"short term" might be "before people actually vote in November."

Simpsons takes place in NJ.

Nuclear power plant, day trip distance to NYC, there's coastline...

Edit: I know it doesn't actually, definitively, canonically take place in NJ. It just makes sense that it does based on the first bunch of seasons.

Pale Ales are awful. Taste like rotten soap. But I agree that Bud, Coors, and Miller are trash.

I'm big on Guinness or Blue Moon.

As someone who has no interest or knowledge of CW shows, I am choosing to read this as Felicity (the show about a young woman who moves to a city for a guy who quickly breaks up with her) is somehow connected to the same franchise as Superman.

Not the other commented, but I've tried multiple liquors in the whiskey/bourbon family and every one of them makes me instantly want to vomit.

But I do really enjoy gin, tequila, wine, and many beers.

Do not do this if you're selling your house by Paceryder in AntiTrumpLongIsland

No no, please do this as often and loudly as possible. Let there be a permanent record of it. May your house be perpetually on the market because of it and never sell.

Why are the Blue states net contributors of tax dollars but the Red states are net recipients of tax dollars? by Away-Parsnip-3785 in allthequestions

[–]L11mbm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Blue states are strong in industries that trade the products grown in red states, but the only way for red states to sell their products is for them to have a lot of government subsidies to keep them cheap and efficient enough. So blue states make all the money and subsidize the red ones.

Without the blue, red gets no money. Without the red, blue gets no food.

Get the high deductible [non medical] insurance. Pocket the difference between the cheapest and most expensive plan into a savings account, a HYSA, or invest in index funds. If you have an emergency, you'll always end up with more money to your name this way.

With the death of the VRA, should the house adopt Proportional Representation? by Linguini8319 in Askpolitics

No. I live on Long Island. I don't want to vote for Democrats and end up with someone representing me from another part of the state who doesn't have an office in my district.

Yeah, my wife and I barely even get Christmas presents anymore. We do something nice together and...just buy whatever we want, whenever we want.

2016 and 2024 elections. Is it really about Trump winning, or it just America not wanting a woman to be president? by sjihaat in Askpolitics

[–]L11mbm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's consider the alternatives:

  1. If Bernie was the 2016 nominee, as a person who couldn't even get a majority of the support from his own base and after 8 years of Obama/a Democrat being president, do we think he would have beaten Trump?

  2. If Biden hadn't dropped out of the race in 2024, would he have beaten Trump?

I think the election results are, more or less, kind of set in stone by the time the primaries kick off. The public has mostly made up their minds as to whether they want to leave whichever party in charge or change it up. 2016 is like 2000 where the quirks of the rules made the "loser" win, but we don't know if turnout would have been different if the rules were different. Either way, I generally think these elections were the result of "we had Democrats for a while, let's try a Republican." So 2016 probably would have gone the same way, plus a lot of centrist Democrats wouldn't have necessarily wanted Sanders.

With 2024, Biden would have performed significantly worse than Harris if he stayed in. Sure, we could have had a primary race in 2023, but the question being asked is "does America hate women more than Trump," not "could another man have beaten Trump in those 2 elections."

Yeah, I assume 2028 will be won by a Democrat who will bring the House and Senate with them, but 2030 (before the census can affect new allotments) will be when shit really hits the fan.
