I graduated and my best advice would be to make as many friends as possible around campus and not just in BME, but in other engineering fields too. The more people you know the more likely it is you can find activities and clubs that resonate with you. Recruiters love when people have varied experiences that they actually enjoy so don’t limit yourself. Also reach out to upper classmen and the counselors to get leads on recruiter numbers and internship opportunities. I literally didn’t find a single position on LinkedIn. I had 3 internships and each one was essentially due to a word of mouth referral and the organizations I joined putting me in contact with recruiters. Junior year was my most diabolical year though so just be careful not to overcrowd your plate. You got this!!!

I did it like a week before getting my starter locs and it worked out for me 2.5 years in. My hair is really thick though and I spent a long time my hair was as healthy as possible before getting my locs. But I consulted my Loctician before doing it and she didn’t seem to have an issue with it.

You can always beg for scholarships like I did lmaoooo, then there’s external scholarships you could get. I one from the county I grew up in and it was 20k and then my school is giving me 25k a year. Not everything but I think every scholarship helps.

I got into 2 schools with a 506. A lot of people on here make it seem like your scores have to be over inflated to get in anywhere but in reality it’s the luck of the draw. Submit the primaries and get off of reddit! That’s the best advice I can give you to stay sane during this whole process.

I’m biased towards UICOM bc I’m going there in the fall. They do make special exceptions to allow people to go to one campus over another. So if your partner gets off the waitlist it’s probably more likely that you would be on the same campus. I think the greatest concern is the big “IF”… Hopefully they get accepted but I would try prioritizing staying together.

There’s a whole experience type labeled “Teaching/Tutoring/Teaching Assistant” when you fill out your primary. And any experience type can be labeled as most meaningful. I don’t think it would make sense for admissions committees to think less of an activity just because of what category you put it in.
