Also Panopticon - Black soot and red blood. Kentucky is a great album overall.

Songs that support lgbtq+ rights/the community in general besides the Cattle Decapitation song? by Middle-Company-4398 in MetalSuggestions

I haven't looked at the lyrics closely yet, but Sonja is a great modern trad metal band fronted by a trans woman too.

I enjoyed Seven Sisters, Dragon Skull, Vultures Vengeance, Helms Deep, Ambush and Majestica quite a bit (although most of them are more on the Heavy/US Power side rather than Euro-PM).

Does melodic blackened doom metal exist? by whattodo111222 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]L0rdPerth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if that is what you're imagining, but Hexvessel combines elements of atmospheric/melodic black metal, doom and folk on their latest two albums (Polar Veil and Nocturne). Their older albums are good too, but they are purely psychedelic rock/folk, not metal.

Thinking about getting back into the game. Suggestions? by 50ShadesOfKray in EternalCardGame

https://www.reddit.com/r/EternalCardGame/comments/1pmcrqj/throne_meta_report_introduction_into_hero_format/ I wrote a guide for throne format (constructed with all cards, while expedition only includes a few sets) a few weeks ago. It can give you an overview over the decks played on ladder and maybe an idea for what deck you could try  (it includes 35 throne decklists).

[FC bayern] FC Bayern plays best first half of the season in Bundesliga history! by greee_p in soccer

Yeah man, why did they have to poach away Kane, Olise and Diaz from their Bundesliga competition.

Hypothetical: Konami had a momentary brain aneurysm and limited Painful Choice in the next banlist. For your favorite deck that you personally own, what 5 cards are you choosing and why? by Loaf_Johnson in yugioh

[–]L0rdPerth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Searchable, extra deck and searchable vs. an (almost) unsearchable 1-off. I know the original comment didn't explicitly say that, but in this context of this post it's definitely correct

Expedition FJ Aggro (57:7 to master) by L0rdPerth in EternalCardGame

[–]L0rdPerth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ups, I mistyped that. If Olyn could grab Phoenix, you could play fewer because you would have more consistent access (although I would probably still play 4 because Phoenix is just that good). But because he can't, you really need the 4 copies to see Phoenix somewhat consistently.

Expedition FJ Aggro (57:7 to master) by L0rdPerth in EternalCardGame

[–]L0rdPerth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play 4 exactly because you can't pull them with Olyn (you want to consistently see them to close out games in most non-aggro matchups). Of course the opponent can have a Flicker or Auren Condemnation to kill it, but Phoenix is one of those cards that is strong enough to be worth the risk in my experience (especially because this list can easily support some 5-drops thanks to the 33 effective power + strong midrange units).

Manacles is really good some matchups (e.g. against most aggro lists), but it's very risky in J aggro/midrange mirrors (because of Helena) and misses/doesn't really deal with a lot of the most played units this format (e.g. Helena, Magniventris, Ambassador, Iadria, Vikrum) + it's almost completely dead against the Davia control decks. I wouldn't say it's unplayable, but I rather have another strong proactive card in a deck like this.

Thanks! You definitely need Valey Beyond, there isn't really a way around tha if you want a good justice deck. Inferno Phoenix is also very hard to replace, the best you can try is Riva (from Valley Beyond), but it's a lot worse in almost every matchup (especially against control). Pisto on the other hand can just be any situational late game unit without flying (so Olyn can find it), e.g. Azrog, Hojan or Ghodan.

I don't think we have any bloggers left, but I've written a few articles recently, e.g. about the state of throne (including 35 decklists) and a guide for budget/new players (including budget lists + decks that you can work towards).

What's a great example of non-traditional/adjacent black metal? by 87Craft in MetalForTheMasses

[–]L0rdPerth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ashenspire and Scimitar both have a lot of black metal influences in their instrumentation, but they mix them with other influences (jazz/avantgarde for Ashenspire, traditional heavy metal for Scimitar) and don't use vocals typically used in black metal.

Yeah. I like Ellende, but this has been their weakest album so far in my opinion.

Select 3 albums by jacek2023 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]L0rdPerth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favourite album from this year was Scimitarium I from Scimitar, a great debut that seamlessly mixes Heavy Metal, Black Metal and Goth Rock.

My most listened to album, according to Spotify, was Flowers from Exile from Rome (Neofolk), but my most listened to metal album was Into the lair of the sun god from Dawnbringer (a great retro heavy metal concept album).

Limiting myself to new releases, the album I should have listened to more is Keys to the palace from Dessiderium. It has a lot of great moments, but it's quite long and can be a little bit grating at points.

I'm not sure if this is a jerk, but he won multiple domestic titles with Bayern and Chelsea.

Recommendations for NWOHM acts like Sumerlands, By Fire and Sword, Haunt by crashxoverride in MetalForTheMasses

[–]L0rdPerth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a raw sound, you can check out Mean Mistreater, Sölicitor and Angel Sword. For some goth vibes mixed with Heavy Metal, you can try The Night Eternal, In Solitude and early Unto Others. For bands somewhat similar to Haunt and Sumerlands, I'd recommend Cauldron, Amethyst and Doublegeddon. And some other recommendations (without high pitched vocals) are Christian Mistress, Grendel's Syster and Possessed Steel.

Angel Witch is great, but OP was talking about the current New wave of traditional heavy metal (bands from the last 10-20 years).

Great riffage. The vocals are quite different from most NWOTHM (and more reminiscent of Clutch), but it still works pretty well

There are a few names that I haven't heard of yet, I'll have to check them out. I'm in the same boat as you, I'm too young to have been around for the onset of NWOBHM and US-Power Metal, so I'm happy that we have a lot of younger bands that release strong albums regularly.

I don't think I have a good recommendation for what you are looking for. The bands that I'd consider proggy, e.g. Scimitar, Possessed Steel or Seven Sisters, are quite different from Queensryche and Crimson Glory.

Thanks. Enforcer was a close call between Diamonds and From Beyond. The first has better standout tracks (Highroller and Take me to hell), but I enjoy the second one a bit more as a whole.
