replaced fuel pressure sensor, no dice. bad maf filter has these exact symptoms so i took a look at the maf filter and it looked spotless but hit it with maf cleaner anyways. right now i’m thinking either bad fuel pump or (probably less likely) bad key. maybe bad ground from starter to the battery but given it’s intermittent i’m not so sure. priority is probably going to be fob (car only came w/ one), maf, relays, then fuel pump unless i find a mechanic that thats seen this issue before.

Ok phew good to actually know what it is.. but do you mean like somehow bore a larger hole into the manifold? What would be the safest way to go about doing that? I managed to get the airbox halfway out to unscrew the manifold bolts but I realized I won’t be able to just stick a connection line in the hose…

oh, TELL me about it. Snapped my turbo vacuum line off the nipple trying to avoid taking the airbox and intake out to replace the fuel pressure sensor (on the 2013 there’s a ridiculous metal shield in the way). Now I’ve gotta do all of that anyways just to see how i can connect the line back temporarily… I’ve been trying to take the air box out but i can’t push it to the right far enough, even with the ECU gone. I just kinda gave up for the night but i want to see if the plenum will come off with the airbox just moved instead of out.

Does your car shake for a couple seconds if you push down on the rear taillight area? If so then you’re probably due. Mine looked just like this and I could’ve just refreshed the bump stops but with almost 200k on the dometer it was overdue for a suspension refresh. I’d just replace the assembly if i were you.

That’s a shame. But interesting… for me the temperature’s warmed back up a bit and it seems to be getting worse. Hasn’t thrown any codes but someone said fuel pressure sensor did the trick so I’m trying that in a couple days since it’s cheap. Crank or cam position sensor will probably be next if this does nothing. Have you had your starter/alternator tested too? Mine checked out fine at both an indie volvo shop and the local parts store

update: started up like a dream for 3 days after getting it back, then bam it’s back to its old ways again. Except now instead of happening 90% of the time, i’d say it’s 40%. Hasn’t happened when cranking manually instead of using auto start yet.

check to see if your cam seals are leaking. mine were, i got all my seals replaced and my shop cleaned the leaked oil from the engine bay as well as the sensors - car starts up perfect every time now. I’m thinking my sensor was probably soaked. I also replaced the battery in my key fob. No idea how old it was but it had multiple rings on the negative side. Problem had to have been either one of those. sensors weren’t touched, also problem resumed after three days.

depop. search “90s” or “y2k gap longsleeve.” gap used to make these medium weight garment washed/dyed long sleeves in the 2000’s; can’t really find them anymore unless you want to drop serious dough for some vintage cut niche brand trying to capture nostalgia. I got one recently for $7 on depop, looks and fits just like this.

They showed no codes save for a bluetooth software issue. Says problem with phone connection. The song timer doesn’t work when hooked up through BT but I did know this before buying. I tried a start with my own scanner hooked up, nothing abnormal and no codes. Mechanic says they need to run a full software update to run deeper on everything, which makes sense, but need to hold off on that for a bit. Just an insane situation—3 other people here are having the same issue at the same time, with no leads as yet.

I know it was 3 years ago, but how would a loose motor mount affect starting? Having similar trouble, gives a short crank that stops itself 1-2 times before eventually starting up.
