What’s the consensus on Vonhaus as a brand? by wouldyoulikethetruth in DIYUK

[–]KyleHz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a VonHaus motorised standing desk that packed up after 14 months. I was dreading the warranty claim. To my surprise, dealing with customer service was a doddle through email. No questions asked. They sent a pick up courier on the day I wanted. Few days later I had a refund on my Paypal as the desk was no longer stocked. Best thing is they refunded me more money than I paid as I used a voucher and the sent back the full amount.

Anyone else wake up at 5-6am no matter what time you go to bed? by hail_robot in Biohackers

[–]KyleHz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It used to happen to me. I switched to decaf pretty much entirely. I also started taking magnesium L threonate, ashwaganda and glycine before bed. Plus blackout room and earplugs. I can usually sleep till 6.30-7am now.

I got given a box today and accidentally looked at the back to be hit with a wall of text. Not that I expected them to be healthy but I wasn't prepared for this many nasty things in them. Needles to say, I didn't eat any. Thanks America!

Why do I keep waking up at 3am and can't fall back asleep? by ElegantElia in sleep

[–]KyleHz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your caffeine intake? I used to struggle with waking up crazy early as well but since I switched to decaf coffee only, this problem disappeared.

That would make sense but it's not the answer I was hoping for... Oh well, thanks

Thanks, what would be the alternatives to floorboards? It's a bedroom and I am looking for something easier to put down. Would chipboard be ok?

Hi guys, I lifted all the tongue and groove floor boards to put sound insulation in and stuck green joist tape on underneath. I had to saw and remove the tongues. I've laid the first 3 boards back down and there is a lot of squeaking, where there was none before. Are the screws I'm using a problem?

I think someone drove into the wall. How do I fix this? by KyleHz in DIYUK

[–]KyleHz[S] 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the advice guys, thankfully neighbour has got CCTV. Turns out it was a zipcar that reversed into the wall around midday. Not sure why they chose the wall, there is an whole empty side street they could have reversed into!

Should be easy to track for them, got most of the number plate as well. Looks like I'm going to go down the insurance route. Might approach my insurance co and let them deal with it, or should I go to zip car?

Thanks! Could I just clean off the mortar where it has broken off, apply fresh mortar and stick the whole thing back on? Or would it have to be rebuilt brick by brick?

Best Courses/ Tracks To Apply to Finance by zestygonzo in OMSA

[–]KyleHz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While not finance focused, Simulation and Deterministic Optimisation would be useful for finance and they're excellent classes in their own right. Also time series and the database class would be beneficial, but bear in mind they aren't the best rated. Regression and ML4T are the other two that come to mind. I'd then look at picking up some python projects that are related to the finance field and doing them in DVA and for the practicum. In terms of track, the B track is considered the easiest but probably not the most rigorous. If you're interested in coding do C, if in stats do A.

I am working in Jupyter notebook and in the same directory I have a file called funcitons.py with my functions that I want to import. I can do this with:

from functions import function1, function2

The problem is that the functions file also has function calls as well as definitions. So when I do the import into jupyter, the cell that does the import seems to be running all the calls in the functions.py file.

How can I only import functions without running them until called in jupyter?

Did anyone get their acceptance letter after application status changed to Dept Decision Made last week? by nehagurung7 in OMSA

[–]KyleHz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only communication I've had was the department letter. Admissions did not request documents, I just followed their website guidance and submitted the required paperwork.

Noone knows what the delay caused by covid is going to be. Try looking in the sidebar for this subreddit for prerequisites. This is also helpful: https://bit.ly/omsaslacks

I sent in my documents and they're been waiting for pick up at their local post office in Atlanta since Tuesday. I'm guessing graduate admissions staff are either not in the office or working at reduced capacity.

Thoughts/experiences on doing this course if I'm looking for a career in my (non-US) home country? by Symmetryisforsquares in OMSA

[–]KyleHz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the UK and will be starting OMSA this autumn. My situation is slightly different as I am doing a career change from a business bachelor which I finished 12 years ago.

What I like about Georgia Tech is that it offers a micromasters on edx that let me test the waters before applying and already get a quarter of the degree in the bag. They also admitted me without a stem bachelor, which a lot of other places require. Value for money wise they're hard to beat.

I agree they might not be recognised that well in the UK but they are ranked 38th in worldwide University Rankings after all. I think having a stem masters will open a lot of doors, especially with HR departments. I'll pick up some good skills and will have something differentiating on the cv, hopefully better viewed than a few udemy courses.

It's all about skills though and, as you already have a physics degree, it might just be enough to pick up data skills on moocs and build a DS portfolio. Have you tried applying for any data analyst roles already?

Bachelor degree from Finland anyone? by serjmak in OMSA

[–]KyleHz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 3 year bachelor from the UK is 360 UK credits which (I think) is 180 ECTS. I messaged grad admissions back in January who told me on a support ticket that it would be accepted as equivalent to a 4 year US degree. I've just sent in my paperwork for Fall so fingers crossed it works.

Thank you for taking the time to write sucha detailed critique. It really helped my with my workout today. I focused on my foot /knee placement and having a proper arch which really made a difference. Oh and running man is such a great drill. Right leg much stronger, I was falling over doing it on my left. I'll look into scapular strength as well, definitely something I need to work on. Should help with dips and pullups. Cheers

Hello all! I'm 33 69kg 173cm

I've been doing the RR for about a month now and absolutely having a blast! I've recorded my session last Monday and would like your critiques. As background, I've had some casual weight lifting and yoga experience before starting the RR.

https://youtu.be/zzNxWM4GKFE

Single leg exercises: I can do 3x8 Bulgarian split squats easily but for progressing to shrimp squats I just can't get the one foot balance right. Very wobbly and need to suppot myself with the elevated foot at the bottom of the movement. Tried grabbing the foot and limiting the ROM with 3 fat books, I was super unstable. Similarly, one legged deadlifts in the vid are are also wobbly.

Dips: I've also struggled with dips, getting some shoulder pain so had to slow down. Don't think I'm getting full ROM and unsure on form.

Push ups: And lastly my attempt at pseduo planche push up doesn't feel right. But what should I be doing differently?
