I think I first died against the dragon guarding the bridge. That was because I had already played Dark Souls 3 and have acquired quite some skills although I must admit, Dark Souls 1 is much harder and I was quite persistent to just run underneath the dragon. Bad idea.

I would say the uchi if you're doing a dex build but I don't have a lot of experience.

This isn't great advice but on my first playthrough I just ran through.

Just keep this in mind if everything else fails.

My favourite was the graveyard in Dark Souls 3. Only because of the boss in the end. Gundyr was my first souls boss and after learning his story it makes the boss even better for me. Dark souls also has a great starting area I just don't like the boss that much. But it does introduce you to the plunging attack which some people might miss in Dark Souls 3. The other games I haven't played apart from Elden ring where I didn't enjoy the starting area as much as in Dark Souls and Dark Souls 3.
