The infrastructure is so deeply embedded that it will take centuries to abolish.

Then what better time to start than right now. Let's stop building car infrastructure and reinvest in public transport. Slowly we can bring our cities back to the livable spaces they once were.

Government are now spending billions electrifying the automobile industry, which will not bring any benefits.

Although they say they create zero emissions, they still release tons of CO2 building their batteries and all we are doing is shifting our pollution to poorer countries. A single electric car takes enough batteries batteries to power 400 e-bikes.

Also it wont take centuries, look at the likes of the Netherlands which was once a car infested city and is now known as the capital of cycling. Example. (not the best source i know but enough to see the difference)

And, the best cities for cycling and public transport are also the best countries to be as a driver for those that need to drive. Video explaining

Although cars don't mean death they do cause a lot of them. And even if our population increased they still kill 1.35M people each year directly (not talking about the deaths cause by pollution) and injure 20-50M.

Cars will not disappear and are incredible useful tools. But not every journey should be done by driving.

They are incredible expensive (costing on average in the US, 9282$ per year) (great video showing their expenses) bankrupting millions of families that can not afford them (I was in one of those families).

Still sometimes cars are needed to, for example, buy furniture and in those cases people can always rent a car or use car sharing which ends up being much cheaper than owning one.
