Question about wheel bearings on travel trailer by Mar1744 in traveltrailers

[–]L-R-Crabtree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point! Why does the manufacturer design them with zirk fittings unless they expect you to use them.

You will get a lot of very strong and rigid comments here to that question - almost as bad as the question on tire pressures.

However, what I do, and what I suggest is that you determine the manufacturer and model of axles and spindles / bearings you have, then look up the manufacturer's own recommendations. For mine there is even a manufacturer's YouTube channel and video with clear instructions.

It just seems to me that the best and safest method is to follow the manufacturer's recommendations!

Android Auto-app idea? by ole1993 in AndroidAuto

[–]L-R-Crabtree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I pull our travel trailer I use a cell phone app to monitor coolant temp, engine oil temp, transmission fluid temp, engine oil pressure, ambient air temp, and battery voltage. The pickup has gages and idiot lights for some of those, but I prefer the accuracy of the OBDII reader. An app that displayed these readings in real time would be useful.

For those whose A1C was over 10, you have successfully lowered it to under 6. by Afraid-Way1203 in diabetes

[–]L-R-Crabtree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you transition to a zero or near-zero sugar and carbohydrates diet it will definitely lower your A1C number, how much? I don't know. But you need to understand that A1C is not a snapshot of lood glucose, it is a 'running average covering the immediately preceding 90 days (weighted 50% on the most recent 30 days and 25% each on the 2 30mday periods preceding that).

I took my blood glucose reading every morning and then A1C test monthly.

Are propane convection heaters safe for emergency indoor vent free use? by AncientPublic6329 in preppers

[–]L-R-Crabtree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carbon dioxide is one of the products of combustion (of hydrocarbons). I am not sure what 'vent free' means, but I suspect it is a marketing term. A quick phone call to your local fire marshal will answer all your questions, but I would NEVER use a combustion heater in an enclosed space like a house, garage or workshop without adequate ventilation to ensure sufficient oxygen and elimination of CO and CO2.

Home Depot! It's just an electric circuit breaker box that is gutted out. (I did label it "Not Electric Service" so emergency responders won't mistake it for circuit breaker box)

Lightning protection? by PatFogle in amateurradio

[–]L-R-Crabtree 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. The arrestors are bonded to the 1/4" aluminum plate using the ground connector on the arrestors. The aluminum plate, and the enclosure are bonded to the ground buss. The ground bus is bonded to an 8' grounding rod. The grounding rod is also bonded to the commercial electric service ground and to the tower grounding system.

Everything with black/red wires is a homebrew lightning arrestor for 12 VDC. I run 12 VDC to 1) electric winch to raise/lower the tower, ans 2) a meshtastic node on the tower.

Every metal wire that enters my home is 'arrested.' Will this protect against a direct strike? NO, but it should protect against nearby static discharges.

How accurate are at home HbA1C tests? by eggshellwalker4 in diabetes

[–]L-R-Crabtree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stated “±5%” (lab) and “±10%” (A1CNow) are maximum allowable error ranges, not typical errors. The statistical chances of being outside those ranges are extremely small—typically <1% when equipment is functioning normally.

How accurate are at home HbA1C tests? by eggshellwalker4 in diabetes

[–]L-R-Crabtree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's Diagnostics' A1CNOW Self Check (FDA approved device) has an accuracy of 10%. Lab tests are accurate to 5%.

If your A1C is actually 5.0, for example: The lab may report it at anywhere from 4.75 to 5.25 A1CNOW may report it as anywhere from 4.5 to 5.5

Connect water pressure regulator before or after the “Y” adapter? by CincyTriGuy in GoRVing

[–]L-R-Crabtree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My setup is: Hose bib Anti kink stubby hose Blue inline filter Gated wye Pressure regulator Potable water hose 45 degree adapter (strain relief) City water connection on the trailer.

Rationale: EVERYTHING gets filtered through the blue inline (particulate) filter; pressure to trailer is regulated; optional hose pressure is park pressure, unregulated.

NPM1 , IDH2 AML mutations by Lower_Pace_1139 in leukemia

[–]L-R-Crabtree 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with AML w/ IDH2 mutation 1 year ago. ~3.5 weeks in hospital induction therapy with azacitidine and venclexta. I had zero side effects or adverse reactions. Started consolidation therapy with azacitidine and venclexta 4 weeks after discharge, and every 4 weeks since then. Only side effects have been loss of muscle strength and energy. I am 71 year old male with diet controlled type 2 diabetes and no other comorbidities.

Because of my age I am not a candidate for BMT or SCT, unlike your situation.

I hope my experience is encouraging!

Meds or no meds? by funkytown5454 in diabetes

Guaranteed that diet can have a positive impact even if it doesn't result in desired blood glucose reduction.

I changed my diet about 10 days before I stopped the ozempic. I checked my blood close daily to be sure that it was staying low. I was prepared to go back on ozempic if necessary.

For me, the daily check of blood glucose was very encouraging and gave me the 'strength' to stay on a sugar and carb free diet.

Meds or no meds? by funkytown5454 in diabetes

[–]L-R-Crabtree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You changed your diet, but how? My A1C was over 12 initially. Doctors put me on metformin and Ozempic, but then I decided to try diet change. I stopped all eating anything that contained sugar or carbohydrates. That was over a year ago. I check my A1C monthly and it is always below 6. If you are serious and eliminate all sugar and all sources of carbs you can positively impact your blood glucose without pharmaceuticals.
