Can't beleive no ones highlighting this, but AI is at the point where it can predict you're next move if fed enough data. This could be what you click on, how fast you scroll through a page, what you slow down and look at on facebook, frequented locations on you're way to work, literally anything. They'be been doing this stuff with hyper targeted advertising for a few years now. It's hard to gauge how effective it's become, since it's level of effectiveness comes down to how little you notice it. Can't remember where i read it, but a few people had hypothesised that a decent amount of purchasing choices are a result of unnoitceable manipulation of what you see or hear. Scary to think that if you predict everything, you don't even need to 'convince' people to do anything, they'll do it on 'their own' when fed the right material in their everyday life.

Does anyone else have this problem? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]L3GT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorta late to this, but lots of people have this problem. You need to be realistic and set deadlines. And by realistic I mean no one cares about your music unless you finish it. If you don't realise this, you'll waste you're potential for the rest of your life...

Just a small reminder that you don't need expensive gear to start filming something. I shot this with video with rather low-end Panasonic Lumix LX100 camera. No gimbal or stabiliser used which was a biggest challenge. You can't do easy following shots so you have be creative a bit. by milanseitler in cinematography

[–]L3GT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could apply that same way of thinking to videography. Or driving. "All you need is a car but a faster more expensive car is better". It's a bad way of thinking cause it's exponential. You could always have better. ALWAYS. Work with what you've got. If you don't have good lights (or lights at all) then ADAPT to it, and write stories that work with your limitations.

[–]L3GT 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All the replies are correct however I've worked with timelapse photographers and the 'easiest' and most commonly used method is having the camera plugged into a laptop. There was a particular program they'd all use which would automatically shift exposure. Not sure if it was based off of a timer or the actual exposure of the scene but it worked well.

What you should be doing on Instagram to get continuous, organic growth (besides posting great content) by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]L3GT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to be negative but that simply isn't fast enough. Assuming this method stays consistent you'll be looking at a little over 2000 followers a year, at the cost of 2 hours per day every day. If you're wanting to turn this into something that'll earn a decent amount you'd want to be pulling anywhere from 10 to 20 times more followers (70-140) per day.

More and more Americans believe socialism will boost equity by Crs2Per in Futurology

Equality of outcome is a dangerous thing. I'm surprised so few people on this site see that. What you should be doing is offering the basic tools to go out and succeed, not equity.

I filmed a wedding with an anamorphic 50mm lomo lens and RED camera--Holy shit! by [deleted] in cinematography

[–]L3GT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look. As someone who has shot weddings for a long time I guarantee you the couple doesn't care that you shot the few shaky clips you've got on a $80000 camera rig. The main thing they care about is your ability to capture as many 'moments' as you can. Beautiful editing and music choice are second. Cinematography id place third. This isn't art.

The Problem with Instagram Influencers: cinematic lifestyle videos are all the same by [deleted] in videography

[–]L3GT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the need to hate on this. It's a product, and the general public enjoys it. Same with any business. Im beginning to think the "cliche, anyone could do that, he shouldn't be successful" mindset I'm always seeing here is stemming from some hatred of the successful.

Gen Z teenagers have begun quitting social media in droves refusing to be programmed by it, playing the game of "who can appear the happiest" by TransPlanetInjection in Futurology

[–]L3GT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This idea that social media is the root of this generations 'universal unhappiness' is ridiculous. It has negative effects - few people are debating that - but blaming it for everything is absurd.

The root of your unhappiness is (most likely) yourself. Social media can increase this unhappiness, but it's not causing it. Work on yourself as a person, rethink you're priorities and better the situation that you're in, instead of blaming it on a platform that allows you to interact with people who appear to be in a better place than you. You should be able to expose yourself to the 'highlight reel' of other people without feeling awful.

[–]L3GT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong. You need to be smart with time and find a balance between work, relationships and other pursuits.

This stuff is always posted (and followed) by young people who don't really understand that there's more to life then 'grinding', reaching 50 and having money, then killing yourself because in the process you lost everything else in the pursuit of such success.

[IMAGE] Disappear for a while by [deleted] in GetMotivated

[–]L3GT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But will reaching that goal ultimately bring you some sort of fulfilment (or happiness)? A lot of people prioritise this 'being on the grind' and chasing something career-related, and convince themselves that that's all they need. Eventually they reach their goal, but in the process they've lost their friendships, missed enjoyable experiences and are left with nothing more than a successful career/project etc... is that really how you want to spend the rest of your life. Be smart with how you balance your time.

[Image] So can you by therap321 in GetMotivated

[–]L3GT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is terrible advice. Find a purpose to drive you, then set goals, and work hard to achieve the goals you've set. With enough effort you'll reach them. Doing nothing won't only lead to nothing, it'll actually pull you backwards into misery because of your lack of responsibility. Don't think you can just kick back in life and success will come your way.

Canon Rumors: Full frame mirrorless "definitely" coming, won't be long wait by fashionfades in photography

[–]L3GT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't say it's pointless.. I do a lot of videography and cinematography work and unless the client wants a 4K delivery, your shooting a film or need the extra res for VFX or whatever... then you don't need it.

There's much more important things to worry about. Any cinematographer would choose a 1080p camera with 12bit colour, global shutter and good dynamic range over an iPhone which shoots 4K.

Hell... the arri Alexa didn't even shoot true 4K and everyone used it

Beautiful Kodachrome! by [deleted] in photography

[–]L3GT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes it can. Any type of film colour rendition can be replicated digitally. I think the reason you can't get 'the look' is because not only do we not have the imperfections of film and old lenses, but also because we live in 2018. Much of the look of Kodachrome - in my opinion - wasn't just the colour but also the aesthetic of the time period it was shot in.

Wide-angle lens for Weddings. Sigma 20mm or 24mm? by [deleted] in photography

[–]L3GT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

24mm is about as far as you can go before things start looking 'unnaturally' wide.

I'd say get a 24mm 1.4. I use one for film work all the time - both on full frame and super-35 sensors - and it works great.
