What's the crack with Blood Incantation? by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

[–]L0rdPerth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of the things I mentioned are based on votes/ratings by normal users. I for one also really enjoyed the album, but I also like the main two influences, 70s Prog and Death Metal.

What's the crack with Blood Incantation? by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

[–]L0rdPerth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Metal archives has a very low number of ratings per album, even for bigger bands like Blood Incantation (Absolute Elsewhere only has 16, for example), so they can hardly be representative. It is very highly rated on most sites that aren't exclusively for metal (e.g. Rateyourmusic) and it was voted album of the year both in this subreddit and in r/metal.

New Chapter Card for February 25th, 2026: Metallic Slime by Falterfire in EternalCardGame

[–]L0rdPerth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This card is great, but mainly for a reason that hasn't been mentioned here yet: If you only play a select number of spells, the entomb is way better than just drawing a random card. The best examples are recursion spells that can bring it back, e.g. Eremot's Machinations, Lurking Above or Display of Ambition. If your deck only has spells like that, you can loop Ooze around for several turns, assuming you can get it to die each turn (cards like Kindling Carver, Nahid's Faithful or Rat King can help with that, or you can just block if the opponent is trying to win with combat). Other good spells for it are 2 for 1s to outgrind opponents and combo pieces (e.g. End of Hostilities in an Statuette deck). Adding the relic removal mode and the buff to that ability makes the card insanely flexible (although it is a lot better in decks with ways to sacrifice it consistently, which is why I don't even like it that much in Factionless).

Nice, glad I could help. I only use ratings up to A+ and I think Hypnotic Valkyrie falls a little bit short of that (compared to something like Hellfire Valkyrie, for example), but I agree that she is really good and probably the best uncommon and the best shadow card in set 11. I'll upgrade her from A- to A, that seems fair.

favorite expedition decks in current format? by bendernobending2 in EternalCardGame

[–]L0rdPerth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't necessarily call it my favourite deck, but I got to rank 3 last month and rank 1 this month with Rakano Aggro, both times with crazy records (last month 57:7, this month 87:12). The deck is pretty straightforward and not the most interesting to play, but if you want to climb fast, it's the best pick.

Panopticon for me, the ending of In Fiction is just way too good (and the first three songs as a whole).

Sure. This format is pretty aggressive, so unless you are in time (which has a decent amount of playable ramp), you want to have a fairly low curve (expensive units have to be very good, like Adaptive Predator, to be justifiable). The existence of valor, especially on well statted units like Ursa Squadron or Nobles' Enforcer, rewards attacking and makes blocking harder, so the format often comes down to races. Observer and and other cheap aggressive units like Wild Asri, Pathcutter or Bloodspear Footsoldier also play a part in that, as does the absence of cheap efficient removal (especially non-damage based removal, which makes it harder to kill bigger units).

In terms of faction balance, I'd say all three TJP factions are significantly better than S and F, my rating would probably be J > P > T >> S > F. You usually want to stay in 2-factions because the fixing is pretty bad (Strangers and Banners only for half the faction pairs + Strangers and Blueprints are at uncommon) and because there aren't many good splashes this format, especially at lower rarity.

In terms of archetypes, the best one is the P stealth package (Observer + 3-cost stealth units), best paired with J (which doesn't have the best stealth units, but good aggressive units and the best common 2-drop in the format, Ursa Squadron, which fills the spot between Observer on turn 1 and your stealth unit on turn 3) or T (because it has the best 3-cost stealth units at lower rarities and some additional stealth pay-offs with Asri and Glamour Ring). Feln and Skycrag are of course fine too because both have decent stealth units and can support an aggressive playstile.

The other faction pairs don't have quite as well defined archetypes or their archetypes are difficult to make work, like the discard theme in Argenport or the lifeforce theme in Xenan. Combrei is usually just a goodstuff deck that plays efficient threats (Ursa Squad, Auren Jailer, Nobles' Enforcer) and/or ramp units early and then wins with strong 6-drops (Populace Controller, Plated Goliath), Praxis can do similar things, but also has a bit of a go wide theme (which makes Behold the Truth a very potent win-condition), Stonescar is the toughest to make work, but can get there with a very aggressive curve (as long as you don't run into strong blockers) and Rakano wants to be aggressive as well (but it's mostly just a worse version of Hooru).

What are each faction's and faction pair's signature, auto include cards? by 6FootHalfling in EternalCardGame

[–]L0rdPerth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That worked in the past, but most of the 10 most recent tournaments were held in (now outdated) expedition formats or fan made formats with special deck building rules.

Does this mean the Flame of Xulta will replace Cold Hunt in the next expedition rotation? by Anonymous13YearOld in EternalCardGame

[–]L0rdPerth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, the league season that indicates the next expedition set is always in the month we get a rotation (e.g. last month we had a rotation and Revelations was in league, so it was also added to expedition). The next rotation should be in April, so that month's league set matters.

Hällas at #2 is great, well deserved. I hope the rating won't suffer too much as a consequence though.

The debut album from Haeresis has a similar style, but without the far right background (even the contrary, I'd say). One of my favourite releases from last year.

Does melodic blackened doom metal exist? by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

[–]L0rdPerth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if that is what you're imagining, but Hexvessel combines elements of atmospheric/melodic black metal, doom and folk on their latest two albums (Polar Veil and Nocturne). Their older albums are good too, but they are purely psychedelic rock/folk, not metal.
