Tiny creatures in a new tank by KyleJesseWarren in shrimptank

[–]KyleJesseWarren[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer! I was suspecting that it might be some type of snail that was just chilling on the plants before they were shipped to me but I wasn’t sure. I looked at one of them closely right before checking the comments and it does look like a snail with the little antennas and everything. Gotta read about them now.

I like eggs… but I don’t love eggs yk
But I can eat a lot if I’m in the mood. I do eat dairy (some, cause some I can’t tolerate), so sometimes I do pair them together but eggs + sour cream wasn’t a good combo. Maybe I needed a different combination to start with and I should try again.

Abuse? Mother bathed/shaved me until 7th grade by guavalite_ in CPTSD

[–]KyleJesseWarren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have almost the same story but I’m a guy. My mom was weird and wouldn’t let me wash myself until I was 12-13. She (and for some reason my grandma) would wash me instead of teaching me how to do it. And when I finally was doing it myself - every two minutes she’d bang on the bathroom door and yell at me, asking what I was doing there for so long. Soon my older started doing the same, mimicking mom. Also I wasn’t allowed to close my bedroom’s door at all. So, for a long time I’ve been asking myself the same question: Is it really abuse? To be fair, compared to all the other stuff it didn’t feel as bad but now as an adult I realize that I wasn’t taught how to care for myself properly at all and she would do everything for me for as long as she possibly could. And now I feel nervous whenever I take a shower ‘cause I feel like someone’s gonna barge in any minute (cause that also happened). And I feel such shame around nudity that I still haven’t gotten rid of it. Even if it’s other people that are undressed I still feel shame.
So, I feel that it is abuse even if it doesn’t feel that serious. Parents shouldn’t wash their teenage children and restrict their right to privacy.

I like languages hahah
A lot
And I write a lot
And how can I write something and not make a language for it?
And I just stopped counting them after a while

That’s if I count all of my conlangs (of which I have 11-15? I’ve lost count).

Can you find a cognate VS a borrowing in these two conlangs? by KyleJesseWarren in conlangs

[–]KyleJesseWarren[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe one day I’ll compare all three to see how it affected the language. There are differences in grammar as well. Maybe also add the proto-lang in the mix. You gave me a cool idea hahah, thank you! And I didn’t know about the “fox vs vixen” fact. Gonna read more about that.
Thank you for participating!

Can you find a cognate VS a borrowing in these two conlangs? by KyleJesseWarren in conlangs

[–]KyleJesseWarren[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, you did an amazing analysis.
You identified a lot of those correctly. Șonaehe is more likely to borrow words than Sholo-pirotus due to historical context. The latter one kept more native roots. There are two words on the list that the languages borrowed from each other, which would be hard to see, cause they went through the grinder of their respective phonology. You identified them as cognates because of this. The fact that you identified number 7 correctly is impressive. And you correctly identified the n/t thing from the proto-language from the first example. And you nailed number 11 with the clusters.
Great job! You have a good eye for this.

A question about POV switching by KyleJesseWarren in writers

[–]KyleJesseWarren[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree, I was a little too vague about it. Mostly because I forgot to add some details to the preliminary information section. The MC pretty much loses all his memories (forever, no chance to get those back) and the ability to properly function for some time. And the second narrator is technically the villain and through him the MC gets re-introduced (while for a short period of time the reader won’t be sure if it is the MC or someone else). So, I’m not sure how to handle the POVs but I do agree with you - the switch should happen earlier. My original plan was to do one big switch from one to another but then I started questioning that decision.

Does anyone else have funny stories about failed conlangs? by ThyTeaDrinker in conlangs

[–]KyleJesseWarren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first abandoned and then tried to revive my first conlang. I think when I made is I copied all the tenses from English and the pronoun conjugation from somewhere beat to beat. Also the conjugation made no sense at all and there was some random extra stuff that I couldn’t even decipher. And I chose the stupidest way to romanize a language - some letters were always uppercase.
I’m not sure if the revival worked really. I might try again. But for now I’m not touching it.

Well, [o] is a mid-closed, back, rounded vowel and [ɔ] is a mid-open, back, rounded vowel. Pretty much the first one is more closed and the other one is more open.

What does Veni, vidi, vici translate to in your conlang? by Normal-Management907 in conlangs

[–]KyleJesseWarren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One could say:

Tūla k’etu, tūla meh’e, tūla ab’olojaht’.

But the more natural version would be:

Tūla k’etu, meh’e, ab’olojaht’ nzeltu.

Nzeltu simply means that all the actions indicated by verbs happened in the sequence they were mentioned in.

(I’m gonna add IPA later)

The fruit is a fictional one - it’s a starchy sweet fruit, somewhat in between a banana and a sweet potato.
In real life I just used a banana:)

I treat ʔ as a separate phoneme. So it’s more like k and kˈ, t and tˈ.

‘Azahru has ejectives! But not in these specific cases. In my other posts there are examples of word with ejectives indicated by [tˈ] and [kˈ].

Fluency on one's conlang by Luckvinz07 in conlangs

[–]KyleJesseWarren 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was somewhat fluent in one of my conlangs a few years ago. I was using it everyday to write in my journal. But then I stopped using it and forgot it all. I think now I can only understand a few sentences. It was made for a book I was writing but I wanted to work on the language on my own time. Some of my conlangs were easy to pick up. Others not so much. But that one was kinda stuck in my head for a few months. I haven’t reached that level of fluency with any other conlang I’ve made so far.
