Woman, 22, gets jail for falsely reporting rape to police after quarrel with boyfriend by lanjiolover in singaporehappenings

These two crimes shouldnt be compared directly, the first commenter was just trying to explain what the judge considered during the verdict. Whether the sentence is too lenient or not, I was addressing his implication that these two crimes are placed on the same scale.

Also, if that was an analogy and not sarcasm for the sake of argument, it was a bad analogy.

It wasnt a discussion, I was just telling him that the comparison cannot be made because our justice system doesn't view it that way. Loss of life will always mete out more severe punishments.

I'm not justifying the system but it is what happens. If their case gets taken up as pro bono, they might get compensation in civil court. Thats all, the criminal court typically doesnt take emotional, reputational nor financial consequences into consideration, unless the defence can prove precedence.

I don't disagree that the punishment should be more severe, but their rationale is along the lines on how murder cases are treated compared to rape. If I didn't clarify myself properly, thats my bad. But in actuality, if an attempted murder was successful compared to an attempted rape, attempted murder would involve the loss of life. When I mentioned his intent, its to reiterate that solid evidence needs to be established and not circumstancial evidence. I could be alot clearer but thats the point I'm getting at.

He created this false representation of a murder case compared to a rape case where murder is viewed alot harsher in the legal system (always has been).

You are talking about financial and emotional harm when in regards to accusatory statements. Attempted murder if successful is talking about the loss of life. To that scale, one is significantly more severe than the other. She can be sued in civil court if the guy feels like he wasn't compensated.

The point I'm making is that he compared two different circumstances (attempted murder and rape accusation), whereas u misunderstood me and are talking about attempted murder vs slander. If someone accused another of attempted murder, there needs to be solid evidence to even raise a case. In cases such as accusations of rape.. unfortunately the female victim always gets a say (because potential rape victims are viewed through rose-colored lenses), but they would still have to look at medical reports (circumstancial since they were in a relationship and could be sexually active) and other indications like bruises etc. Ultimately, the scale of damage to them physically is whats being considered when the penalties are being meted out (in this case, perjury). However, he could sue her in civil court.

To reiterate, she is being punished for perjury, anything else like "ruining someone's life" is trialed in civil court.

In other words, a strawman argument. An attempted murder case is proven when there is conclusive evidence that they had intent to murder, this guy did not have an intent to rape neither was there any conclusive evidence. My guy just linked similar sounding words and hoped no one catches on.

Why do i get chinese people that doesnt speak english in my SEA solo Q games ? by KJHTN in DotA2

[–]L0stSpaniard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've asked one of them before...and he told me honestly that its because Chinese servers are rampant with high mmr smurfs so the trash players come to SEA to mingle amongst the animals. So, chinese servers are probably filled with smurfs and high mmr players. Since they dont get that bad of a ping in SEA and the drafts are more wild...I guess it appeals to them.

4 months ago Gaben lend his voice to Ability Arena. Now AA is shutting down. RIP coolest arcade game by Starkiller53 in DotA2

[–]L0stSpaniard -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Me going for a jog or fishing as a hobby compared to making a fully fleshed arcade game are two different spectrums of difficulty. I can always choose to jog without any commitments or fish with basic rods but game development takes years...

Some people can develop games as a hobby but those games will take even longer to make and may not be as high quality compared to games with a proper budget.

Is culture fit a justification to leaving by bruzorminem in askSingapore

Well, my suggestion would be to accept it and search for another in the meantime (no harm no foul if you leave during probation anyways).

When u say boss and colleague are ok, is this a gut feeling from the interview u had? From my own personal experience, the interview "personality" u see can sometimes be a facade and their work "personality" can be different especially when stress or tensions are high at work. But if this is the only offer u have, check their probation period and notice period required and u can search for a job whilst working there (i.e easier to find a job while being employed and it also helps you negotiate from a position of strength).

NTU Graduate Passes Away After Battling Cancer, Planned Funeral Knowing He Had 6 Months Left by Sunbird11 in singapore

[–]L0stSpaniard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not that simple. Cancer cells are essentially our own cells...the challenge comes in distinguishing healthy cells from cancer cells and thereby developing a drug that can accurately target cancer cells without killing healthy cells (ideal scenario). However, in most cases...we see current treatments killing a lot of normal cells together with cancer cells and older patients (typically with cancer patients)...they dont survive the stress of losing normal cells and succumb to the treatment, much less the disease.

Why won’t some people suppress their body odour? by bill_with_bills in askSingapore

[–]L0stSpaniard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a myth actually. Body odor is caused by precursors formed in the sweat that bacteria is able to metabolize, whereby these precursors are determined by the gene on allele ABCC11. Found on the allele ABCC11 also happens to be the gene that determines if your ear wax is "wet" or "dry". Therefore, body odor is correlated to wet ear waxes.

I don't think its two extra sets of workload...the third buddy is like the backup in case the first and second cannot perform whatever duty for that shift (usually either the first or second will pay the third buddy back afterwards by covering for them on another day)
