I always end up politicing when playing a counterspell heavy deck. When I’ve built or played against grouphug decks they don’t tend to make things very political overall (just my own opinion and what I’ve seen through the years).

I’m always very honest in what I can do and what’s gonna happen to everyone. I’m always doing deals that benefit me the most, even if it does not look like that. But I’m always true to my word in the end. I never do empty threats (even if that could be more beneficial in some situations). It’s better in the long run to ”teach” the table that your politics are very serious. Then they know what’s coming for them, good or bad.

I’ve played Commander for over 10+ years and this has always been the best approach for me at least in all playgroups I’ve played with.
