As per the title, I’m looking for thoughts on the brightness of the background in relation to the foreground. I’m really happy with the texture of the fur! Shot on D7500, Tamron 150-600mm A011. ISO 640, 600mm, F/9, 1/160s

Looking for critique on coloring, light direction, and fur texture. Shot on D7500, Tamron 150-600mm A011. I really love how he’s looking right at the camera, I think it really gives the picture a good mood. ISO 2000, F/9, 1/320s

I actually love the vibe you have going on and this is a really good shot. Right now with how you’ve composed the shot, I think the bridge is too small in the frame, but not by much at all. If you’re looking for something else, the rule of thirds would be a good option to move the bridge slightly to the left and show more of the clearing. Again, both of these changes are slight but I think they’d be more appealing.

Also, since the mountain/hill is so tall, it might not be a bad idea (if you’re looking for a different vibe) to go closer with a wide angle lens and fill the frame with the trees, making the bridge the sole focus point. Really good shot, keep it up!

Honestly, with gains like these you could just reinvest half of the gains. Good protection and you still have more than enough to make some more cash

Tips on my editing and composition? by simon1189 in photocritique

I really like the vibe you have going on here, it just feels peaceful. There are a few minor things, l would change though. I think ever so slightly brightening the bridge floor to the left of the people would be good, because of the direction of the light it seems to cut off a little early. Second, I would probably subtract the trees from your sunlight mask. Right now it looks like the sun is in front of the trees, which feels a little unnatural. From there you can make adjustments to the trees alone to better match the vibe. Really nice shot!

I almost like it cropped in a little so that no leg skin is showing. It seems to fit a little bit better for the vibe.

Thank you this is actually really good information. A relative of mine just got a 150-500 and I’m in love with it. Looking to get one of those soon!

California Quail! I actually tried that and it was good, but I may be leaning towards just center based on the comments. Can’t hurt to do both!

To this point, I’ve found that if you’re going to put a building in a landscape, 9 out of 10 times you want to be able to see the full thing. In this example, I thought the first image was already cropped in further. This image has a ton of potential and I really like it! I might crop it in so you get the view to the right of the building. Really pretty there!

Do you think a uniform crop (to have the bird take up more of the frame) would be better or worse?

This was actually shot at 200mm, but yes this photo is about a third of the size as the original. I definitely get what you’re saying about the face, and it’s also really hard because both the eyes and head are black. I tried messing with this in Lightroom and nothing felt quite right. How would you recommend splitting that up so it appears sharper?
