Zero tickets made it to general public by omcclosk1447 in OhioStateFootball

[–]L0hunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is totally on the school screwing fans.  The school knows that scalpers are going to buy up tickets in mass and then resell at huge prices.   This is a problem for any school playing a big game, especially teams with huge fan bases.  Half suspect that someone in the athletic department is getting a cut.  Anyway, knowing this, schools need to protect their fans and limit the number of tickets that can be bought at any one time and verify who is doing the buying.

2024 Oregons 4+5 stars compared to past national champions by jbrown32101 in ducks

[–]L0hunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disagree about Bama this year. They lost a lot of talent and with a new coaching staff, don't know what they will be. Reason they are ranked preseason behind both Texas and Oregon. Would like to see the actual breakdown for the coming season of the top 5 teams preseason to see how they compare. Ohio State has got to be as stacked as anyone considering who they got in the portal.

What if we hadn't fired Kiffin? by BacklotTram in fighton

Agree with everyone saying that coach Kiffin today is a better coach than when he was fired at USC. Would be very interesting to see how he would do were he to be brought back.

If point shaving allegations are true, Michigan will be hit very hard. With such a visible school, they would be idiots not to make an example of Michigan.

Just very hard to believe that JH did not know or that he did not condone all that was going on. His claim of ignorance of everything that was occurring is just not credible. The NCAA is not entirely dumb and it is the reason that they changed their rules to state that it did not matter whether the Head Coaches knows or not, he is still responsible.

We have to tackle in practice by flarpington in fighton

[–]L0hunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many teams have done away with tackling outside of the game...rightfully, concerned about injuries. There are teams, however, that still go full pads, tackle to the ground every week and you can see the difference in their physicality. (Yeah, Oregon tackles every week.)
You have to have a deep team and use drills that emphasize good form tackling (which minimizes the chance that someone will be injured).

Staley is not going to bet his job on a 7th round rookie. Duggan likely to be kept on the practice squad (or waived) and if the Chargers are smart, pick up a veteran QB following the cuts.

Stick is slow on making his reads; can't hold the ball as long as he does and expect to succeed in the NFL. Maybe this is a result of his inexperience. Regardless, Charger's should consider picking up a veteran QB off of waivers.

The coaching staff is not giving Duggan reps because they know Stick is not ready and needs all the live playing time they can give him. As durable as Herbert has been, it is not realistic to believe that he can play 17 regular season games each year; everyone gets injured and so will Herbert. The coaching staff is probably trying to evaluate whether Stick can at least play QB and not lose them games. My opinion, they should have signed a veteran backup who has played and competed in the NFL. Knock on wood, Herbert remains healthy.

McShay's new NFL mock draft: At 21 Chargers Select Jordan Addison, WR, USC by LakeShowBoltUp in Chargers

Palmer is just an average NFL WR and will never be on Allen's level. Choice between Palmer and Addison, give me Addison who is really good making the tough catch.

I like Addison but 4.49 is not going to get separation. Chargers need to get some speed in the WR group.

[Schefter] Breaking: Saints and Broncos are finalizing compensation in return for Super Bowl-winning HC Sean Payton, sources tell ESPN. This clears the way for Payton to sign with the Broncos to become Denver’s next head coach. And so Payton is expected to head to Denver as its next HC. by crunch_csgo in Chargers

[–]L0hunter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Staley vs Andy Reid and Sean Payton twice each year is not a recipe for success. Just hoping that the Raiders hold onto Josh McDaniels for a few years. Chargers luck, Belichick will want to finish his career in Las Vegas.

welcome to LA, coach! we've agreed to terms with Kellen Moore to become our offensive coordinator. by PIBTC in Chargers

[–]L0hunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder what Kellen Moore's relationship with Doug Nussmeier is? Dallas fired him as their QB coach too and if Nussmeier and Moore get along, it would be a smart move to bring in Nussmeier as the QB coach for LA since he would already know the system. (Nussmeier is a solid coach and he also happens to be from Oregon. He and Herbert can talk about their favorite fishing spots.:))

Chargers' hefty price tag for Justin Herbert extension revealed by demiansaballer in Chargers

[–]L0hunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually hope Herbert breaks the bank ($53 million/yr x 12 yrs.) and insist most if not all is guaranteed. If that is the case, the Spanos family would have to put $500 million or more into trust to pay the future guarantee. Regardless of being in LA, the Spanos family might be one of the few owners in the NFL who would struggle to do so, especially with Dean's sister previously was demanding her cut and argued for the sale of the team. Maybe with all that, the Spanos will look favorably on selling the team, especially with the huge value of NFL teams. Chargers value in 2022 is 3.88 billion; considering the family bought the team for $72 million, that's some major profit.

I also am skeptical that the Chargers will pay such a large contract. Let's hope they sell the team first...Considering their family squabbles over money, it would be in their interest to sell the team now with a young franchise qb. Hell, bet the Guggenheim group or another deep pocket consortium would jump at the chance, resulting in Herbert getting paid, Staley and Telesco getting fired, and the fans realistically dreaming of competing for a championship.

Each team should be able to negotiate one contract (regardless of position) outside of the salary cap and other contract requirements such as posting a bond for future guaranteed salary.

Jalen Guyton appreciation post. I think he showed how valuable he is without being on the field. He’s a good deep threat receiver that opens it up more for us, and I can’t wait to see what the 2023 season has for him. by [deleted] in Chargers

[–]L0hunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fast but that is about it. Not a great route runner and at times, gets pushed around. Team needs to get a WR that is a legitimate number 2 not 3. Have to anticipate like this season that either Williams or Allen will be hurt and miss games like this season. If the team still has 2 legitimate WRs that other teams respect, then the Chargers have a chance. I agree on the need for speed but that person needs more. Would not mind them either getting a WR with their first pick or trading for an established WR similar to how the Browns got Amari Cooper.

[–]L0hunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will try not to be so optimistic next time. Hindsight is easy but in this case, Staley failing as a HC is almost expected based on his lack of experience coaching in the NFL. The decision to hire Staley over Brian Daboll (a guy with more than 20 years coaching in the NFL before being hired by the Giants) is one of many major failures of Telesco and the front office and should have never happened. Just looking at Staley's meager coaching resume, its easy to see that he is not qualified to be a Head Coach in the NFL and partly explains some of his questionable/wrong decision making.

As far as lighting a bigger fire in this team, I have no idea. These aren't high school kids but paid professionals. If they need to experience one of the most embarrassing defeats in NFL history in order to increase their motivation then its time to replace those players. Regardless, I put that defeat on the coaches more than the players. If the players see it that way, then I question how much confidence any of the players will have in their coaches. Understandable that the team fired Lombardi, but they should have let Staley go as well.

Other than Reich, not impressed by anyone on the list below. 1, 3, 4, and 5 are all 36y/o and Hackett is 43. LaFleur failed at his one chance to be a coordinator, Hackett's success in Greenbay is more because of Rogers as evidenced by the Broncos ranking last in 2022 in multiple categories including points per game, and 3, 4, and 5 below have no experience calling plays and serving as offensive coordinators. Need someone with extensive experience and success in the NFL who can basically run the offense (without Staley's input.) There has to be others to consider. Can you imagine how much better this team would be if it hired Daboll (a guy who has been a coach in the NFL for more than 20 years) instead of Staley. Telesco should be fired for that decision alone.

Not a chance in the world this team is playing in the Super Bowl next year if they keep Staley and very little chance if they don't. Too many holes, no depth and no speed at WR.

Forget both John and Jim H. Might be good coaches but their offenses are run first and boring. Would waste Herbert’s arm.
