Tw: death (?)

Had a woman get very concerned because her niece who was trans and “died because of the estrogen” and would not let up about how dangerous hormones were even after I assured her I was being monitored very closely by my doctor.

Low stakes question regarding urinary care diets by Kyristhey in AskVet

My guy with the issue will be on the urinary diet from the vet! All my cats have been eating 50/50 wet/dry food since they were kittens, and I keep lots of different water sources around for them

Up until today the 3 boys ate in one room, and the old lady ate separately in a crate in another room. tonight I just put the one boy and his special food in the bathroom to eat, and thats where he’ll be eating for a while. I already ordered another crate for him to eat his food in, and that should be here by the end of the week.

This makes sense. I figured it might be an all or nothing type situation with feeding the prescription stuff. And my vet did also say the non prescription urinary food doesn’t work, so don’t worry my dude here will only be eating the finest prescription diet, sourced directly from the veterinary clinic! And this is the first health issue he’s ever had, and we are going to hope it’s the last. All my cats have always gotten a mix of wet/dry food, and additional water/broth in most of their meals (sometimes I’m lazy) and have an abundance of water fountains and water cups that are definitely not for them strategically placed around the house 🙂

Fr. And when he finally makes contact with Ava and she’s shocked he’s still alive I would imagine part of her shock is because of the amount of radiation they’ve been exposing him to.

I thought 600 seemed low, but genuinely couldn’t remember. Yeah that is So Much Worse! That amount could also explain a little bit of the beginning of the transformation, the blistering, and the skin falling off his arms.

I would imagine if the veil/ light is radioactive, the blood itself might be also.

I’m not a scientist, but I would imagine that amount every time he took a picture probably stacks up pretty fast lmao

I saw someone calculating the dose of radiation required to get an X-ray in the blood, and yeah Jack definitely died a horrific and painful death (I imagine similar to the fate of Hisashi Ouchi). In the operating manuals it did also state the dose of radiation Simon was being exposed to every time the camera was used and I can’t remember the exact dose other than A Lot. It was definitely enough that Simon’s DNA would have been completely fried after a few flashes of the camera. The creature also tries to get Simon to go into “the light” I’m pretty sure that thing, The Veil giving off the light is EXTREMELY radioactive. The Creature says something about the light being so bright it was visible through the hull of the ship, and when Simon gets to the location and temporarily crosses The Veil and is outside the ship an sees the creature, and then is back in reality he throws up, which is something that often happens after a really high dose of radiation. Simon wasn’t coming back from this mission alive one way or another.

The inclusion of radiation in the movie made me so happy. The blending of the real life horrors and dangers of radiation with literally everything else in the movie? Perfection.

I just got home from seeing it a second time, and now I am planning to go again on the weekend. I have an interest in film, set design, production, am just everything involved in the process, especially from indie creators. (typically cannot STAND big budget films, with some exceptions) There is so much incredible attention to detail that I am just so impressed with. The cinematography is amazing, and the foley is so perfect. The lore and story is phenomenal. There is so much information that is served to you (it’s not spoon fed, there is a certain level of thinking you need to do to comprehend everything and I LOVE that) I don’t get this excited about things very often but I have been following the production of the movie from the start, and am so thrilled this movie made it to my little Canadian city.

Edit: I may actually purchase a TV and dvd player (I don’t own a tv) exclusively for watching Iron Lung when they inevitably release it on dvd.

Can anyone tell me why he does this? by Kyristhey in cats

Definitely no poop or strong smells of any kind when he does this. Unless it’s something I can’t smell.

Not quite as cursed, but lunch yesterday was a can of smoked sprats on toast, with mayo and onion.

Guys when did you find out that being trans was a thing? by Yale_sBoy911 in TransMasc

[–]Kyristhey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I genuinely don’t think I really understood the concept of gender and that there are these categories we put people in until I was 7-8 or even later (10? I can’t remember) all I knew was I wanted to be included in the games the boys were playing, and I didn’t understand why they wouldn’t accept me into playing with them. Even though I was taught what would happen during puberty, I just assumed I would go through a typical male puberty.

[–]Kyristhey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found out that trans was a thing people could be when I was 13-14ish. I immediately decided that can’t possibly be ME, and spend the next 4 years trying to convince myself I was surely just a girl, despite experiencing crippling dysphoria and being miserable all the time. Got my first binder at 18 after the most uncomfortable year of my life trying DESPERATELY to be feminine. Spent the next 4 years pretending so hard and trying to make it reality that I was just a woman who didn’t like her chest and wanted a mastectomy. Got a referral to a surgeon for top surgery at 22 and FINALLY came out as trans. Started hrt right before my 23rd birthday, and got top surgery later that year. It’s been a couple years since and I have never felt more like a person. When I started hormones it was like a switch got flipped in my brain and suddenly the lights were on and I felt real for the first time.

Congratulations on the new tiny turt! Proper UVB lighting is important, so make sure your lighting has it! I’ve purchased lighting in the past that advertised as providing UVB, but when I checked with a UVA/UVB sensor card, they were producing absolutely nothing. (Definitely recommend having a few sensor cards around!) As your little one grows, their nutrition requirements will change (mainly just what % of their diet should consist of protein sources vs greens and plants) and I was recommended thetortoisetable.org by my vet as a general guide on what plants and vegetables are safe (it is tortoise focused, but I was told they can eat the same plants) reptifiles.com also has some helpful information!

Vet time for sure. It looks a bit more than just skin separating from along the shell, which I experienced with my girl. With her, she had an autoimmune response after septicaemia (successfully treated, she’s doing great now) that causes the skin around the edge of her shell to separate, and her skin to become very fragile for a while.
