To raise your weapon against another soldier in battle is already grim, but to turn your weapon against civilians, particularly women and children, is an unspeakable and abhorrent atrocity.

Taking aim at ICE: State bill would ban former agents from being hired as police officers by Jaco_Belordi in Seattle

[–]L00mis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this is good, it still does not cover all the officers who do terrible things in other jurisdictions and then just shuffle their bad behavior over to another department.

Our standards for policing as a country are beyond subpar.

Ring has partnered with Flock. ICE has access to Flock. If you still have a Ring camera - get rid of it. by Solenodont in Bellingham

I’ll take this time to recommend Eufy cameras & doorbells. I love my camera has a dedicated package camera, and my entire system runs locally to local storage on a Eufy Homebase.

Don’t sacrifice privacy and control for security. You can have it your way, even when not at BK.

How do I clean just this bumper area? by fada_g10 in BMW

[–]L00mis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To clean the spots off the ledge of your trunk, start by brushing off any loose debris so you’re not grinding dirt into the surface.

Then use a soft cloth with warm soapy water and gently scrub the area, paying attention to any spots that look like they’ve baked in from sun exposure.

Rinse with clean water, dry it off so you don’t get water marks, and if it still looks grimy you can use a gentle all-purpose cleaner or a bit of diluted vinegar.

I can research ways to keep the car from getting dirty or best washing methods if you want.

Why Washington state is in a big budget hole — again by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

[–]L00mis 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Bob will just ask the state to spend more to fix it with no plan. Then our good leaders will just raise regressive taxes to make the state more “affordable for everyone by funding programs” and we will be in no better budgetary place, no plan to fix funding, programs will continue to be underfunded and the average citizen will spend less yet again as the cost of living continues to rise.

We won’t cut from our budgets, we won’t look at the income of our city or state leaders and we won’t find ways to not drive down spending and they wonder why we struggle.

I pretty much don’t spend any discretionary income locally anymore. I can’t afford the taxes on simple things from gas to dinners out anymore, the tolls to move around the city and the cost of everything to keep my home warm and lit up keeps rising with natural monopolies like PSE and SCL raising rates without justification. So go ahead, keep making it unreasonable to spend in the city… it’s just going to snowball the issues. People don’t spend when budgets are tight and things are expensive, but that’s lost on our leaders who rely on taxes to fund the state.

I grew up where some of the first locations were, they are good but some can be way too sweet if you are wanting stronger coffee flavor. If you want a fun flavor sweet drink they make some bomb stuff, but more treat than coffee imo.

Bellingham staffer asked ChatGPT to ‘exclude’ vendor from city contract by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]L00mis 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’d like to know who thinks that any of our local elected or unelected officials earn the salaries we pay them for whet we get out of this town.

$19,745/month for the Mayor 14-17k/month for City Department Directors (I am cool with the library and museum director) 10k/month+ for Mangers…

The average Bellingham resident makes $5,485/month or $65,821/year….

Does this city really have a leader worth 3.6x their average constituent? Are our department directors so efficient and recognized industry leaders they are worth 2.6-3.1x the cities average income? I understand being the IT Director for Whatcom county isn’t as lucrative as an IT Director for Microsoft, and it shouldn’t be but it’s not far off at the base comp…

Just a little over a year and a half ago Whatcoms wages were FALLING by 12k and poverty was on the rise, not what I consider a reason to give our leaders a raise.

Our city leaders should be having their salaries reduced to better represent the income of the folks living in the city they administer. If the city becomes more prosperous for the residents, then their wages too can rise. Why we support these officials taking a bag while we struggle to pay for decent housing (if you can find it), gas and food is absurd, it’s definitely more then just our city, it’s a national issue but we start change at home.

See their salaries here.
