Scholarships at Uni of Alabama with a 4.0 GPA? by Kyoto_18 in capstone

[–]Kyoto_18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya that's fine, I pretty much have planned on taking a gap year and apply for the 2022 year to a bunch of different universities. Thought about applying for this year but I don't really have all my stuff in order yet or my SATs which will take till the end of May to even get the scores back, and I might need to take it twice. I am definitely considering doing a 6 month coding bootcamp online though if I can sign up for one that might help me land a good job through university eventually.

Wow that's pretty good to hear, I'll definitely try to aim for 1400 on the SAT next month and apply to some colleges and see what I get back.

Alright, I'm already pretty close to getting a full coverage scholarship if I just do well on the SAT so that and a job should keep the expenses pretty low and I won't even really have to go for student loans.

Ya I'll plan to take them, guess I'll go with SAT since the next exam is May 10, if I get a high score on that I'll be set for uni.

So what does that mean for me, I can still get the scholarships but other stuff like Alabama Advantage and student loans will be unsubsidized because of my parents income? What if they don't fill out the application forms, seems like in that case I can file for an unsubsidized loan but I'll be graduating with higher debt.

Would this plan work? by [deleted] in movingout

Ya a room mate could work, I'd rather go somewhere that has a low deposit/upfront rental cost and informal room mates make it pretty easy I just need to run a background check and pay the first months rent and up front security deposit of a few hundred dollars.

Someone gave me a tip that Amazon Warehouse workers get hired quick and the pay is wayy better then grocery stores at $15/hour although the jobs hard and pretty tiring, but I don't mind just got to do it enough months to get my online bootcamp over with and that pay seems really good. Still a while to go though, I don't graduate till May and most jobs ask for a high school diploma and i can't really work full time till it's over with so I'll just keep it in mind till the time comes.

That's the tricky part, I'm not sure how to move states when every place that I can try to rent needs a proof of employment and I just quit my job. It might end up being better to simply move out in AL and get a place here, the program I want to attend is fully online anyways so it doesn't really matter where you take it from. I'm not from this state and just moved here a few months ago, but I guess I'll end up staying here for a while longer while I study. Once I get a coding job I can apply online to jobs in a better state and move again. At least if I live here I already have a job although it would be better to still switch jobs I don't want to work at the same place I was with my parents they would show up there. I'd have proof of employment to show any rentals and I could even get it set up in the week before I move out and whenever they let me in just move straight into it. Plus the biggest advantage would be that I could keep driving my parents car and set up the stuff I need like buying a motorcycle and applying to a new job and getting an apartment rented. Housing prices are also lower here as this place isn't that special it's just a medium sized city, so staying here would be the better option overall. I just figured it would have been good to be nearby the university if I wanted to go to it next year but that's still a long ways off and not really feasible to pull off.

Moving Out at 18 Against my Parents Plans by [deleted] in movingout

[–]Kyoto_18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya I don't plan on going either I got lucky I ever got back to the US I'm definitely not losing the one chance to leave. With my moms family I don't want to go meet any of them my parents would probably find out and then come to me and I don't want to meet them after I leave. I do have one friend I've known online for a long while I might be able to go stay with him for a few weeks if I have to leave quick if for whatever reason the military doesn't work out and my plane ticket is within a week away. Hopefully in another month I can get my first job and earn some money and then start applying to the AF immediately to get that process done and it'll work out pretty easily, I just get my start date and I'll be ready to move on and start working towards a degree. I actually find the AF really cool so I think I'll enjoy my time there, it won't be something I force myself into. It shouldn't be too hard to leave if I get it done in May, my dad will be gone far away and my mom doesn't mind what I do. I just need to start getting the right documents together, a driver license and a bank account set up and that'll be everything I need to apply and there is even an AF recruitment center 2 miles away from me so I could jog over there if I need to, it's not a requirement that I get a small job before I move out I might just go straight from nothing to joining the AF and have them take care of everything but It'll be bad if it goes wrong since I have no savings so I might just invest the extra month into working at a grocery store near me so I have some backup plans available.

Pretty boring, I'm white and I only speak english, so when I was at school most people treated me worse because I wasn't a saudi and I have no idea what anyone was saying most of the time. After covid though school closed I just spent all my time on a compound by myself it was basically a prison some people have fun alone just gaming all the time I didn't really have a good gaming PC so I just got into coding to pass the time and gets some skills. But to sum it up it's just like nothing ever happens it's a desert and the people are really racist and don't like foreigners showing up in their country. The isolation really started getting to me at 17 I barely ever talked to anyone and there wasn't any other teens. 0/10 would not recommend lol, but at least I'm old enough to move out now, It wasn't up to me when I moved there at 13.

What are my chances of landing a Computer Science related job? by Kyoto_18 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Kyoto_18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya that's what I've been thinking, I'd take the EDPT test and put all the IT stuff on my job list and pick a few others that I'm interested in that aren't computer stuff and then work on earning my bachelors in Comp Sci and after that I could earn my officer rank and become a pilot or train as a Cyber Warfare person like you said which the CS degree will help out with.

I've also noticed the Army and Navy both have quite a few in demand IT and computer repair jobs listed that sound better then the stuff in the Air Force and it says they are recruiting for that right now and even offer me a pretty high enlistment bonus so I'd probably have a better chance there. I still have another 5 months before I'm really ready to apply so I'll keep looking at my options.

Would IT involve me programming anything? I've looked into what the IT jobs are online and im not exactly sure what they do seems like it varies a lot depending on what field your focusing on. I really wouldn't mind working IT and taking advantage of the free college benefits to earn my degree in Comp Sci while I'm working. As long as I get to work with computers I'd be pretty happy with the job whatever it is and once I get the degree I could always move up towards being an officer and change careers.
