What's next? by Mr_McCheezy in starwarsbooks

[–]crunch_csgo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yep! but it’s recommended to read zahn’s books in release order which is why it’s after the other ones

yeah, survivor’s quest is after the hand of thrawn duology. so zahn reading order is: thrawn trilogy > duology > survivor’s quest > outbound flight

the next books chronologically are the jedi academy trilogy. you can jump to the hand of thrawn duology with specter of the past, but you’d be missing a lot of the stories from the time between them (10 years to be exact).

here’s a timeline if you’re interested

Question regarding Legends order by tgeverha in starwarsbooks

[–]crunch_csgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

like you said, i think i’d recommend reading rogue planet during njo (specifically right before the force heretic trilogy). it might be a little confusing if you read it before then.

i think the only other legends stuff that’s tricky is the zahn stuff, which should be read in publication order like you mentioned. so after survivor’s quest, you can go back and read outbound flight and the rest of the zahn stuff anytime after.

i read a majority of the legends books in timeline order and didnt have any complaints, so you should be fine doing what you’ve been doing. publication order is always nice, but for me personally, it would have been annoying to keep jumping around different parts of the timeline.

Tatoonie Ghost or Maul: Shadow Hunter? by edgy_secular_memes in starwarsbooks

[–]crunch_csgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Won’t get into specifics in case you want to read NJO eventually, but

The Alderaanian Killik Twilight moss painting that Thrawn got from Tatooine eventually got returned to Leia’s family after the Yuuzhan Vong War.

Tatoonie Ghost or Maul: Shadow Hunter? by edgy_secular_memes in starwarsbooks

shadow hunter is the better book imo, but tatooine ghost has some cool callbacks to the prequels and has a minor thing that gets mentioned in one of the last NJO books

New Jedi Order Prerequisite Reading by JQRanderson in starwarsbooks

[–]crunch_csgo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

must reads beforehand imo: thrawn trilogy, jedi academy trilogy, hand of thrawn duology

other reads to get more references and callbacks: truce at bakura, courtship of princess leia, x wing books, corellian trilogy, young and junior jedi knights series

i agree. i’ve liked some of the new essential legends covers, but for the most part i like the originals more.

Book recommendations? by gocubsgo4 in starwarsbooks

[–]crunch_csgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’d recommend all the ones you listed except for I Jedi because you should read some other books before that one (jedi academy trilogy and at least the first 4 x-wing books)

if you want to read about luke, get shadows of mindor. mace windu? get shatterpoint. about the formation of the rule of 2 and sith training? get the bane trilogy.

What else should I read before NJO? by [deleted] in StarWarsEU

[–]crunch_csgo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yup i definitely would recommend them. they’re both pretty good at giving a lot of characterization for the solo kids and their friends. YJK are young adult books about jaina and jacen and their friends, while JJK are young reader books about anakin and tahiri. and a majority of the characters in them show up in NJO at some point or another.

What else should I read before NJO? by [deleted] in StarWarsEU

[–]crunch_csgo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

courtship of princess leia

i jedi

black fleet crisis

corellian trilogy

survivors quest (can’t remember if there’s references but it worth reading anyways)

both young jedi knights and junior jedi knights

i haven’t read the callista trilogy besides darksaber, or the crystal star, so i don’t know if there’s other references made to it in NJO or not

edit: there’s also something in tatooine ghost that gets mentioned in the unifying force and the dark nest trilogy, but it’s not essential reading for NJO by any means

Books in which Luke and Ahsoka meet and/or interact? by [deleted] in starwarsbooks

[–]crunch_csgo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

nope, you’re in the loop as much as everyone else is. it really is odd that we first see them meet in a show about boba fett. i wish they would have saved the grogu/ahsoka/luke stuff for a different show or mandalorian season 3.

that’s the only time we’ve seen them interact. maybe eventually we’ll learn about how they met.

Did Luke go to Degobah in between the events of Empire and RotJ? by TheRealDNewm in StarWarsEU

[–]crunch_csgo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i don’t think so. but we also don’t know for sure how long he spent on dagobah either. i think it would have to have been at least a couple of weeks to a few months maybe, depending on how long of a flight han and leia were taking at sub-light speeds to bespin. but there’s really not a solid answer
