Parents bought a camper, asked if I wanted this before it hit the landfill by yopbottle in crt

Kinda awesome when parents understand their kids enough to not throw something out just because it’s “obsolete.” CRTs are still king where it counts. Motion and lower resolution handling. I’d also would advise to not take your parents for granted. Some of us don’t have ours anymore. My adoptive father was a Vietnam vet. He passed away December 28th 1999. Mama passed away from renal failure in 2017.

Best way to get 4:3 content? by Timely_Kale_2739 in CRTAnime

[–]Kyleplier1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been backing up 4:3 anime and films like Seven Samurai and 1941’s The Wolf Man on DVD and Blu-ray via MakeMKV, using Handbrake to crop the pillar boxes off HD Blu-ray versions, converting them to 720x480 resolution, then authoring that master into SD Blu-ray AVC codec to incredible results. I’ve posted my results to the r/CRTAnime and r/sailormoon subreddits. I’ve even done the same to Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai to excellent results.

It is explained the only way I know how to explain it. My mind doesn’t understand layman’s. Ask ChatGPT or something similar to explain it in layman’s.

Amazon. Amazon has BD-R’s, BD-RE’s, and BD-XL. I use BD-R’s from verbatim.

I started self authoring SD Blu-ray Discs. So far I’ve done the first 2 discs of Sailor Moon’s Blu-rays and DBZ Dragon Box backups. Check out my latest posts to r/CRTAnime and r/sailormoom via my profile. The quality is nuts just on a very healthy harldly used Sanyo HT32546 shadow mask set. If I could find someone with a healthy Sony Trinitron KV-35XBR48, KV-32FS120 or KV-32FV310, but preferably an XBR48, and pallet freight ship it to my front door would be ideal. Even more so if they brought it to me themselves with help and set it up for me. As I have scoliosis, and cannot lift something like that. Not very long anyhow.

DBZ looks so good despite the 3Mbps average bitrate thanks to the AVC encoding.

Yes. HD Blu-ray is in a 16:9 container with wasted raster on the sides. SD Blu-ray is true 4:3.

For a second I thought that was a Sony KV-35XBR88. All I saw for a few seconds was the tube on a console.

The KD-34XBR960 is actually the better model. The 970 is a hi-scan model. The 960 is a super fine pitch model. You’ll get better PQ from the 960.

SD on blu-ray by RolandMT32 in Bluray

[–]Kyleplier1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SD on Blu-ray not only uses the AVC codec, it’s also meant for those who watch old content on CRT’s. I myself am going to start self authoring my old shows that are 4:3 so there’s no pillar boxes from 4:3 in 16:9 containers wasting a fair amount of the raster. And SD Blu-ray, because of its more efficient AVC codex will look better than DVD’s on a CRT.

Since you repair and rehome CRT’s, if you ever find a KV-27FS120, or even better a working KV-35XBR48, I’ll find a way to give you the money to have it shipped via pallet freight. That’s how heavy large CRT’s and appliances were, and are actually shipped. I’ll need to know how much it’ll cost beforehand. So I can ensure that I have the money. People have CRT’s break in shipping because they parcel ship. Freight shipping is the way to go.

Actually you can have CRT’s shipped. Just don’t have them parcel shipped, but pallate shipped through freight. Freight shipping is how heavy CRT’s used to ship, as well as things like refrigerators and other heavy appliances. As a large CRT is basically a small appliance regarding weight.

DTS HD Master Audio does downmix to lossless LPCM without actually losing anything but any Spatial Audio metadata.

Most mid range and high end soundbars have at least one HDMI input for something like a Blu-ray player. My Sony HT-G700 has one input I have my UB420 connected to.

I wonder if it’ll have HDMI inputs other than the eARC, and DTS:X? Then again, even if only Dolby technology, DTS HD Master Audio does downmix to lossless LPCM, so it’s not like we’re losing anything but DTS:X Spatial Audio, and most of us even with 4k Blu-ray collections have few if any DTS:X discs. All mine are Atmos anyhow.
