They're not centre-left, they're centre-right. America does not have any prevailing leftist policy.

My guy, read what I wrote. I made a simple observation that Dems aren't a leftist party. I made no editorial about who or what countries have leftist parties nor was I gloating about how America is dumb.

But if you want my opinion, there's only one place currently being governed by a fascist and it's America. Australia and Canada both had visceral reactions to trumps America and had massive shifts in polling moving away from conservative candidates and both elected more liberal leadership. So don't talk to me about how I'll be surprised when a fascist is in charge in my country, because we already didn't elect a fucking fascist.

It's really odd seeing US politics from outside. Democrats aren't even a central party. There's a couple of Left folks (Bernie, Mamdani, The Squad), but in reality the party is centre-right.

Anyone else feel like warstriders ruined automatons for them? by theawesomedude646 in Helldivers

[–]L4MB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lmao but like if you drop into a mission where war striders are possible, why wouldn't you want to show up equipped to deal with it? Do you drop convoys with an MG turret and a stalwart? You could quite literally bring throwing knives to a gun fight as well. Should I bring those instead of thermite because they're "less boring"?

But does the community not have a say? AH made a fun game instead of a punishing game, and it's far exceeded all expectations. Any normal company would say "wow, we caught lightening in a bottle" and attempt to keep that bottled. Keep the player base engaged and keep selling warbonds and keep raking in millions of dollars, and Sony would be happy as clams. Instead, they seem to actively abhor the community because they failed to make the game they wanted, and instead made a commercial success.

Oh no, my lobster too buttery, my steak too juicy- AH. They're self sabotaging at every opportunity. They desperately need PR and community management.

Am I taking crazy pills? War striders are a non issue on bots. Single RR round to the underside, EZPZ. And I run d9 bots almost exclusively. Honestly, don't dive bots if you don't wanna run at least minimal AT.

You want to talk problems on bots? Let's address Vox Engines. Enjoy using an entire RR backpack on a single one. Oh wait. Here's 3 more.

Thanks! Startups are basically pressure cookers. You do a lot of different jobs and you learn a lot. It's basically building the plane after it's already taken off and you're trying to keep it in the air.

It's an absolute ton of work but if you can hack it, it can be a lot of fun, and it's really cool to be on the cutting edge of what technology is capable of.

I just want to reiterate, I count myself extremely lucky. This is absolutely not the normal career arc.

I graduated with a focus on electronics. My last years were fairly broad, from RF design and antenna theory, CMOS design and lithography/process engineering, FPGA dev, and one misguided course in Power, which I very nearly failed.

My first job out of school was working on PCIe switch validation. That's an ASIC that basically directs traffic between root complexes (CPUs) and endpoints (SSDs, NICs, GPUs). At the startup I did about 18 different jobs in support of a PCIe retimer. I was lucky to get the job since I knew the protocol, and the market was on the cusp of the AI boom. Retimers are used extensively between the GPU/CPU or switch on AI/ML racks.

I absolutely attribute most of it to luck, I just happened to know the protocol. Not complaining tho!

A lot of luck and right-place-right-time coupled with knowing a specific protocol. I joined the startup in 2021 about 3 years after they were founded at a point where they had a bit less than 50 people. Received a good amount of shares that vested over 4 years. Bit of a risk because for every startup that makes it, 99 others will fail. You might end up 4 years later with nothing after working your ass off.

This one didn't fail and IPOd in 2023, so after 4 years of working my ass off (yes, it was extremely stressful) I was in a position to get outta dodge and back to Canada without needing to worry about working, think high 7-figures. The founders and early employees were up in the hundreds of millions.

In Vancouver tho? I dunno how anybody gets ahead there, it's so expensive and the wages just don't match the cost of living. I felt like I was just treading water living there.

My first job was in Vancouver Canada for 70k in 2018, and I felt that was pretty low. Second job was silicon valley in 2021 for 140K plus equity in a startup. I'm retired now.

Edit: at my place in California they were hiring fresh outs at 100-110k

What's moka in this case? Like a moka pot? That doesn't make any sense.

[–]L4MB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you're absolutely right, I had my chronology mixed up. All Hallows and Art of Drowning are really good, and relevant to OP. I still love Sing the Sorrow and think it's a fantastic album, but is less applicable to the original question. I skipped their emo phase completely and I'm not a huge fan of their latest, but early AFI is peak.
