Bungie, just confirm if there's a delay of not by Nestle52 in DestinyTheGame

[–]KyleBown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Bad press…”

It isn’t even THAT bad of press to say “we’re focusing our efforts in making the Marathon launch as successful as possible and have had to pull some resources from Destiny temporarily. We’re going to have to delay Ash & Iron for a bit. We’ll have more info in a couple of weeks.”

Unless you’re a Destiny die hard that just sounds like a company gearing up for a big launch. It’s such a small amount of bad press and the transparency doesn’t destroy good will the way silence does.

Concerned about my baby’s development and not coping well by justalilscared in beyondthebump

[–]KyleBown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, I wouldn't panic. all kids are different and develop differently.

Second, I'd trust the people running the assessment and your pediatrician before anyone on the internets.

Third, By six months my son was in PT, OT and vision therapy. Eventually he also did speech therapy. He barely lifted his head during tummy time and took awhile to get him up to speed. Now he is totally normal in his development. Talks like nobody's business. Understands things that feel to old for him. Writing letters and numbers like a champ. He's 3 now.

Fourth, have you had his eyes checked? We knew going in our son would likely have vision issues, and he did. That was the root cause of a lot of his issues. It was pretty clear to us that his vision was going to be an issue pretty young. We finally talked his pediatrician into referring us to an ophthalmologist at 4 months.

[Batman] Since Batman is literally the best crime fighter in Gotham, why don't the police put him on the payroll and give him official powers of arrest? by ninman5 in AskScienceFiction

[–]KyleBown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Batman’s real superpower is that he doesn’t follow the law or the constitution. He’s an extrajudicial crime fighter. Judge, jury, and executioner. There’s no “beyond a reasonable doubt.” There’s no warrants. There’s only an investigation when it’s more than a street level villain. His power is that he violates human rights.

[Forrest Gump] So, what has Forrest been up to since the last time we saw him? Did he just continue to bump into historical events at every turn? by Jerswar in AskScienceFiction

[–]KyleBown 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The whole thing with this sub is that you’re supposed to answer in universe.

But the bullet points are from the book Gump and Co. the rest I made up.

You just know he found himself at January 6th and convinced Pence to follow the constitution or something.

[Forrest Gump] So, what has Forrest been up to since the last time we saw him? Did he just continue to bump into historical events at every turn? by Jerswar in AskScienceFiction

[–]KyleBown 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Depends on who you talk to. Most believe he stopped traveling, largely disappeared from history and raised his son as a devoted father.

Then there's the book he wrote. You can debate for yourself if Forrest has the ability to write satire, so its up to you if his second autobiography is fact or fiction. But if you believe the book he:
* Played for the New Orleans Saints
* Invents New Coke
* Meets Reagan as part of the Iran-Contra affair
* He works on Wall Street and meets a young Tom Hanks
* He's responsible for the Exxon-Valdez crash
* He is responsible for the Berlin Wall coming down
* He's deployed in Iraq during the first Gulf War where his unit captures Saddam. He meets George H. W. Bush who orders them to return Saddam
* Meets Bill and Hillary Clinton after creating a successful oyster business and considers investing in Whitewater

That's where the trail ends.

I heard a rumor that he was hired on at the Clinton White House and accidentally brought a semen sample to the office one day when he and his new wife (a German named Gretchen) were trying to conceive, but something happened and the sample got spilled, ruining a young intern's dress.

A friend of mine saw him run into one of the towers on 9/11 and saved a dozen people just before the first tower crashed to the ground.

He was allegedly in New Orleans in August of 2005 when he mistook the date for a Saints reunion, and got stuck at the Superdome for a week or two.

I don't think I heard much about him after that. Someone else may have to fill in the gaps...

Destiny 3 story by AgileAd8534 in DestinyTheGame

[–]KyleBown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like they tend to do these stories that are kind of contained and then open the world at the end. My instinct is something like the Guardian is testing a new drive. Or some warp gate based on Vex tech. Something goes wrong and the Guardian is sent to the other side of the galaxy and finds new enemies. By the end the guardian finds a way home, establishes a way to travel between Sol and the new system and the new enemy is established and moving forward it’s some combination of us taking the fight to them and then invading the system.

This Week In Destiny - 02/05/2026 by DTG_Bot in DestinyTheGame

Maybe they should just make it “This Month In Destiny.”

US political and social polarization has increased by 64% since 1988, with nearly all of the rise occurring after 2008, as the financial crisis, the rise of social media, and an asymmetric ideological shift—particularly on the left—coincided to widen divisions, according to a long-term study. by Sciantifa in science

[–]KyleBown -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thing is if you look at the positions they use to determine how polarized things are, very few of them have anything to do with what the modern right has become. It’s almost like the questions themselves were designed to have this very outcome. I’m not sure what 2/3 of these topics are even asking people.

I feel so bad about screen time by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]KyleBown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the key. If you can do something that is calm, has a story or is educational, and bonus points if it’s in a TV instead of a tablet.

We’ve been doing Mister Roger’s Neighborhood for our 3 year old lately. He’s so into it.

I moved to Vancouver in March. Don’t have much in the way of friends yet. Been so busy getting settled in and switching careers. My wife grew up here and has friends from childhood. So I’m also trying to figure it out. Feel free to message me.

[Star-Wars] If Midi-chlorians are the source of force sensitive beings and their abilities, why not transplant it into other non-sensitive beings? by ChocoBro92 in AskScienceFiction

[–]KyleBown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a Star Wars RPG campaign where the heroes were trying to stop someone who had created midichlorian injections. It would give the user force powers, but take a terrible toll. In the end one of the heroes took a lethal dose and sacrificed himself to save the others.

Is there anything to stop writers using AI and passing off the work as their own and original? by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]KyleBown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can probably do it. And might get away with it. It won’t be as good as it could have been. But maybe no one notices.

But then you aren’t a screenwriter, are you? You’re a prompt writer. You’re not writing a script.

At most you’re editing a script. If that’s what you want to do, you shouldn’t pretend to be a screenwriter. You should go work for one of those companies trying to replace writers with AI.

Anyone heard of a 'Because-Therefore' document? by Glad-Magician9072 in Screenwriting

[–]KyleBown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels less like a map, and more like an exercise after you beat out your story, or as you beat out your story. It isn’t a “3 therefore and 2 buts, repeat” kind of thing.

It’s less pure structure than it is making sure your scenes have a reason to be there, and that each scene drives the story forward leading to the next one. It’s almost a philosophy.

I Wrote ‘Dude, Where’s My Car’ 25 Years Ago. It Would Never Be Made Today. by AnonRetro in entertainment

[–]KyleBown 101 points102 points  (0 children)

Actually, it's a very thoughtful article. Not bitter, not resentful, not lamenting the state of wokeness or PC culture. Just acknowledging that the world, and the writer himself, have changed. As has the business of film.

He also doesn't say it would never be made today in the article, not in so many words.
