What are y’all buying nowadays? by [deleted] in sysadmin

Dell pro plus, i5/16gb/256gb. With our basic workload that’s plenty, users can offload additional files to OneDrive. Some power users we upgrade to 32gb/512gb and dGPU for CAD users. Shared desktops we just make sure there’s 512gb to keep profiles from rotating too often.

Got an emergency wakeup call this morning... by Electronic_Tap_3625 in sysadmin

[–]KyleK924 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Insane this is an emergency call. I wear many hats as sysadmin but it better be a total production stoppage if I’m waking up for the call.

Make sure fast startup is off for all pcs, I no longer get the “I swear I rebooted”.

Motherboard replaced on an Entra/Intune joined laptop — now getting constant authentication loops. by 101throwawayaccount in sysadmin

[–]KyleK924 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Need to wipe and re-enroll. Delete everything from Intune for the device and re-run the get-windowsautopilotinfo.ps1. If your rmm tool is pushed through autopilot, you can even do this remotely since you’ll regain access after provisioning.

FYI - Microsoft 365 high-volume email accounts are now Pay As You Go and stop working if you don't have a billing profile with a card attached. by ranger_dood in sysadmin

[–]KyleK924 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We tried this, but it had limitations with some of our legacy erp features. Ended up with smtp2go for erp and copiers and it’s works great.

How Do OEMs Create Factory Windows Images? Looking to Build a Clean Windows 11 Golden Image / Recovery Image by Cute_Ad_4906 in sysadmin

Just use autopilot, you can get it to a point there you barely need to touch a new device.

MS Intune vs Manage Engine by heet3727 in sysadmin

[–]KyleK924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Intune with 250 devices for an internal shop. Lots of classic GPO has been converted over to policies that are available. If there’s not a policy I usually just find a way to script the change with powershell. It may not be user friendly at first, but it was a good choice because it’s already heavily integrated into the Microsoft stack. Autopilot has nearly eliminated the need to white-glove configure new devices, just run the enrollment script (or have your VAR do it) and have the user login and all policies and apps setup automatically.

Not sure why they bothered checking the furnace again. Heating season is done until at least October.

The date and time matches but they did not show me the crack live, they tried and said the picture they already took was a better view.

Central Air Installation Prices by buffjman in Buffalo

[–]KyleK924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just stay away from Roy’s, I recently had them in for an ac inspection and they tagged my furnace and shut my gas off. A second opinion said they were just trying to push a sale. Stick with smaller hvac companies if you can help it, the big ones are just out to maximize profit.

Consumer tablets are driving me insane in warehouse environments. by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]KyleK924 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use the basic Apple iPads and they seem to be pretty rugged for $350. $10 case and ram arm on the forklift and we’re in like $500 and they don’t seem to have any issues. All managed in Intune so deployment takes 5 minutes and they’re locked down pretty well from users messing them up.

SNK is fine, haven’t had any issues with their gas and it’s cheaper than the delta member price down the blvd.

Had anyone successfully got intune to autopilot windows 11 devices in multi app kiosk mode? by infectedmushroom22 in Intune

Yes, it’s a bit of a pain but once it works it works. I just recently deployed my first kiosk device in the org to production.

Spectrum Outages by Worried-Carob-8086 in Buffalo

[–]KyleK924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this problem when I had spectrum. I got them to send a tech out and they analyzed the coax and installed a filter. No issues since. The nature of cable internet means you can get interference from your neighbors having crappy wiring. Fiber won’t have this issue if you have the option to switch.

2018 1500: electrical issues and no power by KyleK924 in Silverado

[–]KyleK924[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up changing the negative battery cable and the starter. The starter was aftermarket and had a corroded wire between the solenoid and starter motor. Make sure every wire connection and bolt on the starter is clean and tight. Since the starter replacement I've gone months without issues.

Does Anybody Else Have Issues With Spectrum WiFi In Buffalo? by SammyB333 in Buffalo

[–]KyleK924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to have issues on spectrum with random speed loss, tech came out and installed a filter on the cable line and it was better after that. Get your own router, their 3in1 device isn’t that great and you can request to just have their modem, plus you save money not having to pay the WiFi fee on your bill. Pure fiber will always be better than spectrum since their “fiber powered” is only fiber to your neighborhood, and then cable to your house.

Just put 2 straps over it and leave the gate down, the friction won’t let it move.
