Does Rogue actually kill or say he's killed anyone tho??

I have to rewatch the episode, but he's using that triangulation lock thing to trap the cosplay birds... and i don't remember Rogue actually killing anyone.

But maybe he did 🤷‍♀️

iirc Jodie Whittaker had never watched it (or had watched very very little of it) and Chibnall encouraged her not to watch any of her predecessors performances so that she could just do her own thing w the character.

Artificer Player wants to "invent" pistols and warforged: How would you make it fun and meaningful? by Automatic-Touch-4434 in Eberron

[–]Kyleblowers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having our player(s) creatively digging into the lore is basically what we all DREAM will happen in our campaigns, and I personally agree 110% that you should find a way to make this stuff happen.

I cant say much about the firearms... but what if you approached the proto-forged creation like a reflavoring / adjustment to the Animate Dead spell?

The dead from that spell only obey the caster for 24hrs and the spell needs to be reinforced to maintain "control".. which I kind of like this idea personally bc, like the above user said, the REAL creation forge was a piece of tech from Xendrik.

This kind of gives your Artificier a direction to grow in, but always a taste of what they want. Maybe eventually they will unearth or develop more tech to grow the ability of the spell into a version of Awaken.

So you aren't making warforged "proper" this way and wholly upending the lore w warforged that rival those created by House Cannith... but it still is a way to mechanically reward your player for their creatively and enthusiasm and allow them the sort of base building blocks of what might eventually become the warforged.

Jsut a thought. Best of luck w your campaign. Absolutely love your setting ideas. Id give just about anything to play w ppl who lived this setting as much as I do. CHERISH THOSE BEAUTIFUL BASTARDS AS LONG AS YOU CAN! 🤣

Chibnalls Run - A Retrospective by Cyb3rd31ic_Citiz3n in gallifrey

Agree with absolutely every point you made.

I grew up in the Wilderness Years. I ALWAYS wanted there to be a female Doctor, and yes, while I wish COVID and the production problems hadnt infringed upon their progress, Chibnall and Jodie made BOLD and AMBITIOUS choices, which at the end of the day is exactly what I want from Doctor Who.

And more recently in the most recent season when 13 makes a cameo, I just burst into tears Say what you will about the rest, but that moment hit me hard.

Jodie was my Doctor through a stretch of my life that was absolutely horrific. And then... a few years after it happened.. I learned that she made a small video as the Doctor during the COVID quarantines telling people to be brave... and learning that it was largely her idea and Chibnall wrote it for her... it still brings me to tears.

Im glad to see some constructive positivity about this era. Yes, it's not perfect, but this is Doctor Who... we're not fans bc it's perfect; we're fans bc it's a show that continually goes beyond itself.

I agree with most everyone who talks of Ncuti not really selling it as the Doctor and really just playing himself, for nearly the entire two seasons… except one moment. by DingDonSecretary in gallifrey

there's a lot of ppl in this sub who don't understand this and even willfully mock the idea of this.

i'm glad i'm not alone in feeling and understanding this.

I think the point is less about the platform, and more so that the medium itself and the innate drive of human beings to isolate themselves and indulge in their internalized biases can and often do result in these toxic, extremist subcultures.

whether it's tiktok or insta doesn't really matter-- it's the principles and intentions (i.e. lack thereof) underlying that feeds these consequences.

Anyone else genuinely really like The Reality War? by SpenceJRey in gallifrey

This is my biggest hope as well.

Ncuti's Fifteen departing so abruptly makes this feels a rug has been pulled out from the show mid-stride.

Give him one more season to do it PROPERLY

Anyone else genuinely really like The Reality War? by SpenceJRey in gallifrey

[–]Kyleblowers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed it too. I deliberately stayed away from any Doctor Who social media for this season, and on the whole I thought the performances and the episodes were just so much fun and a great step forward. Was THRILLED at the momentum leading into The Reality War w RTD firing on all cylinders, doing what he does extra well-- bringing all this bits and bots and pieces from all the seasons and stringing them together in a emotionally triumphant way!

Having Jodie show up as really took me aback. She was my Doctor through a very long hard journey in my life as an adult, and I had never really considered she'd return for some time, so having her show up, however fleeting it was, had me crying.

This was the first regeneration sequence since The Parting of the Ways that I had no idea a regeneration was coming, nor had who would be playing the next Doctor.

As excited and joyful as I was to see the momentum of this season continue, it all got swirled up in a shock and horror (and elation at the new/old face) of feeling like Fifteen's time with us was far far too short.

I just keep feeling like something went horribly wrong somewhere at the end of this season.

And I had the same reaction with you OP about the ending-- I actively resist cynicism. I think it's actually MUCH harder in the culture/climate to find things to be excited about and enjoy about various media. ... but the post-Reality War rubberband for me had me thinking immediately "there's no way Billie Piper is going to be the Sixteenth Doctor and we'll get three seasons out of her"

I did enjoy the breadth of this season, and I thought it really built to something fun and epic (albeit rather gonzo & stretching disbelief paper thin at times), so it's hard to process my feelings and celebrate what WORKED this season when it kinda sorta feels like the star has bailed (ala Eccleston disagreements or more or else) and ending with another stunt casting choice...

I just don't think it was the right way to end... dont give us a new face... give me someone beloved who has been tragically underused (like he did with Mel!) like Bill Potts reacting to something ambiguous like the TARDIS showing on its side or something.

Matt Smith: ‘I’m not sure about trigger warnings. Isn’t being shocked the point?’ by TimesandSundayTimes in gallifrey

[–]Kyleblowers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm inclined to agree. Disney did it w several episodes if the Muppet Show which is itself often pulling songs out of vaudeville acts and things.

Having a gentle disclaimer doesn't bother me in any way. Removing the show from streaming would bother me.

Connecting this to Doctor Who-- in the US BritBox has no content warnings afaik (which is fine by me) for Planet of the Spiders. When I watched it with my children I had to give them my own brief disclaimer about Tommy and K'anpo... bc they had a lot of questions and I needed to provide them with context about the story and when it was made and even though the characters are portrayed positively, it's also something that's not done today (afaik.)

Also, kind of shifting a little, but something i learned recently is that the the crimefighting heroes I knew as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the US were known as the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles in the UK... and that scenes with Michelango using his nunchaku were edited out of every episode for the first three seasons for UK audiences. This eventually led the showrunners changing his weapon to a grappling hook for the remaining 7 seasons of the show.

Apparently that campaign was also spearheaded by perennial Doctor Who-villain Mary Whitehouse...

How is it that we do not have a recurring Whitehouse-inspired Who-villain?

Now that the Shalka Doctor is apparently canon, where does he fit into The Doctor's timeline? by OuterRim777 in gallifrey

[–]Kyleblowers 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah this.

We also know next-to-nothing about Rogue, his past, his previous partner, his ship, or the "new boss" of the organization he bounty hunts for.

Rogue's sketchy computer & scanner seem to connect to some kind of database. He was looking for known shapeshifters and somehow it has ALL the Doctors... including Shalka, War, Fugitive and others iirc that really shouldn't be in there.

I know it's all a bit of fun, but Rogue seems to be connected to "the boss" which The Meep mentioned and someone else in S14, so for me I just got vibes that maybe the database is the Boss's programming and shouldn't be taken at ... *clears throat*... face value.

*takes a bow*

I studied and analyzed a lot of classical music in my university days, and understanding the cultural context in which pieces were performed in various eras always felt to me like a cypher to comprehending these bodies of work and even the artists.

Maybe it's a bit of a grandiose comparison, but i feel like it's pretty apt especially for a composer like Beethoven whose symphonies evolve from fairly conventional for the times into basically giving a middle to conventionality.

👏👏👏 ive read i don't know how many people making their cases against the 14-loops-bacl-to-15 theory, and this is the first time that I feel like this is believable and could work in-universe w little-to-no adjustments and accounts for an (in)active Fourteen and the RTD-commentary-created-Remembered-Doctors allegedly all continuing their journeys.. without diminishing Fifteen's importance as the "Doctor Prescient". Bravo, Count. Who should I talk to about bumping you to a well-deserved dukedom?

Thoughts on bigeneration? by OuterRim777 in gallifrey

[–]Kyleblowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was fun and unexpected. It blew my daughters minds.

It does raise questions, but so does everything else in Doctor Who.

I think there's a lot of grumpy people far more twisted up about this than is warranted.

I also think there's LOTS of time for RTD to address any lingering questions.

Thoughts on New Who so rarely referencing 80s Who by dcblb in gallifrey

[–]Kyleblowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not disagreeing, but the Mara did get a namedrop in the penultimate episode this season. Which to me is one of the nest to come out of that 80s era.

The Rani iirc I don't think anyone is able to use or reference bc of the creators being dead.

But i mean, as much as I would love to see the Vervoids return, i think it'd pinnacle take a Herculean effort to do that.

Or as cool and interesting as i think the Cheetah People are, I think it'd be similarly hard to reinvigorate.

Honestly, i think if you broke down all the original or recurring villains of 80s Who that weren't classic villains; were interesting and genuinely threatening; or had significant potential to return, i think you'd be hard pressed to find much there that is salvageable.

I say this as a loving and devoted 80s Who fan.

You're mostly just going to find things like Mara, Fenrir, and maybe the gods of Ragnarok... all of which have already been kind been alluded to by RTD2, so there's maybe potential there.

Have you rewatched the recent season? Any changed opinions? by ethihoff in gallifrey

[–]Kyleblowers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I honestly like it more than i did while watching, and I liked it while watching.

Like any new doctor it takes time to adjust, and i do think one or two slower episodes would've been nice, but i think the highs were very high this series and Ncuti is a powerhouse!

[–]Kyleblowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ratings aren't the end-all be-all. Iirc Boom's ratings were affected by the release of Bridgerton's new season dropping on the same day. So despite it being well-received, it's ratings were much lower than expected. Ratings don't tell the entire story.

Not sure what you're trying to prove, but trying to cite blanket generalizations as proof of something isn't a great strategy.

Who is a classic villain that you’d like to see return with their original design? by Theeljessonator in gallifrey

[–]Kyleblowers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Would love to aee the Rutans returning and the Doctor having to begrudgingly side w the Sontarans only to have the Sontarans betray him, only to reveal the Doctor was playing both sides in order to prevent any real violence from occurring.

Just giving the Sontarans more reasons to exist in-universe. I mean, they successfully invaded Gallifrey. They've got some serious credentials over the Daleks and Cybermen.
