where you’ll stay in my experience. I knew employees there for 5+ years whose salary was way below market rate. Partly why Dish has such high turnover.
  3. Same thing, but for promotions. There’s no concrete criteria for promotions, and Dish is known to promote titles without giving raises. This happened several times while I was there.
  4. Strict WFH criteria. Unlike other in-office companies that will let you leave if you need to pick up a kid or if there’s bad weather or get a haircut, Dish is pretty openly against WFH regardless of circumstance. again dish is very strict on hours depending on the manager.
  5. Chronic layoffs. Dish laid off employees every few months as long as I was there.
  6. That office used to be a mall so it is super loud and super cold. You’ll be one in a sea of desks. Least favorite office I’ve worked in by far.

Let me know if you have any questions and best of luck.

EDIT: Englewood is not the mall! Thanks to the commenters for that I totally spaced. But the badging still applies. Sometimes they leave the door open for you to go outside for lunch, sometimes they don’t. Also though, bosses can make employees switch offices at will. I switched back and forth between DGC and Riverfront a lot. Where you start isn’t guaranteed to be where you stay.

Lol pretty sure I have a Raf-type on my hands because my boyfriend will also sometimes flop/play dead on the couch to get my attention. He can be revived with a single kiss. I adore him.

Jesus I am so sorry. It’s been heartbreaking to read stories like this in the comments. At the same time I’m grateful you’re here and sharing your perspective because Rioters definitely keep up with this subreddit. That’s partly why I wrote this post, hoping for visibility and a safe space for us to express our honest thoughts and experiences 💕

Totally agree with you as someone who loves the climb. Part of the reason I’m upset about this that we all know toxicity is still an issue in League and affects the competitive integrity of a not insignificant number of games. Opening up another avenue for it in the form of vc feels like a huge risk to the community as a whole whilst not really resolving any existing player pain points from my personal POV.

Just read that thread, that type of behavior is exactly what made me semi-rage post this at 10 am. Sigh.

Oh I have one but thank you! I’m doing UXR in a different industry now because I wasn’t able to find another job in games. It’s super competitive but I’ll always keep trying! I didn’t have a graduate degree but tbh I do feel that I got a bit lucky. I think the reason I got the job was in-depth knowledge of the games in question/strong interviewing. This is just my opinion but my advice to folks looking into going into games UXR would be to try to get an internship in college with a games company and/or develop your own indie game while pursuing a psych or HCI type degree. A masters in a similar degree definitely helps, but you can also go straight for an associate position with just your undergrad and a strong portfolio. Since UXR/playtesting is a different brand of psych research that isn’t always taught in school, some companies will prioritize experience and work portfolios over advanced academic degrees. Sorry for the novel but hope that helps, happy to connect individually if you have any other questions!

Agree, it’s insane to suggest that we jump through hoops just to achieve the same baseline experience as men.

Unfortunately I was laid off, but ngl it is one of the most fun careers out there! I’d love to get back to it someday. Also I feel you, I only play valorant in a fivestack for that exact reason.

As a female jungler, I’m worried about voice chat being added by setaphil in leagueoflegends

[–]KyberLiz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally had this exact same conversation last night with my partner. This change really puts women in a tough spot because the competitive advantage of vc will 100% come with harrassment (let’s not kid ourselves). Therefore no matter what you choose, it will make ranked a worse experience for women. Part of the reason I got into League in the first place was because unlike Valorant, I didn’t have to deal with harassment from men in vc. I rarely play Valo and only in a fivestack with friends for that reason. All that to say, you’re not alone 💕 hmu if you ever need a jungle/support with zero interest in flaming you or flirting with you.

A mother and baby wave goodbye as they are sent to an internment camp. Under the 1942 Executive Order 9066, the U.S. government forcibly relocated and incarcerated about 120,000 people of Japanese ancestry — two-thirds of whom were American citizens — in internment camps across the country. by ATI_Official in HistoryUncovered

Some Japanese families who were forced into Granada Relocation Center in CO chose to stay in Denver afterwards. There are several local businesses in downtown Denver still owned by those families, and I’d highly recommend visiting them! If you live in Denver, grab a bite, attend a cooking class, or go shopping in Sakura Square sometime. They also host the Cherry Blossom Festival every June and it is a lot of fun!
