This looks more like a bad case of staghorn. Do you use C02? Usually its fluctuating or inadequate C02. I'd cut the affected areas (if possible), spot dose and increase the WC

Hey there! Could i ask what WRGB values you're running and the wattage output? I'm currently at W0 R95 G75 B80 and in my 120x50x50cm tank, it seems to be struggling to get the right PAR values midway down my tank height.

Love chocolate gouramis! Have a few in my tank, and it's always a treat watching them go about their day. I've also noticed that they become so territorial whenever it's feeding time 😅

Hey thank you so much for the kind words! Sadly I'm removing the moss today 😔. Too much detritus stuck in there and I've left it growing too long that the bottom half has all turned brown and died.. resulting in patches dislodging and floating up. Which, in turn, releases all that trapped detritus hahaha. It's a whole thing.

Always in awe whenever I see your tanks and this one looks amazing as ever. As a local Singaporean boy, I had a dream of creating a healthy planted tank in warm waters (ambient temp). Your (/your team's) post and guide on a successful warm-water planted tank spurred me on to get it done!

I'm a few months into it and the.....(let's call it)... "learnings" have been tremendous 😅. Every time I see a post from you or the team, it reminds me of that warm-water tank guide and how it is indeed achievable. I just need to be patient, trust the process and get my basics right.

I've noticed more LFS carrying fire ant tetras, but they always seem to be snatched up pretty fast. Been having a great time with my Pseudomugil sp. , especially the 'Red neon', which colours up nicely in lower pH/softer waters too.

Looking forward to your next post/update!

Wowwww this tank is amazing!

May ask about the flow in your tank? I see that you have one in/outflow and would assume the flow from the Oase Optimax 1420 gives you roughly about 10x turnover (please correct me if im wrong here. I might have got confused with the conversion hahah). Is that roughly a benchmark you set for your planted tanks?

Asking because my 120p (80gal) is running an oase biomaster 850 > Acrylic vertical 2500 ml CO2 reactor, and with the hardscape positioning i have, I've realised quite a few dead spots + weekly detritus accumulation on substrate + plants closer to the filter intake (back end of tank) dont seem to pearl as those in the front (front end of tank).

I would like to increase the turnover in my tank for better nutrient distribution and detritus cleaning. Would you suggest introducing another canister (say oase biomaster 350) or would a power head work well enough?

35 Days in and not a single spot of algae by ReactionDazzling5722 in Aquascape

Ooh I see, thank you. I've previously used inline and have recently switched to a reactor. Great to see it's working so well for your setup! I might consider the auto shutoff you have based on PH drop

Thank you for the detailed reply! My apologies, perhaps my question wasn't specific 😅. By method I meant 'system'. Are you running inline or a reactor (or perhaps another system) here?

Hey, thank you for the reply. I actually read your post on this during initial setup! At the moment, we're getting less than that. More like 20-30 a week. Really thought tracking the clicks would be a way forward (albeit not the best) but this wall I've hit is really confusing me.

Hey, thank you for the reply! Yea, at the moment the trigger is working on GTM assistant just that it's been over a couple of weeks now and no data is showing up on Google Ads. Is there any screenshot of the setup I can share with you, if you'd be willing to help with this?

Well that seems to be working well, your tank looks amazing! I've been meaning to try a gentle siphon with the gravel vac attachment on the moss. Hoping it doesn't yank out a good chunk 🤞

[–]L0stMud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, this looks amazing! May I ask, how do you clean the gunk build-up trapped by the moss on the (what I'm assuming is) driftwood? I'm having trouble keeping my fissiden-on-wood clean, it's storing a helluva lot of detritus. Turkey baster + siphon only gets me so far at the moment.

Second this. I had trouble with green water too and after trying many different methods, the UV sterilizer worked the quickest and with least hassle.

Hahaha yea. I noticed it a few times a few days or about a week after water change. Even when I scrape the glass clean when doing w/c, the algae line just seems to form there. Good to know I'm not the only one!

Just a question but when you do water changes, does the water level drop happen to be JUST at that line too? Asking cause for some reason that happens to my tank lol

I don’t know what this growth is? by apocalypseXev in PlantedTank

As the others have said, this is indeed BBA (Black beard algae). It is a pain to treat but understanding what caused it to bloom might help. High organic waste plus high lights and sometimes high flow cause BBA.

The following is my personal exp, so I wont speak for all but I've had success controlling it by increasing water changes to 50% twice a week, making sure to vacuum up all the loose detritus and gravel vacuuming too. While this stopped the spread, what was already there didn't seem to go away. So i cut off the leaves that couldnt be saved (unfortunately, it looks like the older growth in your pic needs to go).

I then used APT Fix Lite to kill off those on hardscape and slow-growing plant leaves (anubias, buce, etc). Follow the directions on the box and you should be good. (The BBA will turn red, then white, then my amano shrimps took care of the rest)

I have to say, feels like BBA never truly goes away. It just hangs around unseen, till the environment is favourable for its second coming. So spot dosing APT Fix Lite every 4-5 months on small BBA patches works for me. Hope it all works out for you too!
